  1. The food here is mostly fried, but it is decent for what it is. If I want a cheap Cubano (5.50) I will come here. The pork and ham are fine, pickles are always good in general, and the cheese is that orange plastic stuff but I mean it is kind of still good in a guilty way.

Everything here is pretty much a heart attack waiting to happen and the service is chilly at best. I always feel like the waitstaff is surprised they have to actually wait on someone.

I'm just not that in to this junk food extreme, usually.

  2. George's is first and foremost a diner, so that means breakfast all day, fried plates and a long menu.

It's located in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood, so instead of the Greek specialities you might see elsewhere, there's a page of Mexican dishes. These are sold in platters, rather than the typical a la carte options, so there's no chance of getting away with a gut-busting amount of food.

I went with the chicken flautas, which arrived four to the order as opposed to the three pictures on the menu. They were only lightly fried and filled with nice chunks of chicken. There was none of the frankenfood I found a couple months a far less worthy (and not to be named) placed elsewhere in the area. I'm afraid the beans were a bit soft and both the yellow rice and the beans were lacking much flavor.

The dining room was half-full around noon on a Saturday, a mix between older men dining solo at the U-shaped counter and a couple larger groups of women in the dining room. For an area where many of the spaces can feel tired, George's is relatively recently remodeled, and its corner location means light shines in from three directions.

My waitress was friendly, even if her grasp of English and my grasp of Spanish are both limited. Be warned that when they scanned my card it didn't include a tip, so you have to leave something in cash.

  3. This is exactly where you go when you're in the mood for cuchifritos!  It's a local restaurant on Graham Avenue.  it has a small area in the back for sitting down to eat or you can take out from the front.

i ordered fried chicken with salad on the side for $8 dollars.  Pretty reasonable and the amount of food I got was great!  The dishes are typical.  Rice and beans, pernil, roasted chicken, plantains!

    Pretty good!  Service is quick!

  4. "I guess you should only go for the Cuchifritos"

I stopped in after a workout for breakfast-type food and I will say that I was a little disappointed. I will give credit to George's in saying that the service was very prompt and on point but my food was a little struggle. I order eggs with chorizo. I was under the assumption that there would be scrambled eggs with a SIDE of chorizo; not eggs scrambled with chorizo. On top of that the eggs were scrambled WAAAYY too hard. Either that or the cook cut the eggs into pieces after they were cook. Well the rice and beans were good. So, kudos on that.

Hopefully, I can gather the strength to return and maybe give this place a better review..

  5. Nice American/Mexican diner right outside the J/M Myrtle stop.  Although I can't yet pick a favorite on the menu yet, Def stick with the Mexican side. All their food has big portions,  and you'll leave full. The staff is super nice too.

  6. CUCHIFRITOS !!

The food here is excellent.  I usually get the same thing whenever I am here. I order rice and beans with chicharron (fried pork skin), plantains, and a couple of papas rellenas (fried potato balls stuffed with meat). When you order papas rellenas, make sure to ask for their garlic sauce. It's just heavenly when you eat them together.

The only downside about coming here are their prices. It's a pretty ghetto area and for a platter with papas rellenas, it comes out to roughly 16 bucks. But still, the food is really amazing for what you pay for. Parking isn't too difficult and the J, M, and G train are all nearby.

Verdict – If you're looking for Puerto Rican food in Williamsburg, this is your spot! You could order through their street window or inside of their restaurant. There is another Cuchifritos restaurant across the street but it's not as good. Make sure you come to George's. They won't disappoint!
