First off when you step into this place you immediacy feel welcomed. The decor and lighting fit perfectly into the great sports bar they are, they had a lot of draft beer, and a lot of special, i dint have nothing to eat because was full, but it look like a good bar.
I purchased a voucher for a brunch meal and my family and I came here one Sunday afternoon. The server was really nice. He came to our table right away and even though we were taking an eternity to decide what we wanted, he was still nice and even gave us suggestions when it came to the food. We were not disappointed with their Buffalo Wings and the Jalapeno Poppers. We all opted for burgers and they were very tasty. We even ordered Quesadillas to go. All in all we were very happy with this spot, especially because they are located so close to home. Loved the food and the service was great.
So hubby, my son & I came here again for dinner tonight after having a wonderful brunch over the weekend and we ended up leaving. Why? Because the clueless waitress did a million things before she even brought us our menus, let alone said a word to us after walking by our table 4 times and making eye contact.
Instead of even acknowledging us, she served drinks to the table right next to us, made TWO trips back and forth, to close out another nearby table's bill and AFTER that table cleared out, she passed us again and started to clean the table. When we saw that, we got fed up and left. We headed up a couple of blocks to the Bronx Burger House, where the staff is way more accommodating AND pleasant.
This experience left a sour taste in my mouth about the place because we came here previously for lunch and had great food and service, which prompted us to make the return visit. I wish I could talk about the dinner food but we didn't even get that far into this visit. You wonder why places like this end up having to resort to shelling out vouchers in the first place. Here's a clue, LOOK AT YOUR STAFF.
Gleeson's is a wonderfully cozy and casual sports bar in Riverdale. Came here after a five-mile hike combined with a five-mile run, and I was pretty hungry. Gleeson's has a tasty selection of bar food classics, including sandwiches, wraps, and burgers. My dining partner and I ordered the appetizer sampler, which had quite a variety: mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese bites, and a whole bunch of other deep fried goodies. The mac and cheese bites are pretty admirable. They taste like actual macaroni rather than just deep fried question marks.
The beer selection isn't too bad and they have specials every day of the week. Service is great, I thought: casual without being rude, and attentive without being overbearing. I will definitely return next time I'm around Van Cortlandt Park.
Where do you go after a run at Van Cortlandt Park? Why, to Gleeson's for a pint, of course. It helped that the Jets were playing in London and I had an hour to kill. I expected this to be a neighborhood dive where the stool pigeons would have me the side-eye for intruding. Instead, I found a friendly joint where you could keep to yourself or indulge in some Jets fandom and camaraderie. The crowd was diverse–people of all colors and races, hallelujah!
I enjoyed a Blue Moon Pumpkin Harvest Ale before peacing out, but it was definitely a welcoming place to kill some brain cells. There's Atomic Wings, too, for you wing-heads.
I have been to Gleesons about 5 times and every single time is a great time. Their Atomic wings are crispy and not greasy. Took a couple of friends that enjoy chicken wings and they both loved them. Flavors include thai chili, garlic Parmesan and the regulars like hot, mild, and the super hot ones Abusive, Nuclear, Suicidal.
Their beer selection is great and always cold. $4 blue moons during happy hour. The bar has 8 TVs and they will change the game if you ask nicely. Owe waitress Emely was very nice, attentive and very apologetic regarding other peoples reviews and she has improved how she handles customers. which to me sounds like they read them and actually work to fix them.
The Jukebox is one of those that has access to the internet so you can get any song available on the web, all genres…
The people are nice, not loud and seem to be from around the area. I dig the place very much
Prices are very reasonable
Atomic wings 50 cents each on Sundays with 12-8 happy hour when there is a football game.
