“The waiters took a bit long to bring us our checks but the amazing Shrimp tagliolini made up for it.”
“Most of the places in the area (a block and a half from Grand Central) has a lot of take out and cheap places, and Gente is much more sophisticated than the other things on that block.”
“There is a great prix-fixe menu for the $35 which is one of the better deals I've seen in the area.”

Convenient location in Midtown near Grand Central.
The interior is cozy and welcoming. The food was excellent! I tried the risotto with mushrooms and saffron upon recommendation and it was outstanding! They serve bread with the meal so between the very filling entree and the bread, you may not need anything else!! Fantastic! The lady beside me had a version of the risotto with shrimp that was huge and she said was very good as well.
I would have given 4 stars except the staff kept rushing me to order everything right away: drinks, food, appetizers, etc. They were not crowded midweek so it was probably habit and were very nice otherwise. They also forgot to bring my bruschetta appetizer which worked out fine because the entree was so good and large, but after all of the rushing I did feel like my order should be correct.
Pricing is typical midtown – too high but for good food. $50 for a glass of wine, bread/olive oil and my entree. Fairly standard.
Overall, great food and helpful staff. Try the Risotto!!!
Came here for dinner last night and loved it! The service was outstanding and the food was great, too! I had the chicken Marsala which was tender and the sauce was great. Dad had the lasagna, which was awesome.
Great noise level… Can actually have a conversation with the person next to you. Great place to meet up with friends, but wouldn't recommend for a date. Not so romantic, but perfect for dinner with dad!
Visit Gente last night for an early dinner before a night on the town. My friends and I had purchased a Groupon worth $160 of food and drink, so the deal couldn't be beat. Each of placed our respective orders, and the food came out very promptly and wound up being delicious. The spinach ravioli was great! Two of our group ordered dessert as well and we're very please with how they turned out.
My only drawback was how infrequently our waiter came to our table- the busboy stopped by to fill our water whenever we were empty, but we sat waiting for a check for a while and he never came back to see how our entrees were (typical behavior whenever I go anywhere with a Groupon, so not sure if this service is standard).
I bought a groupon deal to give this place a try stopped by during the week.
Once we arrived we were seated right away since it was after work the place was not crowed by the time we were done there was more people seating down.
The deal allowed for a certain dollar amount to be spent on food.
They star u off with some bread & olive oil good olive oil , always hard for me to put down bread & olive oil specially when it's good.
Drinks we tried the Pinot Grigio not bad always liked this wine.
Appetizers we stared with the Insalata Caprese
Tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil can't go wrong when we ordered we told our waiter that we would be sharing everything it was nice of them to divide the appetizers.
Good tomatoes & fresh mozzarella nice dish to begin with.
Main dishes we went with the Pizza con Verdure & the Pollo Piccata.
The Pizza was Mozzarella, pomodoro & sautéed veggies pretty good nice thin crust good amount of veggies on it.
The Chicken was sautéed with lemon, capers in a white wine sauce we got it with pasta , good chicken nice tasting sauce , good pasta cooked Al dente in a tomato sauce not bad.
As for the restaurant nice place , small with plenty of seating plus a bar area nice atmosphere can be pretty romantic once the lights are dimmed.
Service was good prices seemed reasonable even with out them deal, we enjoyed our meal.
Decided to give Gente a try as it was across the street from my office. I had called to make a reservation for lunch for four people, showed up and no one knew about the reservarion. Oh well, they found a table for us quick enough. Lunch was not so memorable, the restaurant is nice inside though and similar ambiance to other Italian restaurants. The pizza was small for what it cost and i wish i had ordered something else. Not a bad experience, but with the prices I expect more.
My friend and I came here for a Saturday night dinner. Restaurant was practically empty – maybe 3-4 other tables filled – so it was easy to get seated! Atmosphere is upscale yet cozy. I'd come here with colleagues or family for sure. I got the marsala chicken and she got the sea bass. Both were delicious. We also used the scoutmob deal, which got us $25 off – SCORE. We also got 2 really good cocktails for $10 each. Also loved the bread they serve! I'd return to try other entrees.
Can't comment on a lunch/dinner experience. Can comment on how they organize a cocktail hour. Our company hosted a meet-and-greet here not too long ago. The hor d'oeuvres and small plates selected were comical. My buddies and I could choose more elegant items walking down the frozen food section of our local supermarket in preparation for watching Sunday's games. C'mon guys — this is midtown Manhattan. Step it up a bit. No mozzarella sticks, please. If you want to attract new customers, that's not the way to do it. The only reason they get 3 stars is because they were very pleasant and attentive. And, the bartender had a bit of a heavy hand. Slainte for that mate! Sorry — Salute! is what I meant.
I came here to use a Groupon with a friend. We shared the Piatto di Antipasti. I got the Gamberi alla Griglia, while my friend got the Melanzane Parmigiana. Overall, food and service was good, but nothing too memorable.
