On my way to and from the job and the PABT I sometimes stop at the GCM to pickup fruits, vegetables, meats, cold cuts, species, cheese and seafood that I may need to complete a planned meal. Like I have two chops and need another one for dinner not that I leave here with two shopping bags, Now not everything here is AAA, I skip the bakery because Zabar's is mediocre.
There are other shops here too for chocolates and flowers, but there are plenty of other options on the way and in the neighborhood, so I can skip them.
Now this is no cheapo bargain price joint. You will pay 2, or 3 times what they charge at you home town market. For example organic seedless grape at home are $ 3.95 lb at the GCM it's$ 6.95 lb. or the Prosciutto that was mark $ 17.99 lb, ya.
I would shop here just for the convenience not because I am rolling in dough, cause otherwise when I get home I would have to get the car drive to and back from the market and now another hour is gone and after I cook and eat soon it's bedtime, ya that's my daily rat race until I hit lotto.
In the mornings it's not crowed but noon and especially during rush hour the place is mobbed. Now GC as other shop in the food hall were you may find something else other than groceries so do check them out so you know what's there.
The array of items here is staggering as it the quality and freshness. This is without a doubt a place that you can hit on the way home and know for a fact that you are getting high quality produce or meats or an already prepared item/meal. It's pricey but then again you're in the middle of Manhattan…
Fan-flippin'-tastic.
A food lovers dream.

I only wish the Penzey's location here had stayed open.
I really do hate this expression so pardon my use of it, but people – I CAN'T EVEN! My heart skipped a few beats, my brain temporarily melted, and I'm pretty sure my eyes glazed over in a really creepy zombie-like manner.
I think that this is what normal women must feel like when they enter a shopping mall, outlet mall, Nordstrom's.. you name it. I detest shopping but I sure love me some neatly stacked fruit, some 20 odd variety of mushrooms, a beautiful salmon or a mountain of spices.
This market has anything anybody could want. Fresh spices and herbs, beautiful fish and crustaceans, all the fruits and vegetables you can imagine, baked goods that look too pretty to eat, olives and tapenades and hummus and spreads with 15 varieties of fresh, crusty bread to go alongside them, the most amazing cheeses, stacks of coffee beans and tea leafs, fresh meats and sausages, chocolates and truffles and bonbons, prepared meals that looked like something from a restaurant.. seriously, anything you could want, but I'll stop now.
I was doing wonderful until I realized I was staying in a hotel. Without a kitchen. No opportunity to utilize any of these amazing ingredients in the next few days. Bubble burst, I pouted some, but then I bought a cookie and all was well. The end.
Amazing place with lot of flavours, smells and tastes. Everything looks fresh and everything we have tried was amazing just more expensive.
A convenient market at Grand Central station. There is so much to see & buy!
The selection of cheese is amazing. Hard or soft cheese. Crackers & anything to go with it. There is fresh fish too & they look really fresh. And if course how could I miss the selection of dessert?!
This place is a bit overwhelming. Especially if you're an idiot like me who walks in by accident trying to get to the main concourse. But hey, you can walk the length of the shop to get to where you're going and take in the views. It's basically a giant gourmet shop with different counters. There's a crap ton of cheese. There's a butcher. There's seafood. There's prepared foods as well. It's a bit narrow, so you'll probably be bumping elbows with tourists, but there's room for everyone. Prices are a bit up there, and it gets even more crowded during rush hour. But when in Rome…
What a gem!! When you walk through the doors, it felt like I went back in time. I love how everything is laid out in front of you, you point through the glass to ask for a pound of fish or a pound of cheese and the spices fill the air with it's distinct scents. I love how people are just picking up tonight's dinner in the busiest stop at Grand Central.
