  1. This place is a small mom & pop shop where Mr & mostly Mrs does everything!  She takes orders, takes calls, chops & cooks.  Their Don Katsu (pork cutlet) & fried fish katsu is wonderful!  Crispy, tender and tasty.  This is a modified Korean version of Katsu house where breading is a bit different from authentic Japanese Katsu.  But bottom line is that this place is awesome! Service is simple and food is tasty!

  2. Super nice family run joint. Even if you don't speak Korean, they will take care of you. It's not a place to have a gourmet experience, but more of a place to go for home cooking when you don't feel like rustling something up at home. Their specialty, as the name indicates, is korean style tonkatsu. But they also have a couple things up their sleeve, like a pretty decent ddeokbokki which you can choose to get with cheese, ramyun, or japchae noodles!

Maybe not worth the trip out from Morningside Heights – but a real genuine, nice place to be to get some down home Korean food.

  3. They have tasty & crispy cutlets and some other Korean dishes. I ordered cheese don Katsu( pork cutlet with mozzarella cheese), my friends ordered omurice( rice omelet), spicy squid over the rice. All of them were tasty… But I didn't like their service at all and didn't like sitting area which I could see inside of the messy kitchen. I will do maybe take out but I don't prefer to dine in anymore..

  4. Cute little place with decent crispy Chicken/Pork/Fish Katsu. The sauce is the best I've had compared to other places and the servers, I'm guessing the owners are always friendly and welcoming. It's basically impossible to order a bad selection from the menu. Their DDUK BOK GI is definitely worth trying as a side dish along with your choice of Katsu.

  5. Having only ate breakfast, I was clearly starving by 7pm. Yelped a random place towards the Fort Lee vicinity and came across Haha Don Katsu. I always use to go to Pho 32 and never realized this place even existed. Anyways, upon arriving the first thing you notice, NO AIR CONDITIONING. It was 90 degrees and humid outside and they had a fan on. There were NO PATRONS dining here and I can probably see why. With no AC and the hot foods they offered, it's no wonder people turn away from this place.

Having already set foot in the door, there was no turning back. My husband and I picked a table and the owner immediately moved the fan to be blowing in our direction, which was sort of annoying. Waters were brought out right way, not cold water, but room temperature water from a gallon of Poland Spring they had sitting there…

Let's start with the restaurant itself..

Very small place. Wooden tables and highly uncomfortable wooden benches and chairs. I wouldn't suggest sitting there and chatting all night long if that's what you're looking to do. My ass was hurting towards the end of the the dinner. Looks to be a family owned Korean restaurant. Very minimal upkeep, with a few pictures of food hanging up on the walls.

FOOD: Food was delicious. I ordered the fish katsu, which is basically just fried cod. It was MORE than a generous portion since it came with 5 pieces of cod, a small pasta salad, this Japanese/Korean salad with brown dressing,  a side of rice, and a few pieces of edamame. My husband order the chicken katsu which came over at least 15 pieces of chicken. We also ordered the spicy rice cakes to try which were REALLY spicy if you're not into that. The food was delicious. I could've done without the spicy rice cakes since I've had real ones from Hong Kong (I'm being biased). But overall the food was delicious.

I just wish I was eating this in regular air conditioned room, which is why I think I gave this place a 3 star. I hope this place gets more business when it's cooler out because the food really is delicious and the owner who waited on us was really friendly, even if she did lack in her English skill.

  6. Went for Weekday Lunch Special

Food – 5/5. The pork donkatsu is delicious! It has a juicy pork center with crispy breading that you dip into one of the two donkatsu sauces. They give you a sesame seed mortar & pestle bowl which to me defines what they give at the archetypal donkatsu restaurant. The pickled jalapeno is actually on the sweeter side with a light zing so it goes really well with the meal without leaving a burning sensation on your tongue. The salad's soy/sesame dressing is a good mix of savory and sweet and being with the rough cut of romaine, seems to me that they made it in house.

Service – 4/5. Very nice lady that insisted I sit in a specific table by the window. Later I heard through conversation that it was because that spot has the best coverage from the air conditioning. Points for caring about the little things!

Price – 5/5. The lunch special items are $10 or less and they give you a huge amount of food. If you want donkatsu for lunch, I definitely recommend this place!

    Parking – Street (Metered)

  7. I ordered a late night donkatsu to go after a good work out.  When I went home and had it it was not bad but this wasn't good enough to be the specialty dish of the store.  It was ok at most and wasn't as good as another place I go to around the area.

I also have something else I have noticed which forced me to give 3 at max, which I am not planning to reveal on this post.  Hostess and servers seemed nice.

  8. As was stated before, how does this place not have more reviews?! With much competition within Fort Lee and nearby Palisades Park, I can say with no hesitation that this is my favorite place for katsu.

For all you non Koreans (like myself) do not fret, the menu is in English and if that is not enough the two lovely ladies running this joint put up labeled pictures of favorite dishes. From the katsu side of the menu, you have a choice of pork katsu, chicken katsu or fish katsu. And you can have it with rice, rice and curry sauce or soba noodles.

They start you off with miso soup, salad and a variety of ban chan. My favorite being the pickled jalapenos. As first timers, I chose the fish katsu with rice and my man got the pork katsu with rice and curry. The breading is so light and crisp. So good that you do not get that heavy, greasy feeling in the pit of your stomach. They also provide sesame seeds with a man made mortar and pestle and homemade katsu sauce and spicy sauce. You then make your own sauce table side depending on how spicy you want it. Don't forget to sprinkle the smashed sesame seeds on top. Then dip away!

For easy navigation, this place is directly in front of Pho 32 & Shabu Shabu. Also it shares an entrance with a hair salon but the salon is on the second floor while Haha Don Katsu is on the first floor.
