Much smaller than Garden City's location, but it's a cute little place that makes it more intimate/cozy. It's in Fairway's parking lot and kinda hidden so may be hard to find, but I'm happy it's next to Fairway as a place to eat before we commit to the dreadful chore that is food shopping if we so choose. I found it funny they actually have a section at the bottom of their menu regarding no delivery, no credit cards, no slices…. what is this, no everything?!?! But at least they're upfront about it. I disliked that they don't have pre-made pizza combo choices (i.e. buffalo chicken, bbq pizza, etc) and rather it's a make-your-own pizza menu- but this is because when I'm hungry I just want to pick one quick and order, not get creative! But they have such a variety of toppings that you really can't go wrong, and for the price you DEFINITELY can't go wrong. We got meatball, sundried tomatoes and it comes with tomato sauce+mooz cheese- I highly recommend this combo! The two of us got a large pie and our check was like 20$, which we had leftovers for the next day. Something I've never seen before that was a nice touch was rather than giving you leftovers in a pizza box, they individually wrap each slice in aluminum foil so you can put them right in your fridge when you get back. They got bonus points from me for that one. Great pizza and cute atmosphere— just wish they delivered!!
My one experience at Grimaldi's was pretty good.. I came for an early dinner with my parents, and we shared a pie, half cheese, half mushroom. Not bad! Nice and hot, fresh outta the oven. Family-style, thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients! They could've added a little more mushroom though, but overall, pizza was on point! By the end of dinner..I had devoured 6 slices on my own..crust and all. If I was REALLY hungry.. No doubt I would be able to finish a pie..loll I wanna come back next time and try more of their toppings!
Cash only. Pies only – no slices. No problem! You definitely can put down a whole pie with no problem. The brick oven pizza here is amazing and the toppings here are worth the extra $2. They really lay it on. The salads are great too.
Upscale pizzeria with a cute decor. You will feel like you are sitting in an old pizza parlor under the Brooklyn Bridge.
Be on the look out for the coupons in the Valpak that gets delivered monthly. Buy one pie, get one free!
Great friggin pizza. No doubt about it. I've been to the original Grimaldi's in Brooklyn Heights a few times. I've always disliked the line and wait time but the pizza was always on point. Crunchy thin crust brick oven pizza topped with fresh slices of mozzarella and basil. This one in Douglaston is no different. Same perfection you'll get from the one in Brooklyn.
Besides the pizza, we also ordered their fresh mozzarella with sliced tomatoes. It was really good with their vinegar. What I really enjoyed was dipping the crust of the pizza in some of their vinegar. Their crust is almost like a cracker. With a light touch of vinegar, it's goes really well together.
Verdict – What is there not to like about Grimaldi's? They don't accept credit card, still cash only. Other than that, this location is great. The parking lot is a godsend! I could never find a parking spot in Brooklyn Heights! The alternate side parking hours over there are INSANE! From now on, I'm sticking with this one in Douglaston.
This is definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I ordered a regular with pepperoni and it was perfect. It had just the right amount of cheese, tomato sauce, and thick pepperoni. Forget all the other pizza places, next time I need a pie I'm coming here!
Remember, cash only and pies only (no slices).
This Grimaldi's is based on the one under the Brooklyn bridge, obviously this isn't the same but that's not necessarily a bad thing since you won't have to deal with huge lines here, an important thing to note is that this place is cash only and there are no slices sold here, it is a nice spacious restaurant with plenty of seating and nice ambiance, the pizza itself is really tasty, one small salad and one small pizza can feed two people, this is great place to come to where you can get a good quality brick oven in a casual setting, I have been here several times and I'll be back
Cash only! Dine in or order out. There's an ATM in front of their door if you're short on cash or visit the BOA atm branch next door.
Ample seating area and a large parking lot outside the mall area.
Service is pretty attentive and quick. When ordering out, there's small waiting area by the kitchen with chairs while waiting for your order.
Regular pies are around $15, and toppings cost usually $2 or $4 depending on what you get.
Takes about 15 – 20 minutes for the pizza to be done.
Just like in Brooklyn, the original spot, this location uses a cheap round cardboard where your pizza sits on-top and into a paper bag sleeve when you order to go. I don't really have any complaints since the pizza is still intact after a voyage in the car.
Pizza is nice and crispy, thin, and cooked perfectly.
One star off for only accepting cash, no deliveries, and no credit cards! cmon, I want to at least rack some credit card points while dining out…and its 2015! Get with the times already…unless they got some undocumented workers and cash is used to pay under the table or skip on some taxes…then I might understand.
A popular pizza chain that doesn't have atrocious long lines and wait times? I'm sold! I heard a lot about Grimaldi's and had no idea this location existed till a friend took us here. It's great that we didn't have a ridiculous wait like other locations. Would I wait one hour for this pizza? Unless I have a dire need to have it, then no. The staff is friendly here and was very accommodating to our table requests. The restaurant layout is awkward so I feel for anyone who has to sit at the tables near the door.
We ordered the caprese salad, large pizza pie with pepperoni and onions and another large pie with Italian sausage and mushrooms. For four adults and two children, this was the perfect amount of food! The pizza, surprisingly, didn't feel heavy and we could actually have more than two slices! It's more on the side of a thin crust pizza. It's freshly baked, straight out of the oven, and already comes topped with fresh mozzarella and basil. The salad was fine and well seasoned/dressed. I wasn't crazy about the Italian sausage and mushroom pizza – it lacked flavor. I think I noticed that more because I had the pepperoni and onion slice first and that was delicious! SO much flavor and great pairing. Pricing isn't bad for a popular chain. Three orders of food and drinks were still around $60.
Would I come back? Sure. If I'm craving a specific pizza with delicious pepperoni and onions, this is the spot.
