  1. To be honest the QUALITY of the food at this place seriously needs to be rewarded with waaaaaaaay more than 5 stars.

For me it all started with the tacos. I live nearby, but I don't hang out in this neighborhood because I'm more of an L.I.C./Astoria/Manhattan/certain parts of Brooklyn kinda gal. But I walk by this place every single day. Literally EVERY SINGLE DAMN DAY. One day that $1 taco list got me, I went in assuming I'd be harassed – instead I was harassed by the amazing scent of grilling seasoned meat. 2 tacos later I was floating on cloud 9. Party in my mouth. Not feeling too full or that greasy, gross feeling one gets when eating a funky $1 pizza or something…

I've now been a customer for about 6 months, I've tried every taco ($2.50), taquito ($1), their steak and chicken burritos ($5.95 a pop) and so far this place has been so CONSISTENTLY amazing. The meat is seasoned, never dry, always packing their tacos to the BRIM, with fresh cilantro/meat (they accommodate my request for cheese, no onions and light sour cream) and don't skimp on ingredients (I'm looking at you Jackson Heights Mexican food trucks!).

This place offers real deal goodness at amazing prices and on top of that the staff is super cool! It also makes me laugh at night when the back part kinda turns into a Latin nightclub of sorts and guys are dressed up and girls are wearing tiny dresses/skirts. I've never been back there and frankly have no interest as to what lies back there. Also, after 9ish or so they have a BOUNCER. My favorite Queens taco place HAS A BOUNCER. He's a cool dude though and he knows I'm only in it for the tacos, lol.

Come here for tacos and burritos…and NEVER beer because they think that $6 for a CORONITA (not even a full size) is ok. It's not. Also, the young girl that bartends doesn't know how to make mix drinks so my ordering a vodka soda (could it get simpler?!) didn't go over so well.

Personally I think that is this place's only flaw. If they serves $3-5 well drinks and beer at a respectable price for the kind of establishment they are (I mean $1 tacos and $6 dollar mini-beers is just weird to me), then I'd be able to get wasted AND inhale their (did I mention amazing?!) tacos. But still, I don't care. I can drink anywhere – the tacos here are like CRACK. I've never even tried crack, but I don't need to. I live by Guadalajara de Noche {3.

  2. Nick Nolte opened this place up years ago. He called it "Guadalajara De Nolte", referring to the height of his fame, when he "ran the town" of Guadalajara in Mexico, including all prostitution rings, both male and female, but also – and most profitably – transgender pimping. Nolte then sold it to some of his former buddies from the Mexican underworld, who turned it into a sex shop named "Guadalajara De Naughty." That didn't last, because Queens people are all sexed out (partly because of me). So ultimately it became a taco place, and thus acquired its present name, since it is open very late.

What to get: Asada Tacos, very cheap
Or: Whatever you're in the mood for
What not to get: Crema-de-Nick-Nolte salsa. Too salty and old

To be short and sweet and to the point, like GDN is, their tacos are good. They won't change your life, but then neither will most NYC tacos. The price is excellent, the hours are excellent, and the salsas are nice and flavourful and spicy. The meat that actually goes on the tacos didn't do anything for me by itself (I always pick a bit off and try it alone to see what's up), and it was very basic, asada a little rubbery, no real flavour. The corn tacos and the salsas and cilantro are what makes these tacos enjoyable. So for this reason, I'll give it a 4 (which is an average rating for a taco place from me), rather than a 5 (which means – excellent tacos). I don't give family places less than a 3… especially not when they're as cheap and open as late as GDN is.

I've tried most of the tacos in NYC (okay, maybe less than one-tenth, but that's still a sh*tload of taco places), and this one is somewhere right in the middle of the pack. Because of the price, I'd definitely go back, but I prefer the taste of the meats at nearby (and similarly cheap) Suadero and Coatzingo.

And if you manage to do it round back behind this place, then we'll rename it "Guadalajara De Nookie" in your honour.

  3. Guadalajara De Noche is one sweet Taco spot. The Wife and I were hungry after attending The American Theatre this evening and wanted some cheap eats. We really were stalking and tracking down the Arepa Lady. Arepa Lady come out and play on Thursday nights. She was nowhere to be found and is lost for this night.

Walking down Roosevelt Ave you will find a plethora of Mexican and Central American food carts and restaurants. Every block and corner has some good comfort food at reasonable prices. I was in the mood for TACO. TACO. TACO.

I saw this sign for Taquitos al Pastor for one dollar. Taco Gods just tap me on the shoulder and told me to order some. We ordered 4 to go al Pastor. They were hot, moist, with sabor, tasty and by the way delicious. The marinate is the secret to a good Taco. If it is done right, the flavors come out during the cooking process with an end result of "great tasty Taco".

The Best Tacos are simple to assemble. Hot corn tortillas, meat, top with cilantro with sides of red or green sauce and limes. Then you add these flavor profiles and bingo "Taco Delight".

Guadalajara De Noche is a very good option for Tacos. I am on a quest to find good Tacos and Guadalajara De Noche is a home run.

  4. Quick delivery, friendly delivery person, al pastor tacos that actually had pineapple and thick chunky guacamole. Yum!

  5. I was really excited to try this place finally because I used to get super jealous when I would see either my friends Steph or Rich check in here without me because they live in Queens. And I would always hear, "BEST TACOS EVER, at like a $1 each. . . " But then it changed to a 3 for $5 deal. What if I don't want 3 tacos? What if I want 2 but at a super cheap deal? Anyway, since there were 4 of us there after the fantastic Golden Acrobatics show through Yelp, we decided to go halfsies on their 3 for 5 deal. Steph and her sister got the steak tacos and my friend and I got the spicy pork. There was white crème and some of that Mexican sprinkle cheese generously dabbled on top of a little mound of pork. It wasn't spicy. The meat was ok tasting, a little too ground up.

The guac I am not pleased with . . . at all. . . crickets. Steph loves it because it is not guacamole. It's something that came out of a bag. There are no chunks of guac in it. It's a runny thin liquid that you drizzle on your taco, a little salty, a little tangy. I'm guessing maybe vinegar is in it? But I don't like it. There was also a spicy sauce which I preferred much more and turned my pork actually spicy. I do appreciate their tortilla shells for the taco though. They taste and feel authentic and are really quite delicious.

The smoothie that I also got was fantastic because it wasn't heavy at all and mostly just thirst quenching. I have no idea what they make it with but it didn't taste like heavy ice cream and it definitely had fresh fruit in it. Get the mango! I hope this place turns itself around. I think they over-charge on some simple things – like beer. A bottle of Corona or Bud should not be $5, anywhere. Also, I needed a translator for almost everything. I speaka no Espanol. I get that it's a local spot though and totally appreciate the authenticity. Oh! Just in case you accidently stab yourself in the butt with a fork there is a handy dandy first-aid kit and cpr unit hanging above the tables.
