  1. I really enjoyed a stop at this coffee shop. Of course I couldnt go to a Starbucks since I can get it back in Houston. The baristas were friendly and knowledgable of their drinks, as well in the halloween spirit. I went for their red eye with is a coffee with a shot of espresso. It was very smooth and tasty. The atmosphere was calm and inviting to sit a moment and have a drink.

  2. Thinking of how to describe Gregory's and the first thing that comes to mind is Starbucks on steroids.

The menu offers the standard drinks similar to a Starbucks but the quality of the coffee and pastries is just slightly better than Starbucks hence the steroids.

It's located in a busy area but the baristas are surprising nice given the demand and you can get in and out pretty quickly. From my experience it appears that the establishment is run well.

  3. Excellent service and trumps starbucks in all categories, on any day.

  4. The coffee not bad, but the crossaint, borderline rock.  I guess when you are use to eating fresh french baked – buttered crossaints every other crossaint is going to be strongly scrutinized.   I'll def go back for coffee.

  5. I come here for the same thing usually…a slice of banana bread. Today I wanted to be different and I tried the caramel latte, which was just so perfect! The staff here is so friendly. The only time they let me down is obviously when they don't have that banana bread for me.

This place is always clean, fast, friendly and satisfying.

  6. Gregory himself got in touch with me to right the wrong I had last time.

This time, I got the correct coffee–the Ethiopia–and it was brewed via Aeropress. I still hold that it's an inferior way to make coffee compared to a pourover, but whatever.

The coffee was excellent! Staff was great, and everyone was super nice.

I still have a couple gripes, though…although I'll be back again: if you want to buy beans, none of the Gregory's branded beans have dates on them. That's a HUGE no-no, because you have no idea when it was roasted.

An 8oz single origin cup runs you about $3.50. That should be the cost of 12oz–a la cafe Pedlar.

Other than that, they were great! I want bigger coffees. No, it's no Blue Bottle or Stumptown, but in the quality-strapped Financial District? It's perfect.

  7. I like Gregory's and I'm bald to see them spreading in FIDI.  The coffee was made perfectly and too my liking.  My pet peeve is to not fill it up to the top if I asks for it black.  They nailed it every time.  It's not hard to do but it makes me come back.  I didn't partake of the pastry selections but they looked nice.  Service is fast which is a major plus.  Thanks Jane Q for mentioning Level Up which I missed last time I was here.  Employees were very friendly and no Starbucks level nonsense.  I am making this a regular stop when I'm over that way.

  8. I had had my eye on this newest location for the past few weeks.  I finally decided to try it out when 1)I needed caffeine and 2) everyone kept saying how great Gregory's is.  So I went in and was shocked by how small it is.  I quickly shrugged it off because I was grabbing and going but keep in mind, this is not a sit down coffee establishment.  There are three itty-bitty tables and a long counter, that's it.

After figuring out that you order at the cashier, I ordered an iced coffee which if broken down is cold-brewed coffee over ice.  I asked if they had soy milk, they do, but you pour it in yourself.  That's fine, gives me more control.  $4 for a medium coffee and a glazed donut.  Not too bad considering the area.  I put my soy milk in, popped a straw in the top, and walked back to my office.  As others have said, the coffee tasted old.  Not bad per se, just old.  Almost like it had been sitting out for a long time prior to being served.  It was okay but not strong enough for my liking.  The glazed donut, however, was perfection.  Flaky, light, and not too sweet.  Everyone here was also pleasant but I noticed the baristas were taking a while to make the hot drinks.  I would come here again for the pastries but I'll pass on the coffee.
