  1. Atmosphere was on point, really relaxing, warm colors, low key and nice for date night or eve out w the girls. Waitress was knowledgeable and her description of the few menu items we asked about was on the money. Cocktails were really good and the menu was something like traditional soul and modern execution…I wish I would've tried more things, but I def look fwd to going back to do so.

  2. **Dinner and Show Review**

Came here for Valentines Day, and had the MOST PERFECT experience. Originally wanted to make a reservation at Red Rooster, but it was booked. This was a blessing, because Ginny's was without a doubt a more romantic setting for the occasion. The entire process from making the reservation to dancing the night away was seamless and hassle free. Admittedly, I'm nervous about going to popular restaurants on special nights, but Ginny's proved me oh-so wrong!

    – You'll always get a live person on the phone to make/confirm reservations, even if there's a slight hold.
    – Coat check – free (you can also store your leftovers here! #Yassss!)
    – Loved that we weren't limited to the pre-fix menu only. This was a major selling point for us, since most restaurants only offered pre-fix and we were not about that life. #WeLikeOptions
    – Even with a full house, service was on point.
    – Entertainment from Chris Turner was so sensual, so perfect!
    – The food: worth every penny. Even though the menu doesn't have many vegetarian options, I still ate like a queen. Just be sure to read the menu carefully if you're a strict vegetarian.
    – I got my fill on:
Cornbread (wasn't a fan of the tomato jam, but otherwise YES)
Mac and greens (not at all your traditional southern mac and cheese but still divine so YES)
Mashed potatoes (stole some from the carnivore's entree and holy YES!)
Spiced Butternut Squash Soup (YES YES YES)
Beet and Apple salad (least favorite dish)
    – The carnivore loved all of my eats plus the Deviled eggs and Helga's meatballs.

We didn't even have room for dessert, but I had my eye on the Rooster Donut with red velvet chocolate filling. Must get that in my life soon-ish!. After dinner, the tables were cleared for the nightlife portion — which as you can see from my previous review is the truth! I just can't stop raving about the incredible night we had here. Many thanks to all involved!

    Lemme 'splain some stuff here:
    1. Ginny's in NOT the red-headed step child of Red Rooster. It's the same thing! Just that Red Rooster = restaurant; Ginny's = lounge.
    2. Decor: Red Rooster = French bistro; Ginny's = Moroccan-esque.
    3. Food: Red Rooster = full menu (obvi); Ginny's = almost full menu (we ordered from the All Day menu)
    4. Entertainment: Red Rooster = live band included with dining experience; Ginny's = live band at a cover. (we paid $15pp)
    5. Parking: Available at a lot on 160 West 124th Street. Red Rooster/Ginny's customers get a special rate of $10 for cars, or $13 for Suv's with a stamped validation.

  3. Ginny's Supper Club has a new fan, and nelle c. is her name!

I had merely been hoping for a relaxed dinner at Red Rooster with an old friend, but ended up with a delightful and memorable evening. My friend showed up quite late, so I initially milled around the front of Red Rooster taking in the lively ambiance. First of all: any restaurant that plays Keith Sweat, Color Me Bad, Zhané, Soul 4 Real, and Soul 2 Soul all in the first 30 minutes is doing it right!!! So there I was, jammin' and people watching and getting hungry. When my friend finally showed up, the hostess told us that the only seating would be available downstairs at Ginny's Supper Club, but that they'd waive the $10 pp fee for the live show.

::Well, don't threaten us with a good time!::

It was wonderful! All of the food was on point – I had the salmon with bok choy and my friend had the fried yardbird. But the highlight of the evening was the Johnny O'Neal trio. Why oh why has live jazz faded to the fringes of our daily musical consumption? Mr. Johnny O'Neal was entertaining, personable, relatable, and had nothing but talent falling from his fingertips on them piano keys. The cellist was also excellent, as was the drummer who provided all kinds of enthusiastic percussion along with eye candy. (I'm just sayin'!)

The desserts were also great: the sweet potato doughnuts and the pineapple upside down cake are such treats.  Of course, being a Marcus Samuelsson fan, I had a few of the "Yes, Chef" cocktails and found their mixology to be the perfect complement to the lovely evening.

