  1. General Poors Tavern is an interesting dive bar. It has a rather diverse crowd which changes based on the day and the time of day/ night you arrive.

For many friends of mine this is a staple watering hole.  It is great for those nights when you want to  head out and have an inexpensive drink (or many drinks) locally.  Typically when I pop in it's a Friday or Saturday night around nine or 10 PM.  They have a pool table near the back door with fairly regular players visiting the establishment.

There are many regulars here that I can recognize by face each and every time I am there.  Generally it is a pretty friendly crowd and not too rough.

General Poors Tavern earns a solid four-stars from me In the dive bar category.

  2. I have to tread carefully with this review b/c I frequent this place due to its proximity from my work (across the street).  The last thing I need is secret sauce in my burger/salad/beer (reference NL Van Wilder).

Anyhow, it is a decent bar/restaurant with good food and beer selection.  But the place could be so much better if they spent some $ and renovated it a little.  The bathroom would be the first place to start.

Poors does not have that charming Irish dive-bar feel, a la Harley's.  Nor is it as nice/upscale as Poitin Still.  Poors falls somewhere in between and therefore, lacks an identity.  But if you are in the area and need a solid place for beers/burgers/salad, Poors will do just fine.

  3. For a pub, this is a pretty great place. 3.5 stars.

I've only been to the restaurant (i.e., I have no clue what the social/ bar scene is like), and have always been completely happy with whatever I order.  Today, I got the cheesesteak sandwich. I was expecting thin sliced steak, cooked well, as usual, until they asked how I wanted my steak cooked. It came to me a perfect medium rare and was flavorful and delicious.

In the past, I've had their turkey or roast beef sandwiches/ wraps, fries and other bar food type things, and have never been disappointed. Always good service.

No delivery, no parking.  It's a bit expensive for a regular lunch joint if you work close to the courthouse, and prepare to run into lots of lawyers/ judges.

  4. Good pub food next to the Bergen county courthouse. Lawyers frequent often for lunch and happy hour. The bar is a little divey – cheap drinks and low key make it a chill hang out. I have gone for happy hour to enjoy the beverages (tho happy hour prices all of the time) and lunchtime strictly for food. The grilled chicken Sammy salad hits the spot. The shrimp is good and inexpensive as well. Nothing fancy, but nothing compromised in quality or service.
