  1. The food here was good, I ordered the apple butter special, ambiance was nice although the place as rather small. However, I felt the staff was a bit pretentious and food or latte was not much of a "wow" factor. Also I did not like the set up where you're standing around waiting for your food, I felt it was very disorderly and stressful. The prices were okay though. Overall, this place was just okay, I wouldn't necessarily come back.

  2. Hidden on a quiet block of Jane St, you really have to know this place exists to find it (you'll rarely ever find tourists here).  This place is one of the few coffee places in New York designed to actually allow patrons to get work done, with a massive seating area (mostly an assortment of couches and chairs) decorated with a maze of indoor plants and a sizable skylight.  The drink menu is quite diverse (ranging from honey vanilla lattes, to Japanese teas, to iced cappuccinos), with a simple but satisfying sandwich menu to keep you fueled while you work.  The service is usually friendly, but they (understandably) tend to kick people out after 90 minutes or so during prime hours. The WiFi is free.

All in all, a great place to get work done in a public seating, with a great drink/food menu to keep you at your best.

  3. An amazing discovery during my run in west village! I usually settle myself with a small cup of Americano however I cannot help but to order the signature honey bee latte here!

Oh my, it was so smooth and hearty! Sitting inside its rain-forest like tea house with a cup of latte in hand was like spending the day inside a national park – I wish I could stay here forever.

Unfortunately during their busy hours, there's a 90 minutes time limit – now I can tell how busy they are during the day…

    Once again #honeybee

  4. Grounded is an independent coffee shop with plenty of seats, a down to earth vibe, and a solid espresso. With a gigantic menu of teas, coffees, flavored lattes, smoothies, sandwiches, and pastries, it has something to please everyone. Your requests for soy, agave, coconut, whole, skim,  honey, etc are happily available and I love that everything is actually served in a mug or glass or plate if you're staying in. The tea selection is awesome and well curated.

I ordered a honey bee latte, which adds raw honey to a silky smooth yet potent espresso and a lovely velvet foam. It was sweet without being cloying and just the right size. I also ordered the oatmeal, which had big chucks of apple and was pretty hearty. The oatmeal was filling and was not watery. As I left, I couldn't resist trying another menu item and ordered a black tea rose latte, which was amazing – smooth creamy milk and foam, a distinct tea and rose flavor, and just enough sweet to make it decadent but not overwhelm the tea. Major major kudos to the baristas – you are awesome at your jobs.

Grounded has a mix of two tops, four tops, and bar seating, with a square of couches in the middle – I'm guessing it can seat 35, so larger than most coffee shops, but depending on time of day may be a bit crowded feeling. I didn't count the outlets, but going by how many people were there with laptops for over an hour, I'm assuming there are enough. The majority of tables are two tops – that being said, its busy enough here that if you're alone you should be nice and sit at the bar. Grounded is popular with locals, with a steady stream of regulars chatting up the baristas. They have a clean bathroom and wi-fi, just look around for the signs with the password. It is wonderful for a study date, casual business meeting, a quick catch up with friends, or some caffeine fueled meditation.

Prices are Manhattan and justified. A latte will run you $5, so don't bring your cheap friends or people who swear by Dunkin' – the coffee, space, and quality are all worth it and designed so you pay for your time occupying their space.

  5. I have to admit: I did not expect an oasis of natural light and cool ambiance as I walked into Grounded but Grounded is just that. It's a chill spot that was full of people super focused on their laptops, on a Saturday early afternoon. So though Grounded has a coffee house look, it certainly is not a coffee house and I felt odd I wasn't on a laptop working away… on a Saturday! Strange.
But needless to say I was still intrigued by the ambiance and will recommend it for a cool catch-up date with a friend or loverrrrrrr, if you're able to snag a seat for two.

They have a unique list of "specialty lattes" and I felt like living life on the edge so I went for their honey nut latte (espresso, hazelnut, & cinnamon). It tasted just like honey nut cheerios which was simultaneously tasty and odd but it certainly satisfied my dessert/coffee craving. I tried my friend's iced coffee and wasn't really impressed with the taste. Is it better than sbux? Oh, absolutely! But is it the best? Not really.

Overall this spot is cool to grab coffee and hang out (with a laptop) or to chat (quietly) with a friend.

  6. Location:
Grounded is an independent coffee shop. It does have some west village characteristics – hippie but cultural. It is always packed if you are there after 11am on weekends. The inside is very down to earth, a sofa with several tables for dining or simply drinking their coffees. And the best part is that they have a bookshelf that you can find something to read if you do not bring your computer with you.

Food: they offer variety of teas, coffee, and even food. Take your brunch partner with you! I like their coffee, because it is strong.

Service: this is definitely a neighborhood coffee shop because it looked like their staffs know their regulars so well that they spend time chatting with each other while I was impatiently waiting since I have work to do. I knew that I would be rude to rush or even end their conversation, so I did not do it. But they seem to disregard me and continue talking for a while.
I mean usually a short conversation which is 3 minutes would be okay but 8 mins and just hung me there waiting. Nope, unacceptable.

This is New York, everything snaps, runs fast.
So, pick up your speed and do your business fast.

    3 stars.

  7. Every time I come to Grounded, I get that feeling of coming home after a long day and just wanting to unwind. This homey coffee shop is very much a place of relaxation. In addition to their inventive espresso drinks and delicious teas, they have a wide assortment of pastry options…all set in a gorgeously decorated space with lots of greenery and natural light, couches, lounge chairs, books, etc.

It's usually pretty crowded, with most people doing work or reading, so it may be hard to find a spot. At the very least, Grounded is worth a visit if you're in the Village.

  8. Just an update. Same awesome review two years later. Do you have "that" place in whatever city your visiting, you will remember and come back to if you visit again? This is that place for me. Super relaxed atmosphere, clean. And the honey bee is beyond compare. I tried making it at home, ordering what would be comparable in other cities… Nope. Can't do it. Next time I'm in NYC I need to stay closer to this place for my honey bee fix! I thinks it's a combination of the honey.. Maybe a woodsy taste? not overly sweet with whatever coffee they use… Smooth, not bitter. Yum yum!!!
