If you are looking for diner breakfast. The bacon is usually perfectly done. Eggs as ordered I just could use more water refills. My son says the pancakes are great and near his favorite. These are all serious things in breakfast. I have been here 7-10 times since it remodeled and reopened since it is next to my barber Consistent Quality diner on New Utrecht.
I came across Gus's American Grill on Yelp a couple of times and saw they had good reviews so I decided to come today to try it. It's a small dinning area with a couple of booths and tables and also a coffee bar that you can also sit at. Gus's is definitely a regular/neighborhood type place because the waitress seemed to know everyone who walked in. The menu has a nice amount of options to choose from and everyone's food coming out from the kitchen looked good.
I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and the garden salad with grilled chicken. The soup and salad were both equally as good as the other, the soup tasted like chicken noodle soup your mom would make. My boyfriend got the Grecian wrap which had grilled chicken with feta cheese and oil and vinager, he liked his food too. The food is good, but it's just basically good diner food and you can't really mess up grilled chicken and lettuce. Gus's is a good place for sure to come for breakfast/lunch, but I probably wouldn't for dinner. Oh and it's also cash only which is kind of inconvenient these days, but restaurants still do it.
Stopped by for a wrap as I was in the area in the morning. Average sized typical dinner-ish interior but it is a very lively place if that makes any sense.
I had Gyro Wrap which was pretty decent, and fries were good. Food serving time was quite fast if you cannot wait for your food for too long.
Friendly folks as well. Would recommend for a casual American brunch/lunch spot if you are around.

I got chicken fingers & fries with honey mustard…. It also came with a side of coleslaw & a pickle.
The waitress forgot my coleslaw so she brought it & gave us a couple extra pickles.I could tell the pickles were out of a jar. It wasn't a bad meal, since it was chicken and fries.
I was really looking forward to the coleslaw, but it came in the tiniest paper cup I've ever seen. It was one bite of coleslaw.
I had cheesecake for dessert; it was delicious. Diner cheesecake is always good.
I wouldn't mind trying something else here, but diners seem to always give a very average experience.
I have wanted to eat here on a Sunday but sadly they were closed, so the opportunity opened today and I was excited to try. My mom had challah french toast with a side of bacon and I had a Spartan omelet. It had bacon, feta and tomato. The portion was more than generous and it was yummy! Mom's french toast was burned and I was not crazy about it but my really liked it. The bacon is cooked excellently and 4 slices! I didn't like the coffee, it was weak. Stella the server was very kind and attentive. When I asked her, her name she said, there are 2 Stella's at this place. I wish I could distinguish her so she is the proper one recognized. (She seems like she has a Greek accent, if that helps) I would return for sure, but Sunday would be the most available day, too bad they are closed that day.
Cheap, fast, good American breakfast for those busy mornings. You can have a nice diner style meal without draining your wallet. If you come early enough, there will be free street parking otherwise it's still only .25 cents per fifteen. You won't get any extraordinary flavors or presentations, but you'll be ready for the day ahead with a full stomach and unlimited coffee. You can't go wrong with Gus'.
