What to do here?! Was difficult for me to decide between 4 or 5 stars, but since I had curry ya and can compare both, I decided to give this place a 4 stars and curry ya 5 stars. Bought 2 grand slam take outs since I wanted to try both the pork and chicken katsu. The grand slam includes 2 sausages, 1 pork & 1 chicken, 1 shrimp, 1 egg all for $12.50. We also added cheese which was an additional $1.50. You can add additional toppings like egg, pork sausages, shrimp for additional cost. The pork and chicken Wer both really good, but personally I liked the chicken a tad more. The outside of both were crunchy and inside was still tender. The Japanese curry over the rice was really flavorful and good. Sausage was okay, but the shrimp was really good. Wish I ordered extra shrimps! The egg was just a regular hard boiled egg cut into thin slices. They give you a generous amount for the price you pay so I thought it was worth it. I split it into 2 meals and will save the other half for tmrw, more deliciousness for me 🙂 this place is a great fast food type of Japanese curry spot. The curry is not your typical traditional curry so please don't expect that. This is Japanese curry, which is different. If you are looking for traditional curry, this is not the flavor for you.
Came here recently on a hot day – it was nice and cool, almost chilly inside. Seating is relatively limited, about 20 people maximum. Interesting decor. Minimum $10 to swipe. Walk up to the counter to order. Free dispensed water to the right of the counter.
I ordered the Katsu, the smallest size (I forget the term). Delicious crispy Katsu, with a load of curry, on a bed of shaved lettuce, and rice. Simple.
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to mix the curry with the lettuce and rice but I did anyway. The curry here is reallly great! It's not spicy at all, but the curry flavor is delicious and hearty. It was $7.50 for the size I ordered. I think it's pretty sizable and definitely worth the price as we are in the city! I wasn't able to finish mine.
I recommend this place for cheap eats 🙂
Price, portion size, taste: all in all a decent 4 star joint.
Japanese katsu curry comfort food. I love it's simplicity. Pick your protein: chicken or pork. They also have shrimp tempura and sausage, or you can get the combo that adds these to the katsu. Then pick your sides and add ons. I got the Homerun combo which comes with 1 chicken or pork cutlet, one shrimp tempura, one sausage, and one egg. All covered with their curry gravy served on top of a good serving of rice for the low low price of $9.50. It was a great deal. Tasty for sure. I was a fan of the katsu and the shrimp tempura. The sausage and egg on the other hand…I could've done without. The egg and the sausage were cold and there was something weird about the sausage. It tasted a day old.
This particular location is super small and cramped, so if it's during the peak lunchtime rush, be ready to take this bad boy to go. We got lucky and scored a table by the window, but the place is so small, the line to order was right next to us. Super uncomfortable having everyone stare at us while we ate. There was no place for people to wait for their food, so everyone just crowded in the middle aisle. I thought someone was gonna sit on my food it was so cramped in there. Next time we'll take it to central park and eat in peace.
I'm a fan. Go Go Curry is my definition of a cheap, good eat. Space is limited, but food options and size choices aren't. Choose from chicken, pork, sausage, shrimp, or get them all with the gland slam option.
My first time eating at Go Go Curry was at the WTC location and I absolutely loved it. However this location in comparison is really sub-par. The service wasn't great. I had to wait for the cashier to finish her conversation before I could place my order. The wait for my food was twice as long as it was at WTC even though they were both equally busy (staff at this location is just really unorganized and unprofessional). As for the food itself, the curry tasted really watered down compared to WTC and I got a lot less of it. Other than that it was just okay. I'll stick with the WTC location when i'm in the area but I doubt I'd go back to this Midtown location again as there are much better food options nearby.
For the price, this place is OK. I got the grand slam for $13 after a night of drinking and it definitely hit the spot. While it is not of the best quality, you get your moneys worth in the quantity served. Chicken and pork katsu, hard boiled eggs, shrimp tempura and some rice. It is a pretty good deal but the taste is just OK at best. Good for a quick bite.
Really great place here. Gigantic portions for very reasonable prices, and the service is fast.
This is not a date spot, it looks and runs like a McDonalds.
I tried the Grand Slam which is a bit of everything, and for $13 it was so much food. I liked just about everything but I'd say the best things were the chicken and pork cutlets. The sausage is the same stuff you've had everywhere, and the shrimp was good, but heavily breaded.
But BE CAREFUL – getting a double or triple only seems to mean you get extra rice. You still only get 1 piece of meat, so its less of a good deal than it seems.
Extra meat is $2 a piece, so it may be worth getting a SMALL size with extra meat to get much better bang for your buck.
By no means is this gourmet whatsoever, its just breaded and fried meats. It tastes pretty good and it gets ya full.
This is the spot for hearty, delicious katsu, and the chicken katsu is the classic that's also my favorite. I enjoyed the hole-in-the-wall feel to this place and its budget friendly prices.
Eating in was a great decision, since the place was empty when I visited and I wanted to eat my food while it was still fresh. Since this place is small and not the most immaculate, it's better for chowing down on katsu curry than for taking your time eating and having an extended conversation with friends. You have coffee shops for that.
