The gyro sandwich is pretty good if you're hungrier than normal. I wouldn't exactly call it healthy. Actually, it's probably pretty damn unhealthy. It's not exactly cheap, but you get your money's worth and they take credit cards.
Work close by and decided to grab a greek salad, this place was recommended, typical walk-in and order fast food-ish. The dressing is a white greek, not the yogurt sauce, almost like a creamy greek – it is GREAT! I love greek food, and feel as though, living in NY, I have had my fair share….this is my new favorite spot for take-out salad…there is seating upstairs, and some in the back, bright florescent lights and kind of cafeteria-ish….no ambiance, but it serves its purpose.
Here are some of my observations of this gyro place:
-The gyro sandwich is overpriced at $8.50. It is a bit bigger than the smaller sandwiches most places sell for like $4 or $5, but not much bigger.
-It appears that the meat and pita breads sit around all day. I came here around 3pm and the meat was lukewarm and was starting to dry out. The pita bread looked like it had been grilled been earlier, and when I received it, it was lukewarm and had started to become rubbery.
-The white sauce they use here is not the normal thick tzatziki sauce. It is a watery salad dressing type sauce that tastes very sweet (sugar added perhaps). It tasted okay actually, but I think it is actually too sweet.
Had the lamb gyro and it was amazing! The pita is stuffed to the point that I wasn't exactly sure how I was supposed to eat it, but I managed to figure it out, and it was awesome. Gyro, Greek fries and a drink for just about $10.

I read one of my fellow yelper Daniel S. and literally 5 mins walk from my building. A guy shouting pizza the left and gyro on the right. I ordered a lamb gyro with lettuce and tomatoes. Damn $8.50 for this enormous gyro man! I was taking till the guy say no recording…woah buddy hehe! Pita bread very yummy and not soggy as most places. Lots of lamb slices mmm and I feel like a whole tomato was in my gyro. It was pretty tasty but way too fulfilling. I like eating with a fork so I won't be wearing my food on my face haha
It has been a while since I traveled around NYC looking for the best gyro but Gyro II, near MSG, is still the best gyro I've had – including those I ate in Greece. The meat is always fresh and hot and their sauce with paprika is outstanding. The place self isn't the best and seating is always tough but the inconvenience is worth dealing with for the excellent gyro.
I happen to be in the area and carving a gyro. I look up greek food on yelp it points me to this establishment and all these reviews raving about their gyros and how awesome the sauce is. Tried the gyro and got extra sauce like everyone recommended. It tasted horrible. Sauce was too sweet and the lamb did not taste good. The lamb seemed extremely processed. I expect a place called gyro to be good at GYROS. The sauce was not authentic tzatziki and tastes more like a thin sweet salad dressing. I gave it 2 stars because the establishment was clean and good customer service. I know and love greek food. I didn't love anything about it. I took 4 bites and threw it away.
Looking for a delicious meal near Madison Square Garden that is filing and won't break the bank? HERE. The best gyros in NYC! The gyros sandwich is truly the best I've tried in my life. Not an overstatement. You will agree once you try it, the sauce in particular. There is something in it that adds a layer of extravagance and sets the gyro apart from other gyro sandwiches you have tried. It's similar to Halal guys white sauce, but slightly sour and not too thick and messy. Note there is additional seating upstairs with utensils, napkins, water, and clean bathrooms. Only downside is no refills on drinks. Question is, is it enforced?
