Little bro and I went on sushi date at Genki. We got there right after their lunch specials which was kind of a bummer but the prices weren't that bad. Service was prompt, perhaps too eager like can I please FINISH my food before you take my plate away?! Uh BIG PET PEEVE!
I had a Sapporo, shared some seaweed salad, and ordered a few rolls for the both of us. Bonus points to the chefs for making me a roll that I like that wasn't on the menu (salmon and mango roll- seriously awesome), the tuna roll was okay but mostly rice which overpowered the tiny piece of tuna, yellowtail and jalepeno roll had a nice kick to it, and brother enjoyed his eel roll and finishing up the rest of the rolls.
All in all, I have a few favorite places in DC but have yet to find a sushi place at home in Staten that compare. Genki is decent and I would probably go again but not necessarily crave it.
Hmm, nothing special unfortunately because the prices were right. It is definitely not one of my top choices for Staten Island sushi. I started with the mango kani salad which was good but I've had better. In terms of rolls what I sampled was a sweetheart roll, spicy yellow tail, spicy tuna, chicken tempura and shrimp tempura. In my opinion the best one flavor wise was the spicy yellow tail but how they they make their rolls spicy is by adding a sauce that seems to be similar to a spicy mayo (typically I've eaten spicy rolls where the spicy ingredients were IN the roll). The sweetheart roll had lobster, which I knew before ordering it but I typically see it with only tuna, it was okay, but nothing great. The chicken tempura was dry, and the shrimp tempura and spicy tuna rolls were fine. The service was attentive and sweet and the atmosphere is nice but to me it's not enough to make up for the mediocre food experience. I'd try someplace different first.
Came back here on a weekend night. The service was still a little slow. My friend waited a very long time for her alcoholic beverage but the food was MUCHH better I enjoyed myself a lot. I even had the same dish (spicy tuna roll) and it was much better this time. We had a shrimp and dumpling dish for the app and it was very very good. We all enjoyed our food even with the service so-so.
Sushi's pretty good and you can't beat the prices. All of the other places on the south shore are just ridiculously overpriced. They're pretty quick with delivery too.
First time here and I actually ordered to pick up. There menu offers some pretty good choices of sushi and they even have a lunch special too which I like to see.
I had me the Boston Roll and it had a little too much mayo in it which makes it greasy, the Philadelphia roll which didn't have enough cream cheese and then the spicy crunch tuna roll which was too spicy for me but I know lots of others will enjoy it, I'm not much of a spicy eater type and don't ask me why I ordered it! Thanks to the bf he took care of that problem & also the Kani salad was pretty good too.
Prices are reasonably, the place is really also when I walked in, nice bright led color lights, huge fish tank and good amount of space and tables. Workers seem nice also. I would come back and try out more things and update my review.
