I'm no wine connoisseur, but Giannone's has a pretty extensive collection. It also has a healthy selection of beer and liquor too. Other than that everything was standard; prices were good and the cashier did her job. If I'm shopping at the A&P next door again I will definitely come to Giannone's again.
Very nice liquor store – employees are very helpful and we enjoy stopping here when we're in the area.
This review is for in-store service as I am seeing really bad reviews about the online ordering. Giannone's is down the road from me and an easy stop off for me when I go to house parties and picnics in Hoboken and JC. Parking is very easy right in front. When I have needed help, I receive good advice on wines, champagnes and vodkas. I am on a mailing list so I get notifications of wine tastings and special promotions, as well as get lower pricing (I think?). The place is pretty big so I usually go here over other liquor stores in the area. Solid choice.
My last experience here started out terribly. I had grabbed the LAST large bottle of Tito's from the back of the lowest shelf and placed it on the counter so I had more free hands to bring back some wine. To my surprise, when I came back to the counter, the Tito's was gone. I asked "where's my Titos?" The girl at the counter, who was on the phone twirling her hair when I placed the Tito's in front of her, gave me the "I don't care" look and said nothing. We realized then that the guy who was paying as I asked where our bottle went, had taken our last Tito's. He apparently asked if it was anyone else's and then proceeded to just take it when the girl at the counter told him that "it was nobody's". The hell with the girl and the patron who clearly heard my fuss about him taking what was rightfully mine.
Right then, James, the owner of the store, came by, and at first, he didn't seem like he was going to do anything about the situation. He just looked at the patron who took ours, making his payment and leaving. I was appalled by the whole lack of care and insensitivity, that I was itching to write an absolutely nasty review (which they would have deserved if what happened next didn't happen) and to make sure to notify everyone I knew around our neighborhood to take their business elsewhere.
Well, as we were almost about to give up, James apologized and scolded his employees that they should be keeping an eye on what's on the counter. He's absolutely right. It's your job if you're at the counter to know what's going on – especially when it's right under your nose and the store only had 1 or 2 customers. He then offered to deliver a Tito's from their Hoboken location to our home (in Hoboken) later that day. We gladly accepted and I'm so grateful that he made this gesture – sweet redemption! What a great business attitude!
We paid for everything and left. When we arrived home in Hoboken after making some final stops at several other stores, we were wondering when the delivery guy would come – well, we didn't have to wonder long because he was at our door 15 minutes after we arrived!
James, thank you for the effort to make up for your employees' mistakes – your approach to how to alleviate the situation in a professional way very much deserves praise.
