– 1 Star from my previous review. Before being transferred down south (Robbinsville) for my job I needed some last meals in Hillside. GCP as we call it was on the list. I normally only like to eat here when it's cold out. The food is hardy and rib sticking so I feel like it is best on those cold days in the hood. I ordered the classic meal… Palace Chicken over rice w/ extra white sauce. The sauce is awesome…the chicken… just didn't have the extra something I used to taste. It used to be more aggressively seasoned and just had a flavor that was next level. It's on the more expensive end of lunch so I would appreciate some consistency. If in the area again I will return and re- update.
This place is the truth….. yes siiiiiiir….. This is a take out joint…. The menu is AMAZING…. AMAZING is not even the word…
Since I've been frequenting Jersey because of my job etc… I am always looking for the next best place to get some food…. So here I go scouring through yelp and I came across this spot… granted it is in the hood…. but the hood I will go for some goooooooooood food… and that I did…
I walked in and told the Lady in the front this is my first time….. she said ok…. well we give a tasting for all first timers….. well dayum this place gets 5 stars just for that…
I sampled all their favorites and it was DELICIOUS….. Now I am wishing they were in Brooklyn but its alright they are on my way back home on the Garden State….
I ordered the sexy sea salad…. that is Grilled Tilapia Shrimp corn rice cheese over a bed of Lettuce and Tomatoes….. Sexy Sea Salad is right…..
It was delicious…….. !
I love this place! Great take out service. New customers can sample, and regular customers can sample something new or something they are unsure about. I never had anything on their regular menu, but I have tried many specials. I would call in and ask for what specials are for the day. They offer specials from soul food, west indian food, and some great chicken and seafood concoctions. They honey garlic wings, rice and peas, and anything with beef are my favorites. I never had a bad meal. Everything always exceeds my expectationas. Everything is so fresh, with perfect blend of seasoning. Even the cakes, and ice teas are delish. This is a place you can easily find yourself coming back to over and over again! I been on a hiatis because everything was going to my gut! Overall, spot is a must try. Great place to have in mind when you want a good filling meal, but don't feel like cooking or dining out.
I'm the type of person who doesn't mind traveling far to eat good food, whether it's at a full service restaurant, a grease truck, or a small neighborhood eatery like the Grilled Chicken Palace. Little traveling is needed as this little gem is not that far from me.
Palace Chicken Combo (Mango Chicken + Palace Chop Chicken w/ White Sauce + Salad All Over Rice) ($18….) (A-): I never order "sweet entrees," but the mango chicken (with real slices of mango) was one of my favorite items today. It goes well with the yellow rice and isn't too sweet. The grilled chicken with white sauce was a must have for me; the white sauce is light and herby, while the chicken itself was well seasoned. The slaw consisting of squash, cucumber, cabbage, broccoli, and carrots had a peppery kick to it. More importantly, the vegetables were crispy and fresh. We also ordered the special (Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Stirred w/ Vegetables ($8.95)), which was similar but with teriyaki instead.
Corn Bread Muffin (A+) ($0.60): Let me say it now…this was–hands down–the best corn bread muffin I've ever had. It's perfectly moist, slightly sweet, and has real corn in each bite! The half that the owner let us try was all I needed to buy two for the road.
Service (A+): No amount of stars or a letter grade can show how friendly everyone here is–from the owner to even other customers, this little eatery will make you feel welcomed. It isn't just the many free samples the owner gives out. She's friendly, inviting, and really wants you to try her cooking. The portions were great with the takeout aluminum pan and take out box being filled to the top.
It's not fancy, but this places serves a variety of dishes that you would expect to order at a full service restaurant. There are a few stools and a corner bar table for you to eat in, but for the most part, it's a takeout type of place. Even though parking is a bit tough, I'm coming back for more, especially for the seafood dishes.
Place has very good eats. Everything is flavorful. I've never been to a place where they offer you free samples if you're new or if you're tryin Gn something that you are unsure of getting. The only thing that I dislike is that they, like most places, use dark meet for their special chicken items, however try have whole pieces of white meet selection as well. I will cottoned to go to this place for take out as their food is always a delight to eat.
I found the food to be a bit oily. I ordered the Tilapia/shrimp with yellow rice. The fish seemed fresh. The shrimp were baby shrimp, frozen. It was in a butter garlic sauce that seemed more oil than anything else. Left an aftertaste in my mouth. I would not go back.
