Had lunch here and it was not that great. I liked the option of having brown rice, but it was undercooked and hard in the center. The roast pork over rice was also a bit oiler than I would have liked. Very cheap though, with $6 lunch specials
It's been a few years now that I've lived in Brooklyn Heights, and the first few times I tried this place were just okay. Fast forward to the present, and I break down and try the Great Wall again. After all, it's just a block from my house. But, boy, I'm glad I did b/c this place has changed… for the better! Not sure what happened (new owner? new management? or what?), but the food was sooooo delicious and fresh! I had the chicken and broccoli meal, and the broccoli was super crispy and perfectly sautéed… and the white meat chicken was tender and succulent. Also really tasty was the egg roll that accompanied my meal. YUM!
By the way, the staff is über friendly. There appeared to be a well-dressed manager (owner?) supervising the cook staff and counter staff, and he was overly attentive, super nice, and very appreciative of my business. The counter staff girl was also very friendly and attentive. Oh, and I must also comment on the wait time for a to go order–it's super short, which is awesome!
Thank you Great Wall for all the changes! They are changes for the best, and I'll be back to visit you soon!
UHG, I can't win. I was super impressed with this place the first time I got it. The second time it was just OK. I got sesame chicken and it had no flavor and very odd pieces. I actually liked the free pint of sweet and sour chicken best…
I hardly ate any of my sesame chicken – it was just OK. Overall, I would probably order from here again, but just for the cheese wontons and sweet & sour chicken.
