Mini cupcakes are now @ H BAKE SHOP!! Absolutely WONDERFUL!! Moist, fresh & delicious! Raspberry Lemonade my fav!
Initially this was going to be a 2 star review but it became a 4 star one and let me tell you how …
I ordered delivery from here and though the estimated delivery time was 60-75mins it actually came in about 40mins which was great. i had purchased some snacks for my staff who were ready for some sweets. I ordered the following:
Gluten-Free Gooey Marshmallow Chocolate Cookie: The first bite was a bit dry, but after that it was pretty balanced and very gooey.
PB&J Cupcake: They staff member that had this enjoyed it.
Oatmeal Currant Energizer Cookie: The staff absolutely loved this cookie. About 4 different people shared this cookie and they all thought it was great.
Fudge Gluten-Free Brownie: This is where the issue was. A few of us tried this and it tasted a little "off", almost like it had ginger or soy sauce mixed in =X. One of my staff members then noticed a blue/white area on the brownie and everyone immediately thought it looked like mold. We all stopped eating it, took some pictures for Yelp, and called the bakery just so that they do not sell anymore moldy brownies to people. When I called I requested to know when the brownies were baked and was told that they did not know. So I told them what the issue was and they offered me another item, of which I declined, and the conversation ended there. A few minutes later I receive a call back and the employee spoke with the person who did the baking and they stated that they made the brownies that morning, and would like to see a picture of the brownie. I had already disposed of the brownie, but because we already had pictures taken prior for Yelp I was able to send her those. Only a few minutes after hitting send with my email did I receive another call back from the bakery to state that what we thought was mold was actually solidified butter, and there was just a chunk of it in the brownie. She still apologized for the entire situation and once again offered me another item, but I declined.
So in the end the baked goods were not the greatest we've had, but the service was pretty great; and when I receive such good service I am definitely more willing to give the place more chances. Kudos to their staff for following up and really caring about their patrons and the quality of their product. I'll try again.
After a random craving for cupcakes, I made the trek to this lesser known cupcakery (I made that up) in the front of Hudson Eatery. Yeah it's a trek for most, but this is actually in my 'hood! Dessert spots are always welcome in this area of town.
I was welcomed by a partner and his first-day-at-work niece and she helped me pick out a couple cupcakes. Of course I went for the watermelon mint one with a berry frosting. I also picked up the nutty/Nutella cupcake. The watermelon mint cupcake was unique and I loved the cake itself, but I thought the berry frosting was too overpowering and took too much away from the flavor. The Nutella cupcake didn't taste much like Nutella at all, unfortunately, but it was still a good chocolate cupcake. I liked the cake for both, but was not a fan of the frosting consistency. It's too funny and airy for my liking, but that's just my opinion. I like a dense frosting that doesn't overpower the cake.
At $4 a pop, these aren't the cheapest cupcakes but in an area where dessert is lacking, they're kind of a monopoly. I'd come back when I'm craving a sweet, but wouldn't put it at the top of my list of cupcake shops, unfortunately.
My office has catered cupcakes from H Bake Shop, and they are as tasty as they look. They sell both filled cupcakes and plain cupcakes with numerous unique flavors like creme brulee, toffee, tiramisu, and apple. H Bake also offers a ton of gluten free options as well.
I have had the "plain" V2 Cupcake – this vanilla cupcake was far from being plain! The vanilla bean cake was moist, while the whipped vanilla frosting was fluffy and light. I've also tried the Pink Lemonade Cake, made with lemon sour cream cake with raspberry lemon butter cream frosting and raspberry coulis. Unfortunately, I couldn't really taste the difference between vanilla and lemon sour cream cake – both tasted quite similar.
Had the Watermelon Mint cupcake with Blueberry Frosting which was amazing. It also had lemon peel garnish. You could taste each of these flavors. I really enjoyed this cupcake.
Also had the Campfire. This cupcake albeit good, left something to be desired. It was to have cinnamon marshmallow filling however, the cinnamon flavor was hard to find. I was excited for the cinnamon aspect as that is what set it apart from other smores-like cupcakes you can find elsewhere.
The reason for the 4 vs 5 stars in that I only order cupcakes with fillings; though couldn't resist the uniqueness of the mint watermelon so had to try that despite the no filling. There weren't too many options with fillings. Also, the $10 cc minimum is a slight annoyance.
Overall I really like the creativity in the ingredient pairings in the cupcakes offered.
I was completely surprised by the PB&J – I'm usually not a fan, but these flavors came together amazingly.
I also found the Cookie and Cream cupcake to be heavenly.
The Carrot Cake was also delicious. I was blown away by the ingenuity and subtlety of flavors in each cupcake. Wow!
