I am not a fan of Japanese curry, but my friend wanted to try this place, so we did. I chose the shrimp option and it came with two pieces. To their credit, the food looked exactly as pictured. I didn't finish my food because I just didn't like it. But, like I said, I don't like Japanese curry.
The girl behind the counter was really nice.
The Katsu was flavorless with a chewy texture- terrible. But forgivable given the cost.
What I cannot forgive is the complete LACK OF CURRY in my dish. It's all rice.
Seriously. Where did my curry Go-Go to???
This is a poor representation of Japanese style curry.
After years of seeing Go! Go! Curry! all over Manhattan, I recently gave it a shot, and I have to say, I was pretty impressed for the price. It's easily more of a quantity over quality situation, but sometimes you need something filling and fried for something such as, oh, I don't know, hangover recovery. Woof.
The website refers this location as "Chelsea Stadium", which is laughable given the size of the location, which is an incredibly small, sort of divey shop. Every day of the month that ends with 5 (5th, 15th, 25th), you can get a coupon for a free topping, which can only be used on your next visit, not the current visit. Not a bad deal, but I can only eat this stuff every once in a while anyway, so a coupon for a future visit is only so useful.
I went with the Grand Slam, which included 2 sausages, 1 pork katsu, 1 chicken katsu, 1 shrimp tempura, a bed of rice, and a whole mess of curry. Not a vegetable in sight, haha. For $12.50, an incredible price, given all the food that you get. It's not the most quality meat, but at these prices, I can't complain too much. The katsus were both fried quite nicely and not too greasy, and there was an ample amount of curry to pair with the rice. The shrimp tempura was pretty nicely fried too, and a pretty huge portion. The sausages weren't the best, but with the curry, the flavors were fine.
The service behind the counter was pretty quick, although they were sort of confused at me only needing 1 set of forks/spoons. The fatassery is real. Yet, I actually wasn't able to finish it, so next time, I will likely go for the Home Run curry, which is $9.50, but just about the same size minus 1 katsu and 1 sausage.
Come here for the value play, and if you want a lot of fried stuff.
You go, Go! Go! Curry!
With their unapologetic obsession with the number 5 ("go" in Japanese!), GGC offers delicious, cheap curry to the masses.
May 5th was their Go! Go! Day (5/5) so they offered Walk size Pork or Chicken katsu curries for only $5. On any other day, its like $7 which is still an amazing deal. Plus, they gave you 5 free topping coupons for your next purchase. They have a wide array of toppings, from cheese, rakkyo (pickled Japanese shallots),sausage, and hard boiled eggs.
I think this is one of the best deals in the city- cheap, delicious, fast, and super filling!
I have really mixed feelings about this place, and the three star rating reflects that. It would have been a 2 or a 4 really. It's inexpensive, with good portions, and decent quality. I usually get the grand slam to share, at 12.50, that's quite a deal in nyc. The katsu is nicely breaded, and it comes with a lot of rice, but I think they need to be less skimpy with the curry. This is a curry restaurant, but I feel like I could barely mix the curry in with the heaps of rice. There needs to be a better ratio. The service is nonexistent. All in all, you get what you pay for.
I have been hearing about this place for the longest and I finally got around to trying it today. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry (single / $7.50). I instantly became a fan! Crispy and tender chicken with a good amount of warm, sticky rice and curry. My fiancé ordered the Home Run Pork Curry, which comes with 1 shrimp, sausage and a hard boiled egg. I was a little envious because I missed that one on the menu. I must come back and try everything!
This is really more of a 3.5 star for me. This is my first time at this location. I typically go to the Times Sq. location but I happened to be in the neighborhood and had a sudden hankering for crispy chicken katsu atop Japanese-style curry and rice. I am a big fan of Go Go Curry and I love their food. In that regard this location is pretty consistent with the quality and taste that I have come to expect. However, the issue I had here was the service. While it wouldn't classify as curt, it did fall short of the level of friendliness that I have experienced at the other location. It was also assumed that I wanted my order to-go even though I had expressed no intention of eating that food anywhere else but inside the very small dining area they offer. I was surprised when I received my order inside a yellow plastic bag and Styrofoam container with a plastic fork, instead of in a metal dish, on a tray, and with a proper metal fork. Despite my disappointment I proceeded to unwrap my food and enjoy it on the spot. To be honest there really isn't a lot of space to sit and eat in there anyway. There is probably enough room for 5-6 people max.
All in all, the food is consistent. However, the service could improve. I'll probably just stick with the Times Sq. location from now on.
Fiancée and I were out shopping for home goods and didn't want to do it on an empty stomach. Enter Yelp — and Go! Go! Curry! It was perfect, close, and Japanese curry: something that we'd been craving since moving out here.
We were trying to cut down on spending too much on dinner too, cause buying home goods is $$$ and the one $ indicator for this place was extremely attractive.
When we got in, we debated whether their smallest size, the "Walk," would be big enough. We decided we'd go for it knowing that we could order more. Luckily, we didn't have to cause the Walk size was just right for both of us! I wonder what the other sizes are like, cause I can eat a LOT and it filled me up. I added cheese on mine, which, I guess sounds weird to some people, but know that it makes it 10x better!
My only complaint is that the pork katsu doesn't seem very substantial; it breaks apart easily and it's not as meaty as I'm used to. If you're thinking it was undercooked, it wasn't… I felt fine and dandy after so I guess it's just not as good a cut or anything.
Bottom line: If you're tryna get some good value, and get the best bang for your money in this city… hit this place up!
