Grand Sichuan Eastern

“Standard Sichuanese appetizers, such as Dan Dan Mian, Fu Qi Fei Pian are done very well and should appeal to those who do not regularly eat spicy foods.”

“The highlights of this restaurant are the Sichuan menu items like Chong Qing Spicy Chicken, Potato with vinegar, and dan dan noodles!”

“The other yelpers weren't kidding, the dan dan mian here is legendary.”

  1. Recently  took my wife for this special dish. I have an eclectic palate for Chinese food , having lived in Hong Kong, Singapore for many years. . Good Schezuan food.  Dan dan noodles spicy and savory.Still got to try their mapo tofu. The food is authentic Szechuanese and the space is in a banquet style setting a bit small. Great and quick service. A nice place to grab  authentic Chinese food without having to trek to queens or Chinatown.

  2. It's a little far from my work area (55th and 2nd) but Grand Sichuan Eastern lives up to the name of Americanized Chinese food.  Having tasted authentic Chinese food myself, I'm here to say that this place is not authentic at all, but if you're looking for sesame chicken and egg rolls, this is your place.  It's actually much nicer than the locations in Brooklyn which usually are small, looks dirty, and lacks the proper restaurant atmosphere, but this location is nicely lit, comfortable, and decorated way nicer than the authentic Chinese restaurants.  It's clearly catered towards a more touristy crowd, but that's alright because the food is absolutely delicious.

Be sure to stop by during their lunch special hours (11AM – 3PM).  It's super quick – we were in and out in about 15 minutes.  You'll get a side with your order.  I got the sesame chicken and hot and sour soup.  The hot and sour soup is vegetarian with a lot of mushrooms.  Wasn't too spicy, which I liked!  The sesame chicken is topped with the right amount of sauce and has broccoli underneath.  It also includes rice.  For $8, that's a lot of food.  My friend got the chicken fried rice, which he raves about.  Also – if you'd like to sit outside, there's a really nice place tucked in on 55th street between 2nd and 3rd avenue, closer to 2nd.

  3. Great Schezuan food. The soup dumplings are tasty though small and the dan dan noodles spicy yet savory. The food is authentic Schezuanese and the space remodeled from a banquet style setting to a more modern blue lighting and white walls situation. Great and quick service. A nice place to grab Chinese food without having to trek to Chinatown.

  4. The food was awesome, particularly the rice powder with beef and pumpkin. That dish was honestly one of the best dishes I have had at a Chinese restaurant. Everything I are was delicious and I would definitely come back. The green beans I ordered – ON POINT. The Dan Dan noodles – great. The wonton soup – great. The spicy chicken dish my friend ordered – great! All of it was delicious, fresh, and mouth watering. And the prices were reasonable.

    I will definitely be back!

  5. Came here the second time this week and had a better experience than the last!! It would be right to say that we learnt from our past mistake and ordered the diced fish in spicy sauce instead of the string beans. We re ordered the kung pao chicken which is stellar and just for the sake of variety, we ordered the stir fry chinese broccoli instead of the bok choy. This place is very approachable from my house but what s even better is how quick the service is!! In fact it s too efficient.. So much so that we ordered soup and even before we could take a couple of sips the main course reached our table. So thats is one thing that should be considered. Anyhow, all in all we had a fabulous experience and I ll be back again very soon 🙂

  6. I considered giving Grand Sichuan three stars, but finally settled on four in part because of the nice memories it evokes from my early days in the city.

Last night was the first time I had been back in years. In the midst of our St. Patrick's Day celebration, my friends and I decided that we were in the mood for dinner. Being that the restaurant was just blocks away from where we had been celebrating, and I knew it was good, we decided on dining here. We shared orders of the pork soup dumplings, the pork with garlic shoots, and the ma po tofu. The soup dumplings were small yet tasty, the pork would be better described as fatty bacon and was something that I wouldn't order again, and the ma po tofu was just right, prepared with minced pork, with a perfect amount of spice. We washed it all down with bottles of Tsingtao, and ended our meal with complimentary orange slices. Yum!

    I'm a fan!

  7. I came here tonight with some family friends, one of whom is originally from Kunming and the other from Heilongjiang. They know their Chinese food, and this place is their #1 go-to in Manhattan.
Given their level of expertise, I left the ordering to them, and I was not disappointed. Aside from the first dish, a soup involving pig's blood and intestines and the like which I chose to skip (but which everyone else loved), everything was amazing, from the rice (they ask if you want brown or white) to the tofu, pork dumplings, smoked duck, shrimp dumplings, and various veggie dishes. I definitely ate my fill, and loved the orange slices at the end. My pals enjoyed the Kung Fu Panda 3 fortune cookies immensely.
The service was exceptional as well.
I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because the bathroom was not clean and could definitely use more care in terms of cleaning and maintenance.
Everything else, however, was great. This is a cozy, well-lit little restaurant with a fantastic ambiance.

  8. Solid food at a decent price with a great waitstaff and clean, sleek decor. The wonton soup was excellent, as were the pork soup dumplings. The spare ribs and tea were OK. The sesame chicken and prawns in lobster sauce had a ton of sauce and chicken/shrimp and were tasty. The General Tso's chicken was tasty and saucy and filling too, but I ordered it spicy and it wasn't spicy at all.
