Oh my gosh, so delicious! Even though the line was 10 people deep I only waited about 7 minutes or so to get my gelato. I ordered a medium but didn't realize it came with 3 flavor choices and I only chose 2 by accident. I had the pistachio and the chocolate, both were very good. I also took a bite of my friend's hazelnut scoop and I would love yo have more of that next time. I will so totally be back.
Great ice cream place of Italian origin. I give it 4 out of 5 stars only because I have the feeling the ice cream is sweeter than in their Italian shops. I guess they try to adopt to the American taste. Tip: Take the small portion. It's more than enough and you can get two flavours.
Grom's gelato doesn't come cheap, but it's guaranteed to meet high standards, not just in terms of taste, but quality as well. The founders pride themselves on the fact that their products are completely natural; the gelato's lack of artificial flavors and preservatives helps justify the premium that customers pay for their dessert.
I've tried three flavors so far: mint chocolate chip, nocciola, and caffè espresso. Although mint chocolate chip doesn't exactly scream "classic Italian gelato," it's refreshing and the mint blends well with the chocolate pieces sprinkled throughout.
Made with Guatemalan coffee, the caffè espresso is strong. I've had coffee-based gelato and ice cream in the past that's been far more focused on the sweetness factor, without much attention paid to the actual coffee beans. Grom's version is different. It's intense, and tastes just like a shot of espresso.
Last but certainly not least, the nocciola (with Tonda Gentile hazelnuts) is my favorite. Smooth, nutty, and slightly bitter, it has all the makings of an ideal hazelnut frozen treat. The nocciola alongside the caffè espresso is an extraordinary combination, and will definitely be my go-to selection in the future!
The gelato called! We had dinner nearby at Marea's (good Italian seafood and service) and decided to skip the dessert there to get gelato. The line was out the door however it moved quickly and before we knew it, yummy gelato was in our hands.
I had the yogurt and raspberries with almonds and the crema do grom that had nuts and cookie pieces. I tried a friends raspberry sorbet and chocolate. They were all smooth and flavorful. The raspberry ones were the best. The four stars is from comparison to some unreal gelato I had in italy. The strength of flavor is driving this 4 star rating. Dial it up a notch and I'll give them a 5.
Not impressed.
If I had this and no other gelato in the city I would likely be very happy with it but with so many options of delicious treat, gelato and otherwise, it simply doesn't compare.
This location doesn't have many flavors. It has the basics: coffee, chocolate caramel. The something about it is a bit bland. You don't eat and say "wow, that was awesome." The specialty flavors like tiramisu also don't taste very much like the flavor. The ingredient are very minimal and flavor is subtle
They also only let you have two tastings 🙁
I stopped in one day when I was really craving ice cream. I'm not sure what to even say about this place.
For one, I think it's way overpriced, even for Manhattan. Second, it wasn't great. I'm not sure how gelato can even be bland, but this defintiely was.
This was our first visit. There was a short line, approximately eight people in front of us. The store itself is small, but it is clean, nicely decorated, and well-lit.
They have many flavors and it can be difficult to choose — but it's OK because you get two free samples! 🙂
The flavor of the month (July) was a "cheesecake" made with mascarpone cheese. I didn't try it but it looked great!
They have gelato, sorbet, shakes, and Sicilian granitas (a 'snow cone' with flavored syrup).
According to the 'about us' on the wall, they use fresh, organic ingredients — some grown on their own farm in Italy.
I went with my usual — espresso gelato. It was delicious! Rich and creamy.
They have toppings — including fresh whipped cream.
It's slightly expensive (about $6.25 for a medium) but you're in Manhattan so you have to expect that.
If you're in the area and you're craving something sweet, definitely visit GROM!! 🙂
The line moves fast. It's all tourists here. It's so so and overrated. I think it's too sweet and it's more like icecream than gelato. Around $5.25. for the smallest size with two scoops. I think I would prefer freeze from pressed juciery.