So, if you're looking for a different kind of night out that is memorable with exquisite food, delicious drinks and desserts, and filled with tunes that effectively transport you to an exciting bygone era – I believe Ginny's will do all that for you cuz it did it for me!

  4. I call this place "old faithful" because it is a guaranteed fun night out. We all know that it is a headache to get guys in the club in nyc. This is my go to spot when I'm in town and want to go out with a group of people. No real hassle at the door for the guys in the group. Music is always on point and I always meet someone interesting. I can always count on this spot to make my night.

  5. Excellent atmosphere at this beautiful place in the middle of Harlem. It has an old fashioned vibe that feels like you are in another Era.
I went to see some friends play with the Gregorio Uribe Big Band which by the way you should check out whenever they are in town. An amazing concert with a lot of good energy and people dancing all night long.
I can't say anything about the food because I didn't eat there but I thought the service was kind of slow at the bar where I had a couple of drinks.
The decor is astonishing and the area has plenty of room to move your body at least close to the bar.
I would go see any show there because the sound and vibe is great. The staff is also super nice.
    Thumbs up for Ginny's!

  6. I was at the Schomburg for First Friday's and hunger started to creep in. We walked down to 125th. First the Cove was crazy, as was the Social Corner so we left and made a Bee Line for Red Rooster. The wait was about 45 mins and 4 hey didn't have space to seat our party of 8 but the host suggested downstairs.

This was my first time so I assumed downstairs wss just an extension. …….much to my surprise it wasnt. Ginny's has a totally different vibe from Red Rooster. You are not able to have access to entire menu but it has a full bar.

We sat at the table and ordered drinks and appetizers. Two of us had the shrimp and Papaya Salad and two others had chicken and waffles. The food wasn't over the top amazing but it wasn't  the worse  we've had.

I would def go back for drinks but skip the food.

Ladies there were plenty of flirting cuties for those single and ready to mingke.

  7. There are two types of people in this world: those who brunch, and those who brunch in style. I fell into the latter bucket this weekend when I attended Lea DeLaria's Jazz Brunch at Ginny's Supper Club, a sister venue to Marcus Samuelsson's famed restaurant, Red Rooster, in Harlem. Best known for her role as "Big Boo Black" on Netflix's Orange is the New Black, DeLaria doubles as an accomplished jazz musician who recently released her 5th studio album, House of David. The album, inspired by English singer and songwriter David Bowie, features 12 of Bowie's covers with jazz influence.

"He's the only man I'd blow," DeLaria said to a packed audience at Ginny's Supper Club before performing a track from her innovative new album. Laughter aside, the audience enjoyed DeLaria's bold reexamination of Bowie's songs, such as "Golden Years," "Modern Love," and "Life On Mars" – all of which were reinterpreted with the language of jazz. Additionally, DeLaria brought holiday festivity to the venue with her jazz rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

The highlight of the event – without a doubt – was DeLaria's outstanding vocal performance. The "brunch" portion of the Jazz Brunch was so-so. The brunch buffet was a spread of traditional, soulful Southern favorites and comfort food from Red Rooster. Highlights included Mac & Greens (rigatoni pasta with New York cheddar, parmesan, and collard greens with crispy breadcrumbs on top), Fried Yardbird (fried chicken battered with flour, buttermilk, and coconut milk), creamy grits, roasted root vegetables, and an assortment of dessert.

  8. The authenticity of seeing a live jazz band in Harlem takes you back in time. The band was great but it's very loud in this sub level space. I would not come expecting to converse with friends because you won't be able to hear each other unless you are shoulder to shoulder.

I had a moment of excitement with a girlfriend and sounded off a slight shriek.. The host came over and asked me to keep my voice down. Ummm excuse me! Nobody puts baby in the corner! I was very annoyed and he blew my buzz from my drink (Hello Chef) that was sooo good. I understand if we were continuously loud and was disturbing the club. At the end of the night the host sent us a round of champagne and a shout out on the mic. He clearly knew his actions were uncalled for but hey what a way to make up for it with free liquor.

The food was amazing and I the DJ afterwards was rocking, playing a good mix of music. I highly recommend reservations and they were kind enough to seat our partial party of six. Good for groups but better for couples. Perfect for dinner and dancing afterwards in a diverse environment. Welcome to the new Harlem.
