Growlers Beer Bistro

“I started with a beer flight of 5 beers, mostly ale and amber but with one darker brew.”
“The food is always delicious (I highly recommend the pretzel bread & the smoked chicken sandwich), the staff is wonderful and they have one of the best beer lists around.”

Was excited to come here after reading all the great reviews about this place, but had a mediocre time at best.
My boyfriend and I wanted to stop by looking for a casual setting with beers and appetizer fun. We asked to sit outside.. nice and quiet and great ambiance.. but then didn't hear from a waitress for at least 15 minutes.
Eventually, we ordered our drinks (nice, extensive list) along with a plate of regular nachos and surprise..both the beer and the food came out together 20 minutes later. The plate was a disservice to nachos! The chips were burnt, the cheese wasn't even fully melted, and the amount of oil on the plate was enough to start my car.
As if my comment on service wasn't enough– you guessed it.. getting the waitress' attention to get the check was another challenge on it's own.
Poor service + crap nachos … I don't want to discount anything else on their menu, but the chances of me coming here again are slim.
Very good spot next to the Tuckahoe train station in Yonkers. They have a very nice selection of beer on their menu. The brisket burger with Growler fries was delicious the brisket had a bbq flavor and my burger was cook medium well just as I asked it to be. The Grolwer fries were delicious they had parmesean cheese, garlic and bacon bits on top of it. Along with the main course my family ordered Artichoke dip which came recommended from a friend of the family and it was amazing. This is a nice spot to grab some beers and enjoy some great unhealthy food while waiting for your train if you're heading into the city.
Mmm. So glad I happened to be in the area and simultaneously found a Groupon. $19 for a beer flight and $25 worth of food–great deal.
Beer flight: We got to pick 5 samples, and it looked like they were about 5oz each. Wish they had more non-IPA choices, but still pretty yummy.
Food: Got the hush puppies. I'm not a huge fan in general, but these had jalapeños and chipotle mayo and some other stuff that made them super tasty. Also had the smoked chicken plate, which came with 2 sides. The chicken was seriously smoky and juicy and delicious. Mac n cheese, yum; Growler fries (Parmesan cheese & bacon galore), also yum. Def enough food for 2 people.
Didn't give a 5th star because I dunno if I would come back without a Groupon. But overall, delicious and worth it.
Do you love beer? Yeah? AWESOME!
How about sports? You watch them regularly? NICE!
And what about delicious, unique food? Your mouth is watering? PERFECT
You're ready for Growlers, a beer haven that happens to also be a pretty fan-freaking-tastic bistro. With dishes like the Devil on Horseback (blue cheese stuffed prunes wrapped in bacon), Hush Puppies (served with jalapeño slices and chipotle mayo), Growler fries (bacon, parmesan, garlic … need I say more?) and the Smoked Chicken Sandwich (with melted pepper jack cheese, roasted red pepper mayo, avocado, tomato and spinach on pretzel bread) … anyway, there's something on that menu for EVERYONE.
My brother met his wife there at a pretty epic Oktoberfest, and Growler's regularly hosts live bands, trivia nights, Ladies Night, and a bunch of other events. If your Friday night is looking uneventful it's the perfect place for a fun, low-key night out. Can't get enough? Come back on Saturday or Sunday morning for brunch 🙂
A great place for dinner with friends. The location is very convenient for after-work meetups since I just have to cross the street after getting off the train. It's not a very big place, so you might have to wait a bit on a Friday/Saturday.
Staff has been very nice and friendly the times I've visited. Last time, the waitress offered to bring us free samples of a beer we were considering ordering. It's little things like that that make for great service in my opinion. Food is standard – burgers, salads, etc. It's good, but nothing out of this world.
I'm so sincerely in love with this place!
I can't really remember how I ended up here, but the BF and I found ourselves in Tuckahoe which is a totally foreign town for us and decided on Growlers for a burger & beer. Off the bat, the bartender & waiters greeted us & we're really nice. The beer selection is really nice and our burgers were out of this world. The second time we came they let me order chili cheese fries, which is technically not on the menu but they threw it together for me anyway. They were so tasty. Now i'd happily go out of my way for this place. Two thumbs up, Growlers!
I came here on a Friday night when the bar was starting its swing for Memorial Day weekend. It's a very casual bar – a place for sports fans, dates, and families alike. My fiance and I were seated after five minutes. The table was pretty wobbly but we decided not to let it ruin our experience. The place is known for their beers but we didn't order any so I can't really comment on that. We ordered the corn fritters, veggie sandwich, and the veggie burger. The corn fritters were absolutely delicious, albeit a TINY bit dry. The spicy mayo that came with it was a good complement. It came with a slice of raw jalapeno on each fritter. Personally, as much as I love spicy food and [almost] any kind of pepper, I think they could do without the jalapeno. I wanted the fritter and the sauce to shine more but the spicy jalapeno completely overpowered the dish. For the last two fritters, I ended up removing the jalapeños so I could enjoy the fritters more. The veggie burger was effing scrumptious. It's SO hard to find a joint that does homemade veggie burgers well. Either the patties are frozen from the local grocery store and just thrown on grill to become semi-edible, or the patty is so poorly made that everything falls apart, or it just sucks as a whole, flavor wise. But Growlers do their veggie burgers well. The portion was huge so I could only eat half of it. My fiance got the veggie sandwich and he wasn't a fan of it. That's another type of sandwich restaurants tend to screw up. They put a lot of flavor and attention toward other dishes but their veggie dishes are usually lackluster in flavor. I believe that was the case for his sandwich but I'll let him tell you about that later. He also ordered the Snickers pie. He loved it. I wasn't a fan. It tasted remarkably like a Snickers bar but I hate Snickers so don't go based on my personal preference. The one negative is that their dessert options seem limited.
The bar was LOUD. Just be sure you are aware of that before coming by here. The place is spacious enough. There are a few televisions for those who need their sport fix and the service is super friendly. There is also plenty of parking. Depending on the time and day, you may have to pay but after 7 pm, it's free.
Overall, I would definitely come back.
Stopped here for a quick beer before going to a surprise party.
Its a small tight spot, but big on beer options.
Was very happy to see the "Walking Dead Martini" which introduced us to Rogue Dead Guy Bourbon. Love their beer didn't know they were making spirits to.
Only cons- we were they for a quick beer, they kept pushing us to eat when we had already said we were there for a quick beer and ordered a quick app. Also the staff was alittle off.
