Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! As an official Yelp Elite, I've decided to make my first review as an elitist a special one.
This place has & will always have a special place in my heart. I've known her for 14 years and as the only Asian American living in this ghetto-ass neighborhood, she's been there over & over to comfort me through racism, hangovers, being accosted, breakups, whatever you can think of. Goddamned comfort food!
This place definitely deserves the 5 stars alone because I've seen the owners go through so much shit from the neighborhood. I'm obviously not going to give any examples because it'll come off as racist, but to give you an idea of what it's like to walk through this street, a bullet went through my window on Christmas Eve one time.
But besides socioeconomic reasons, this take-out restaurant has THE BEST Chinese Take-Out I've ever tasted. It's hard to believe that I'm not saying that out of any bias but their chicken wings are the crispiest, non-greasy wings I've ever had. Well… they were the best. The owners who were here before I even moved into the neighborhood (2001) recently left; so, it's under new management and they're ok.
Anyways, back to the chicken. I LOVE crispy foods & I LOVE even more crispy foods that don't make me feel sick. Side note: I love skinny Asian girls. It wasn't just the chicken wings, they had the Sesame Chicken made for Gods! I've had friends from all over the Bronx tell me this place is among their favorite Take-Out joints. So, it fits the rule: The ghettoer the neighborhood, the better the fast food.
When it comes to Take-Out, you've probably noticed I go towards meat-only dishes & one of the meat-only dishes they do the best is the "Boneless Chicken." If you have no idea what that is, don't worry. That vagueness accompanies every Take-Out place; what I mean is every Take-Out place cooks their Boneless Chicken differently, & Good Taste does it exactly how I love it: just really deep-fried chunks of chicken; it's heavily breaded & it's so fried, it can absorb an unholy amount of ketchup & still be crispy. I'm telling you… witchcraft. Delicious Chinese-American Witchcraft.
The only other things I order from here is the Crispy Boneless Garlic Chicken, which also for some reason varies deeply in other Take-Out places. I remember the first time I ordered it here, I prayed it would still be crispy despite the Garlic Sauce… & it was! That has to be their specialty, crispy despite saucy. Don't forget the part about it not making you feel like greasy poop.
So, that's it. It's a shame the previous owners moved; we used to nod heads every time we passed each other in the street. Some sort of Asian camaraderie. Probably the last thing worth mentioning are the Iced Teas. I used to live off of those things in middle school (Never forget your roots!). Seriously, the easiest way into my heart is meat & sugar.
