Impressive! They serve good lunches here. I'm picky when it comes to Chinese food. I prefer authenticity the way it's cook at that original location or home country. I find most Chinese food is either too oily and too "MSG" but we know it's nothing like this at their original place. Hubby and I stopped here for a quick lunch on the way to Poconos. We ordered from the lunch menu. I ordered spicy Kung Pao shrimp and hubby ordered shrimp in lobster sauce. I got hot and sour soup for a starter and hubby had his wonton soup. Wasn't a fan of the soup because I know it has starch in it. I tried so I could explain about the taste. Try it while it's hot, once it cools down, put it away. It was ok. My Kung Pao shrimp was very good! They gave me large shrimp. Hubby's shrimp in lobster sauce was pretty good too. I tried everything and everything had the taste of "freshly made." They keep the place really well and clean, even the bathroom. The servers are mixed Asian & Caucasian. Glad to make a stop here. The bill was reasonable. The place was pretty crowded when we walked-in with some large group in the middle and a few small groups around it. I would come back again if I have craving for Kung Pao shrimp. "I like my shrimp spicy!"
I'm not exactly sure what everyone finds so spectacular about this place. They seem to be on par with all the other sushi places nearby.
Service was a little slow for a Friday night but I almost think this is standard for these kinds of Asian restaurants. Ordered dumplings and boneless spare ribs to start. I really liked the dumplings, they were sufficiently stuffed and the wrappers weren't overly doughy. The spare ribs were good as well. Among 3 people we shared the Route 208, Super Rainbow and West NYC all with brown rice. The best was the Route 208 hands down. The Super Rainbow was very bland and the West NYC was just okay. No doubts about the freshness of the fish/seafood but the rolls were just unimpressive.
I had read a few reviews of this place and decided that as a Fair Lawn resident, I had to check it out. I was definitely satisfied. My sister and I visited on a random weeknight for sushi so we ordered a few rolls to split. One of the rolls had asparagus in it, and I usually shy away from asparagus in my sushi because I feel like it's too much texture, but they really did a nice job with it here. It was just the right amount of crunch. I believe the roll also had jalapenos on it and they were very non-offensive (another concern I had prior to ordering). Overall, the sushi was very satisfying and I will definitely add it to my list of places to revisit.
This review is solely based on the Chinese food and no sushi… Ordered pepper steak lunch combo with pork fried rice. Not one complaint, fried rice was AMAZING! And the pepper steak was tender and had a great taste. And order of wings which were by far the best wings I had from a Chinese place, crisp flavorful and nice size. Sweet and sour chicken was crispy and not doughy at all. Veg lo mein was good but needed a little more flavor. The egg rolls and spring rolls were tasty and crisp. Overall this place is legit and will be ordering from here from now on. The only reason it's 4 star and not 5 was the price was a little on the high side for the quantity which you get. By no means is it expensive just could use a little more when paying premium on Chinese.
I have tried Green Dragon twice now for takeout and dine in. I could maybe understand 3 stars for a mediocre Asian restaurant such as this. However I had to call the BS on this 4 star nonsense.
The sushi is just okay. But in my opinion the spicy rolls have way to much mayo. If they improved their spicy mayo game I would be much more impressed. The 208 roll was pretty good though and I did enjoy the presentation. My main point here is that if you have tried any good sushi in the area or ever and compare it to Green Dragon, it is extremely hard to justify a 4 star average. As a sushi snob, I truly think they have some improvements that could be made here.
I have also tried a couple of their Chinese options which I found to be okay. Their triple seafood dish included fresh seafood but overly saucy. I also tried their dragon phoenix delight (general tso's chicken + shrimp + veggies). This sounded like a good dish in theory but I had requested it be extra spicy after the weak spice levels of my first visit. I was still unimpressed as it contained too much molassy sauce.
The servers were very nice though so props for that. I think a few minor tweaks will bring this up to 3 stars. I have trouble ever envisioning 4 stars here.
When I saw the lunch special price of 10.50 for three rolls and a soup or salad, I was not expecting the greatest quality sushi in the world, turns out I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi was excellent. I had a spicy salmon, eel avocado, and my staple the Philadelphia roll (aka the Jewish roll or bagels and lox roll). The spicy salmon was great, needed a little more heat, but the crunchy panko crumbs were a nice texture addition. The eel avocado was loaded with tons of eel, which is no normally what I find. The same goes for the Philadelphia, usually there is more cream cheese than salmon in the roll, it was the opposite here. I will be back to try some of their interesting special rolls, and I will definitely will be back for the cheap and Delicious lunch special.
Used to be that there were a plethora of sit down Chinese restaurants. In Fair Lawn alone I can remember 5 when I was a kid. The formula was always the same, sit down, get noodles, duck sauce & mustard. Order by name or number, eat, order leechee nuts or ice cream for dessert, get a fortune cookie, pay, leave. One was even visually indistinguishable from another. Same with the food. Then, sometime in the 90s they slowly began to go away, replaced by take outs that, once again, all followed a similar formula. Large counter with an open kitchen behind. White paper take out boxes, quarts of soup wrapped in plastic with twist ties and stapled paper bags.
Fortunately, for those of us who prefer to eat restaurant food in an actual restaurant, there's been a resurgence in sit downs. In Fair Lawn, Green Dragon emerged in the spot that used to house Dish and before that, The Brunch Club. Like many of their competitors they also offer sushi. Nostalgia aside, the formula seems to hearken back to days of old with noodles on the table, etc. The issue is that again, like many of their recent counterparts, their food is well, meh. While there is nothing wrong with it per se, I see no compelling reason, aside from the ambience, to eat here.
Last point is that there are very few better alternatives if you're looking for Chinese and want to eat out. Places like Tani in Glen Rock held out a bit of hope for awhile but lately their food has been taken down a few notches. So again, if anyone reading this is in the mood for decent Chinese at fair prices, Green Dragon may just fit the bill. And, while there are certainly better sushi places, if you're looking to stay local, you might want to give them a try. Just don't set your expectations too high.
Excellent Asian cuisine in a great location.
The sushi here is excellent. Very fresh, very well made and very tasty. Service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. I just moved to the area and needed a go-to sushi place, and this is it. Not to mention, some of their other dishes from the kitchen are also great. I've had the beef and broccoli, that was excellent. I've also had their sesame chicken, which was good, if not a bit over-seasoned/over-sauced.
I'd recommend for anyone to come here for great quality, great tasting Asian food.
