  1. We walked into Green Rancho after we attended an after party in Chelsea- a very boozy Visual AIDS event by the EDGE postcard art exhibition at The Luhring Augustine gallery.

We were greeted warmly by the staff and were seated promptly in the middle of the restaurant. The space was modest in size, but they still managed to have room for a full bar that served cocktails and some original concoctions towards the right hand side of the restaurant. The ambiance was festive and warm, but a little bit dark for a Nyctophobia.

The restaurant manager came to our table and welcomed us with a complementary guacamole and nachos, and again a shot of tequila for everyone when we asked for the check. +1 star for that special personal touch!

The frozen margaritas suited perfectly well with guacamole and nachos, which made them great dinner starters.

For my main entrée, I chose steak and chicken fajitas served with tortillas, Mexican yellow rice and beans and some garnishes. It was sizzling hot when it was served to me. My friends had a Rancho burger and traditional pollo mole that were equally delicious and plated nicely (I stole a few bites!) I will definitely consider coming back here whenever I crave for Mexican cuisine.

  2. ***Decent and Convenient Mexican Restaurant***

Chicken mole burrito did not have the tastiest mole sauce. Was also meager in size…when I go to a sit-down restaurant and order a burrito, I expect a sizable entree…this was even smaller than Chipotle. It would have been better complemented with beans and rice instead of shredded lettuce. Nevertheless, it was still pretty good.

Sangria is on the sweeter side but still pretty good and relatively cheap during happy hour (5-7p) if you're eating early. Makes this place a decent option if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a convenient, casual early dinner.

Pros: Relatively affordable and easy to snag a table without reservations in HK.

Cons: You can do better in the 'hood food wise.

FINAL VERDICT: Not bad as a Plan B or casual spot but there's better food nearby.

  3. Green Rancho was good and convenient, but nothing extraordinary. We ordered the happy hour nachos (very small but tasty), the steak fajita (this was good), the chips and guacamole (average) and the fish tacos (bland). Despite the happy hour drink specials, our meal came out to way more than we anticipated. I found the food to be quite pricey, especially considering the size of the portions. The staff was friendly and the service was efficient. I probably will not return because there are tastier and less expensive restaurants that cater to the same cuisine in the area.

  4. $5 margaritas for happy hour! Of course you will find me here.  There coconut margarita is on point.  I've been to places were the coconut just doesn't taste quite right, but this place is definitely not one of those.

I had finger food here too, the nachos for $5 which was decent, but nothing great.  The flautas was tasty, but a bit on the chewy side I prefer it crunchy.  However, I truly enjoyed their home made fries , I dip it in ranch and I am in heaven.

You'll be seeing me here for happy hour.

  5. Actually SUPER SURPRISED at this spot.
I pass it all the time whenever I've been in Hells Kitchen and never really thought about it. I mean, there are like a billion Tex-Mex spots in the city. You literally cannot walk a block without tripping over one.
We came here the other night after work. The seating was comfy and spacious and the server was super nice. He always came over to check on us and even made some fun jokes while we were trying to figure out what we wanted to eat over the GROWLINGS of our tummys.

We split the Homemade Guacamole. I'm kinda of a Guac- snob. Some places made it with crap ingredients, some places skip on main ingredients. While this place's was a little bland by my standards it was actually yummy. I almost ate the whole thing. SORRY TWIN!!!

We also had the Chipotle Spicy Shrimp & the Marinated Grilled Skirt Steak. Both were very good but I'll concentrate on the steak. It was probably the best I've had in a Mexican spot. It was freshly cooked (so many spots reheat then its like eating a handbag instead of a steak), and tenderrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Plus I asked that it be served still moo-ing at me so it was all medium and pretty.

We were soo stuffed but we definitely wanted a desert. I was told the "tres leches" was pretty good so we tried dto ask for that. Now I've HHAD SOME PRETTY SPECTULAR tres leches in my time. Once I was taken by someone I used to know in the Heights to this little "viejita" on the corner of St. Nicholas thatt made them from scratch every morning. Pretty on-point.
Anywho, the server told us that the only thing they had similar was Breadpudding. We had never had it so we asked for it. It was the prefect end to the meal. Nice and warm and soft and served with Vanilla icecream and whippedcream on the side.

Roll me out the door I CAN'T MOVE!

  6. A very mediocre Mexican restaurant trying to be a High End Tapas Bar.
The food is not great but not bad either. The prices are ridiculously high for the equally ridiculously low quantity for instant $14 for FOUR stuffed Jalapeno i kid you not FOUR. $20 for Jack and Coke No S***T.
I get it they are located in Hell's Kitchen but they not worth its.

  7. The taco combo (served with rice and beans) were tasty.

    I loved the HH menu.

The service was ideal: they follow-up, checked in, even when they got busy (do you ever notice when waiters and waitress tend to "forgot" about you when it gets busy? It happens all the time.

I really liked coming here after work and some place end up being really packed, can't get you in. We got a spot in the bar and wasn't bothered, it didn't get too packed and overall we enjoyed ourselves.

the food was properly placed on the plate and I think this places was ideal. Will we ever go back. I don't know if it was that good, but its a great spot to try if your in the area.

TIP: Carnitas are always a hit or miss.

I've been to places and I get the fat sometimes. I don't know if the chefs are paying attention when placing in the tortilla, but my friend got a fatty one. Which means you can't eat it, It's a waste, and I never feel right saying something about it.

Any who I suggests to get the carnitas BC its tasty, but maybe if one is fatty then you say something otherwise get the chicken and steak. I enjoyed it very much so…

  8. Only stayed for hand made margarita with salt and happy nachos. I think nachos are smaller than during regular hours but still good. Really friendly staff and atmosphere is friendly and relaxing.  Happy hour drew a crowd so I guess others happy too!
