Hakki Baba
“The portion size is enormous and the owner is super friendly; she even gave us Turkish tea on the house!”
“The bread was warm and fresh out the oven and the Shepard salad with feta was a little dry, but still good.”

First time I've been here and I would go again without a doubt.
The place was nearly empty when we walked in, no one greeted us, we just sat down on our own and waited for a menu.
Orders where taken quickly and soup and bread arrived quickly too. Soup was pretty good and the bread was some of the best I've had as compared to other Turkish places around.
The meals came at a normal time, not fast, not slow. The meat on all three dishes was great, well cooked. I had the beyti kebab which was delicious all the way through. The portions where notably bigger than most others as well.
The salads and yogurt where also bravely good and had a pretty good portion size.
Coffee was the best I've had so make sure to get a cup (it's small but you probably won't ask for a second, it's more of a cherry on top rather than a cake).
Really the only reason I give this place 4/5 is the speed of service. The lady was friendly and everything was great but the timing. Maybe the coffee needs 15 minutes to make, ok. But the 15 minutes for a check?? I mean I was in no hurry to leave, the atmosphere there is great, but 15 minutes for a receipt is too much. I'm hoping they have more staff on busier nights.
Would recommend for a party of 3+ for a nice casual informal dinner. Come hungry. Try the coffee.
Hakki Baba is one of the hot spots that is fairly new in the neighborhood in the Cliffside Park area. Due to the neighborhoods diverse population there are roughly over 15 to 20 restaurants that serve Mediterranean/Turkish cuisine in the area, and Hakki Baba is the most unique out of all of them. The small mom and pop shop restaurant was established a little over a year ago. What makes Hakki Baba different out of all the restaurants in the area is that their unbelievable hospitality. The restaurants cozy antique design with wood walls and ceilings gives the restaurant a great vibe. On to the dishes, this restaurant is not your regular "kebab shop" everything is made from scratch their appetizers are solid the turkish cigars were nice and crispy not too salty and their lebne which is strained yogurt with walnuts had the perfect amount of garlic. The sheperd salad is a must try it is actually a "home made " sheperd salad it was diced finely in tiny pieces with extra virgin olive oil. Their signature hot appetizers small "findik lahmacun" were nicely seasoned and baked perfectly. If you go with a group of people the friendly servers recommend you to try their family style kebab platters, which gets served over pita on top of a long flatbread stand that is to die for!. The family style platters consist of most of the kebabs they have on their menu. The adana, their kofte, lamb and chicken kebab all of their meats are grilled to perfection. The best dish that got our attention was their signature walnut kebab and pistachio kebab, the crunchy nuts gave the meat a unique texture which was out of this world. Their homemade kataifi roll and almond pudding was fresh as well as their turkish tea. It is absolutely recommended to make reservations. One of the key things Hakki Baba does that separates them from the rest of the restaurants in the area is their unique menu that offers different kebabs, their cozy boutique restaurant setting is unlike any other kebab houses and most importantly their hospitality, they treat you like you're home. It's the small things that customers appreciate and its establishments like this that push the bar to greater levels in this neighborhood.
