Chaat was subpar. Jalebi was cold and you could tell it was old. Service took forever even when it wasn't packed. Won't come back here.
I simply love the food at this place. Located a bit aside from Jackson Heights hustle and bustle, Gourmet is a huge 2 floor restaurant, specializing in authentic Pakistani Cuisine. If you're looking for delicious desi food, you can't find a better spot in Jackson Heights than here!
I must admit that I stopped coming here for a while after my last visit. Their portions compared to the price was ridiculous!! On my last visit I literally paid $11 for Goat Curry, that came with 2 small pieces of meat. I was shocked when I received my order. But, I felt like I had to give it another try so went back today.
I notice the staff at the register (who ended up being the owner) engage in small talk with everyone, providing a comfortable and very friendly/ inviting service. We took some guests here for dinner earlier today and they were simply blown away by the quality and taste of the food. I noticed that the portions were a lot better than before as well. Definitely winning so far…
Now the food…Here it goes:
– Chicken Halim: One bite, OMG! This is sooo goood! I can eat the whole bowl my self. Delicious, spicy and good portion shared between the 4 of us. Wow, one of the best Halim's I've had. All I could think of at that moment was, when am I returning here? This is a must order!
– Naan: Huge, Fresh and Fluffy. Definitely how a Naan should taste and it doesn't get better than this folks. Heavenly bread at your service.
– Chicken Kabob: Honestly, when we ordered this I wasn't expecting much. I was thinking that it would be the same dry, tasteless pieces of meat like all the other spots in the area. First bite, and I was in shock! The best Chicken Kabobs I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Super moist, juicy and packed with flavor. I know I'm ordering this next time!
– Chicken Pulao: My favorite! Can't find any other spot that makes such delicious and light Chicken Pulao. Reminds me of Afghan Murgh Pulao. Very delicious and I always order this when it's available.
– Prices: very reasonable. We spent $30 that easily fed 4 hungry adults and a child. And we were stuffed! Definitely a better deal than the fellow Desi competitors.
Overall, I always believe that every place deserves a second chance and that belief has lead me to discover a whole new menu at Gourmet today, making it one of my favorite Desi (South Asian) Restaurants in the area! And I really hope it remains at this standard. We definitely enjoyed today's visit. All I can say is that, you have to try it out for yourself!
I like the Pakistani style curries here very much. So tasty, rich in flavor and not over spiced, and there are a lot of choices of meat curries. However, I think the price here is really high as I got white rice and 2 dishes with coke, and was charged $20. The fact that they charge an order white rice for $5 is simply ridiculous. Maybe I will try their desserts next time, but nothing else.
Ro C goes here all the time and she likes it, though she swears it's not the best place around. We went for the falooda, which she screamed out in ecstasy as she was eating, so I guess it was good. I'm a fan of there Gulab Jamun – sweet sticky balls are tasty and they hold up in the fridge as well.
Having passed this place for a long while, we finally decided to check this place out as it always appealed from the outside.
For a desi restaurant in the Jackson Heights area, this place definitely stands out…! It is clean, appealing, friendly service, and the food is amazing…! i am sorry i did not go here before.
There are two floors, with the catering hall / family sitting area on the 2nd floor. On the 1st floor, the display cases scream to the customer with the abundance of food choices, especially, the indian sweets that tend to stand out as they are fresh, delicious, and quite tempting…
The food is fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced…!
Our party sampled chicken tikka boneless, chicken seekh kabab, tandoor behari kabab, fresh hot naans, pakora karhi, and i believe a lamb shank curry dish.
The food was amazing, as the kababs were moist, juicy, and flavorful, unlike other surrounding restaurants that tend to dry out their meats…! the naan was big and fluffy….
For dessert, we tried the Falooda, which i have to say is the best Falooda i've ever had in the US…!!!
Overall, this place is a gem and worth the visit for an authentic pakistani/indian meal…!
The service is really slow here. We sat here like 20 minutes after we were seated. Then we finally asked someone for a waiter and a waiter came and helped us a few minutes later. They did apologize but the person who I was with did complain in Urdu to them. Anyways besides that the food was great. The portion was too much and I had to take some home even though I ordered a small. The prices are fair. It has nice seating and is clean. It is a nice atmosphere also.
We waited a long time to get our credit card back also. The service was VERY slow.
Spacious and clean Pakistani restaurant. La H and I swung by around sundown during Ramadan to pick up some gulab jamun and falooda- i love looking at the dessert case since all the dishes look so colorful and yummy.
The women who work here are nice and helpful; the men? not so much. There's this one waiter who works on the 2nd floor who seems to hate girls so I try to stay away from his tables every time I dine here.
Some of the dishes they have are a bit overpriced; small portions + they charge an obscene amount for rice.
