Big fan of the Global Kitchen quinoa salad. At $8, including chicken (extra $1.50 for salmon), and 4 toppings of your choice, it's a steal by midtown standards. It'll come out closer to $10 on Seamless for delivery. Plus they offer a variation of spicy gochujang Korean sauce, which I always get on the side and adds a nice kick to the salad. Comes with a delicious buttery bread, and portions are big enough for lunch and dinner.
global kitchen is pretty okay… mostly because it's connected to my midtown office building at 1290AoA. none of the food options are particularly outstanding, nor are they bad enough to warrant a bad review. it's the kind of place you'd only come to for a quick lunch during the work week, or to grab some fruit or oatmeal on the way into the office.
the place is especially busy early inthe morning and during lunch, and offers pizza, udon, pasta, sandwiches, panins, soup, sushi, smoothies, breakfast options, salads, chips, snacks, etc.
the BEST part: they now have a quinoa station: $7.95 for white or red quinoa (or a mix of the two) tossed with grilled chicken (salmon or shrimp are $1.50 extra), 4 toppings (chose from bell peppers, avocado, feta cheese, red onion, chick peas, tomatoes, broccoli, tofu, etc.), and dressing. you get a good serving, and it's relatively healthy… for only a few bucks more than the delicious (but not so healthy) halal guys down the road. sometimes ya need a break from street meat, no?
Found the small place on my way to my company and I loved it. It is more like a fusion type of place with sandwiches, wraps, omelettes and smoothies offered during breakfast time and they made it instantaneously. I also enjoyed the huge space inside and could tell more options would be provided during lunch hours. Fair price as well – will be back.
Marked.
Global Kitchen has Korean food now. This place is officially dangerous for my diet!
I've been coming here regularly for the past couple of years for a quick lunch option. The udon/soba station was my favorite, followed by the saute station (pan-seared salmon, fried rice, pasta, and quinoa stir fry for the win) and then the grill (fish tacos, spaghetti and meatballs, and lemon chicken). But when they added a Korean station a few months back, oh man…I went for a week straight. Yay for easy access to decent soondubu and yukgaejang! I tried their bulgogi once and it was a bit too salty, but maybe I'll give it another chance.
I'm not ashamed to say that I've become a fan.
For a quick lunch spot with variety, I find Global Kitchen to have great quality and choices. I don't know why this place only (currently) has 3 stars, because overall the location is clean and it's a quick takeaway. Their sushi is great! And they have great cook to order pasta choices. And the smoothies / juices are definitely worth trying. Overall, it's an easy spot for lunch, especially during the lunch rush in the busy corporate area.
I really can't with this place anymore. I mean, it's got good food, sure. I enjoy the food. I can get a bacon egg and cheese croissant in the morning for a decent price, but… it's just not worth it.
1) They started this new $5 credit card minimum, which I get, but also, just springing that on customers who probably don't consistently spend $5 on breakfast is annoying.
2) I have NEVER been charged the same amount for the same breakfast sandwich. Seriously. I came here one day, it was less than $5, was told I needed to pay in cash. Next day, it was just under $6, so I could use my card. Next day, barely above $5. How exactly does THE SAME SANDWICH cost a DIFFERENT PRICE on different days?
Seriously, figure out what price you're going to charge, and charge it. It's maddening that I never know what I'm going to pay until you ring me up.
If you like to smell like greasy food after only standing around for 5 minutes, come here. They need to do something about the ventilation because it's hot, greasy, and makes all your clothing smell.
If you like canned soup, you should come here also. I ordered a large Manhattan clam chowder and regretted it the moment the guy opened the pot… it even smelled like canned soup. I've had the Manhattan clam chowder from Cafe Duke and it was delicious… unlike this place. Just imagine opening up a can of Campbell's or Progresso soup and sticking in the microwave – that's exactly what the soup here tasted like.
This place is across the street and oh-so convenient, but I will not be returning.
In addition, 10 minutes after finishing the food I feel extremely nauseous….
After coming here on/off for the past 4 years, I have decided to finally leave a review. Unfortunately this place has taken a turn for the worse. First, the prices kept on increasing but the quality does not. Another is that they've implemented a $5 min credit card charge, which I think is ridiculous. Furthermore, if you are getting a half sandwich/half soup "special," they no longer allowed you to combine with your corporate discount. You can walk out a few blocks for better food with better prices.
