Grant St Cafe is in my town and I think l have probably only been to the bar, and that was years and years ago during the evening.
I decided to pop in for lunch this week to try the pizza and wings. Their thin pizza is only 5.95 from 11am-3pm weekdays and boy is it a deal! Fresh, nice size and tasty.
Wings came with celery and blue cheese. Wings were a decent size, received 7 of them and they were sauced perfectly and not very breaded.
Overall I was not wowed but will definitely return! I would like to try some other dishes. I like the decor. Very old school but well kept-not rundown. I like the fact that the bar is separated from the dining area so very family friendly on the dining section.
Returned for a second time. Kids menu and food not bad.
Chicken Alfredo- very tasty and fresh with lots of chicken and sauce- again… Tasty!
Fish and chips-not good at all. Tasteless fish and well-I did not enjoy but service was good.
Grant's is everything your local bar should be. Good food (get a bar pie!), awesome bartenders, fun crowd.. even the music is pretty spot on! They usually have some interesting and exciting craft beers. They also do tap takeovers which are really fun! This is one of only a few bars where the mixed drinks always come as doubles.. and I've never paid more than $6 or $7 for one. The bartenders are the kind of people who reward repeat customers, we've gotten plenty of free shots and beers. Definitely stop by if you're in the neighborhood!
My bestie loves this place, so I drove 35-40 minutes through tons of random side streets to find it, but I have to admit, it was a very cute and cozy little spot. We went in December so we got to witness "Santa's Little Workshop" as I called it. The place was decorated from head to toe in lights and decorations, which was actually really cute. It also has this ' homely like' feeling, just a cute quaint neighborhood bar. We went on a Tuesday and it was surprisingly crowded! There were no seats at the bar and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. When we finally sat down we stared at the fairly extensive draft beer menu before ordering a flight of 4 5oz pours. They do drink specials on every night and Tuesday was Abita Purple Haze and Laguintas Lager night so we ended up ordering those. My girl ordered some french onion soup which was delicious! The cheeses they use were quite tasty! We also ordered a bar pie which is $6 + cost of toppings. It's a thin crust pizza and was absolutely delicious!
It's a bit off the beaten path so to speak, but if you live locally, definitely check it out, the food was better than I thought and they have a good selection of beers and wine. Service was decent, waitress was a bit of an airhead and didn't know beer all that well, but everything else was good 🙂
Ah Grant Street Cafe…a bar/restaurant (not cafe) located on Grant Ave (not street)….I don't get it… anyway….
I want to give this place 5 stars for it's ridiculously good beer selection and tasty food however, the friendliness of the wait staff prevent me from doing so.
Bar staff have always been terrific, I sit at the bar no problems, it's when I sit at a table that service suffers. For such a townie bar/restaurant the table staff are at times unattentive and not personable. I'm not looking to make friends when I dine out but at least give me your name….I've yet to have a waiter or waitress (mostly waitress) say "Hi, I'm so and so" when sitting at a table. Attentiveness can also be a issue (ranging from utensils to extra napkins….). Don't get me wrong it's not bad just continually inconsistent (and the only reason for 4 not 5 stars).
Four nights a week they have food specials. Monday is burger night and they have a tasty burger. Tuesday is bar pie night (Their white pie is ridiculous and their eggplant parm pizza was also very yummy) . Wednesday is Mussels and Parm night (all thing parmigiano); do order the mussels they are delicious. And Thursday is Shrimp Night (I've been here on a Thursday but never ordered the shrimp). They have nightly specials and if they have the Prime Rib Sandwich DO ORDER IT. I'm not a Prime Rib guy but this sandwich is DELICIOUS and they ask you to what temp you want it!!!
Since I've been coming here they've have a Clown Shoes, Dogfish, New Belgium, and River Horse tap take overs. Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love (okay, I'm good) Love the tap selection here (Stone, Founders, Ballast Point, Lost Abbey, etc). Lots of local too(Brix City, Magnify, Carton, etc). They also fill growlers.
Forgot to mention the two sides. You walk in and are greated by two doors. Left side is the sit down restaurant (elegedly recently redecorated) you walk in and it looks like a grandparents dining room or living room. The door on the right leads to the bar area. The bar has tables and high tops. It is very pub looking with its beautiful wood bar and leg lamp?!?! Wait, leg lamp?!?!? Who cares it's amusing and hasn't lost it's, um, charm anyways, choose the right door (literally).
I haven't reached townie status yet here….but it will happen. Hands down my favorite restaurant in my new hood.
Looks like an "old man bar" on the outside; surprisingly decent food and daily dinner themes on the inside. Who knew?!
Pizza's good; mussels in both red or white sauces are delicious and the parm dinners are OK! Looking forward to trying some of their other specials.
Beer selection is decent too! Friends in the area and us have recently migrated from our usual spot in Cresskil to this somewhat less expensive, interesting find. We will dig in some more and report back.
