I came here earlier today to stock up for the Giants game since it is close to the train station in Secaucus and I had read many good reviews on Yelp. We didn't leave disappointed.
We ordered two sandwiches to go, The Prosciutto, mozzarella & roasted peppers and the Chicken, mozzarella and instead of Charlie's peppers had substituted the roasted peppers, both sandwiches with balsamic vinegar.
We shared the chicken sandwich at the game, the chicken was moist and the mozzarella was soft and creamy. I believe they may make their own roasted peppers because it had chunks of garlic in with the oil which was delicious. The prosciutto sandwich is currently still marinating in my refrigerator getting nice and spongy :). The sandwiches are large enough that we only could eat the one between the two of us at today's game.
Charming little place not far from Patterson Plank Road and also close to Meadowlands Parkway so it is easy to get to. They have free delivery, daily soup specials and do catering as well. The catering is something I may consider with the holidays coming up.
Giovanni's has been on my list to try for a couple of years, but I just never make it out to Secaucus much. Some recent holiday shopping has put an end to this oversight. I ordered a half sized mozzarella sandwich with artichokes and peppers. The mozzarella was very good, as was the bread which was on the soft size with seeds. The sandwich was huge and could have fed 2 people.
Truth be told, I like my town's Italian deli's sandwiches more, but these sandwiches are also fantastic. Customer service was very friendly. Aside from the mozzarella, what makes Giovanni's stand out for me is:
– daily special hot sandwich options.
– three sandwich sizes: full, half, and half of a half.
– they are open on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!
– really accommodating attitude from the staff taking orders and making the sandwiches.
I just finally found this place like two weeks ago and it was a line so I knew that when I was getting into was going to be good apparently they without these chicken cutlet much at all sandwiches and I'm thinking how simple is that???
I got some other stuff on the side but when I brought the sandwich outside and sat down and ate it I could not believe how unbelievably fresh and beautiful the chicken cutlet and the cheese was together the bread was good but I'm just not a bread person
One thing that's good about this place is that even there's a line they do work very very fast and their prices are good and the gentleman that worked on the counter or very very friendly and nice
I don't live in Seacaucus I live out in Nutley so it's a bit of a drive for me I think the only negative thing that I can find about this place is that they do close very very early
My son asks me all the time if we can go and get a sandwich from Giovanni's but it's always after hours
Italian sandwich on a roll. Delicious. The mozzarella is made every morning and is amazing. A great Italian deli.
I've never ordered the grilled chicken again but everything else has been amazing!
Can't go wrong with Ham & Salami w/ Mozz!
EAT HERE.
Seriously, after one sample of mozzarella, you'll be in heaven. So I had to have a sandwich with some mozzarella and opted for the roast beef with red peppers. The sandwiches are seriously huge. I could only get through half. For next time, I think I'll split a sandwich or have one for lunch the next day is still a good option.
Now it gets pretty busy at lunch time. I do wish the menu board had the sandwich information instead of just the deli meat and cheese by the pound information. They have that info on a to go handout though. There are about 3 tables inside and 2 outside, so you may or may not get seating if you want it, and the tables have those holes in it so be careful if you have a big messy sandwich.
Still, a delicious and quick meal, definitely recommend!
While in town recently, I was looking for a good sandwich. With such high reviews, I knew Giovanni's would be a sure thing. Well perhaps I hit on on off day but I was not impressed. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich but that's not what I got. I received a breaded chicken cutlet and a thick slab of mozzarella on bread…no roasted red peppers or balsamic vinegar. While the mozzarella was pretty fantastic (and the only thing I ate) the rest was a let down.
Perhaps as an out of towner I need to specify my toppings but I simply thought I was ordering the grilled chix sandwich as listed on the menu.
Awesome sandwiches, great mutz, questionable customer service.
Taking out here was always a little tricky – there's a certain degree of anticipation and excitement for the impressive deli grub, but there's also a sure need to maintain a safe level of ambivalence in order to keep up with the unfriendly (but not hostile) staff.
I say "not hostile" because it's an Italian deli in North Jersey, so one should always be prepared for a cold staff… I remember calling here one time on a minor holiday this past spring to confirm they were open – in response, I got a "yeah open 'til ___" followed by a sharp click.
Now, trust me, I don't call delis asking if they're open in order to proceed towards a more free-flowing, intimate conversation, but that response was still rather off-putting. Maybe it was a bit presumptuous of me to think that Giovanni's would be joining me in taking the day off on March 21st, or National Common Courtesy Day (real thing), which I now know is not observed everywhere.
