  1. The kids were in the mood for ice cream on a late Saturday night. Who can blame them, it's summer time!

Jason V. ordered grapefruit sorbet. As he described it, " super refreshing, it's like taking in air"!  I would agree too.

The other kid ordered peanut butter chocolate. She described it to be, "super rich, rich in life, where's the milk"?
I would agree. but the milk part- really unnecessary.

Lastly, I doubled up. Rice pudding and maple bourbon. Both caught me off guard. The rice in the rice pudding, guess what?? You can taste it! It's a just nice tease of rice. Perfectly balanced. Dynamic experience.

Now, the maple bourbon, I'm glad it was Saturday night. Each bite was a shot of bourbon. Not kidding. Whew! You can probably get a little buzz off this stuff. The kids loved it too and couldn't agree more on the robust flavor of bourbon. "Now now kids, maple bourbon is for me only"!

The establishment, quite bright and narrow open space with plenty of seats. None outside, though. In my opinion, outside sitting makes any experience more enjoyable.

Prices, yes it's a bit tad expensive. Can't afford, just don't go. Settle with box ice cream treats.

    Parking, street parking only.

Hours, excellent hours. Weekends are open till 1130pm. It works for late Daters who want dessert and clearly for kids who can't go to sleep without having ice cream.

  2. I gave Gelotti a try on Thursday night and found the experience to be pretty mehh.  The location is huge and they certainly have a lot of flavours but I just wasn't wowed.  First, the service was weird and so slow.  There was one girl at the front and two guys who kept appearing and disappearing and they all seemed slightly flustered.  The portion sizes also seemed off.  I got a large and the cup was barely full but I saw people get mediums that were overflowing.  The ice cream itself was decent but I encountered a number of ice chunks which always interrupts the creaminess with a tasteless crunch.  I tried the cookie monster, coffee oreo, and chocolate fudge crunch with the coffee oreo probably being my favorite of the three.  I don't think I'll be rushing back for their ice cream any time soon but maybe to try the gelato since there is a lack of gelato places in the area.

  3. I came here with my fiance since we saw an event on Facebook advertising a free crepe with any purchase.  I got a small ice cream with a scoop of pistachio and a scoop of mint cookies and creme and got a crepe with bananas, strawberries, and nutella. I don't know if because they had just opened and were working on their crepes still (probably why it was free) but I was very unimpressed by the crepe. It wasn't soft at all and was crunchy. I could barely cut it with my knife (albeit, it was plastic) but it just wasn't what a crepe is supposed to be: soft and malleable.

I would definitely come back for the ice cream.  I didn't try the gelato.

  4. I have always been a fan of Gelotti's. Going to the rinky dink Paterson location, and waiting on line is a childhood memory that will be forever ingrained in my mind. When I found out that Gelotti was making the leap into Montclair I was skeptical. However, after checking out the Montclair location I was so happy with how they promoted the Gelotti brand. The Montclair store is situated on Bloomfield avenue; the location is easy to get to. The store is relatively large with plenty of seats. The interior feels more like a cafe than an ice cream parlor with its brick facade, wood tables and exposed duct work.
The ice cream is, as always, delicious. You can't go wrong with any flavor. My favorite is their mint chocolate chip!
One new feature that the Montclair store has is gelato flights. Yup, it's exactly what it sounds like; 4-6 small servings of different gelatos. The gelato flights are brilliant, and awesome for a date night dessert. Some of the gelato samplings include: berry merlot, salted peanut, chocolate whiskey bacon, pistachio and hazelnut. By far it is some of the best gelato around!

So happy that Gelotti is in Montclair. You have to check it out!

  5. The ice cream selection is vast and probably four times the size of the gelato selection. The prices are a little outrageous: $4.35 for a small cup of ice cream; $4.67 for a small cup of gelato. That's pre-tax, so where/how they came up with $4.67 is beyond me.

While the prices are outrageous, it's no surprise, not only because this location is in Montclair, but also because of the size of their space in Montclair. This place must occupy 2,000 unnecessary square feet. There's so much empty space in the back, I can't imagine what they're paying.

Not that I'm complaining about having too much space, but it's clearly reflected in the cost of their product. At least the service is friendly and will give you samples if you ask.

  6. Was a huge fan of the gelotti in Caldwell and this new location did not disappoint. Went in with a few friends on opening night and got my favorite mint Oreo. All of their flavors are homemade, unique, and delicious. Big space. Lots of room for indoor seating. Will be back for sure!
