  1. 5/5 food while 3/5 speed – delivery order.

The miso black cod was definitely above average and served with the miso sauce yay! It also came with some spinach on the side. I gave full credit for this dish! The California roll was less amazing, however still prepared fresh. I did not find the portion small, as other Yelpers pointed out.

I received my food exactly one hour after my order – in general should take roughly between 30 to 45 minute. Lesson was learned – no more deliveries!

  2. I almost don't want to write this review so I can keep this hidden gem to myself! On 51st Btwn 5th and 6th this is an awesome addition to a location stuffed to the brim with steakhouses. Delicious sushi, awesome decor and incredibly friendly staff. We came for happy hour and it was a crazy good deal! $5 apps and sushi rolls and they had a decent selection to choose from. $5 wine beer or sake and $7 cocktails. You can't go wrong! I can't way to try them out for lunch.

We ordered the pork buns, shrimp pan fried dumplings and spicy tuna rolls. All delish.

The decor is fresh and modern, light but not too bright. A breath of fresh air from all the darker restaurants around. I like to see my food and my company.

And like other reviews have mentioned the host/owner is so friendly and kind-I want to come back just to chat with him again!

  3. This was an intimate experience – After eating too much fried food in the previous week, I came here on a date with myself (and sushi), and I left feeling clean and satiated.

It's an obscure location because you have to go downstairs, and it wasn't too packed when I showed up for dinner. I was immediately seated and given a hot towel. I noticed I had no service so I asked one of the servers for the WIFI, and they had no problem giving it to me (which is great because some places can be very "hell no" about it).

I ordered the green tea, tuna tartare, and red dragon roll (upon recommendation because I was indecisive). The green tea was great and came in a cute little pot, the presentation of the tuna tartare was amazing and it was absolutely mouth watering, and the red dragon roll did not disappoint! I love speciality rolls but I'm craving this particular roll as I write about it – the fried shrimp, the spicy mayo, the eel…

Basically, this is a great sushi spot in an expensive location. I don't think it's inexpensive (I mean my bill came out to $35 without tip), but it was a good portion of food and just as important – it was delicious! Also, service is top notch. All the staff was super friendly and attentive, hence the five stars.

  4. Met friends here for dinner who work in the area, one of them chose it.
We shared a few appetizers – Age Tofu, Shrimp Tempura, and Sishito Peppers.
The Tofu and the Sishito Peppers were great portions, good thing we were sharing among three people.

For dinner two of us had Chirashi, one had Sashimi Special.
The fish was delicious and fresh tasting.
Next time I'm planning on getting the Sashimi Special – I looked over at my friend's and she had Ika etc – her meal was a great selection/portion for $25.

  5. Food was alright, got a katsu and bento box to share for dinner. The sashimi in the bento box was quite good and the katsu was delicious, but all the other stuff in the bento box was just alright. Also this place was FREEZING, I thought about running back to my hotel to grab a sweater so many times during that dinner.

  6. Really nice, quick and easy Japanese restaurant.  We came after the dinner crowd and had no problem grabbing a table. We ordered the sashimi platter for two with edamame and seaweed salad and were more than well fed. I would highly recommend Hama if you're in the area!

  7. What a wonderful little gem we found!

It's 4pm on a Friday and I get a text from one of my friends that she wants to do dinner and sushi. Of course, what do we do? We go to yelp and throw out some places. I throw out Hatsuhana Sushi, 4 starts, 700+ reviews, $$$ 3 dollar signs – sounds great! We all check it out and decide to go there – yelp.com/biz/hatsuhana-s…

None of us thought ahead to make reservations =(

We all arrived at 7:00 pm but the next available table would be at 8:45pm. FAIL.
The nice gentleman host was dressed in a black suit, very nice but very stern. He literally looks like and reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry and Elaine are waiting for dinner at a Chinese restaurant and of course, they have trouble getting in and Elaine gets hangry! And yes, we was HANGRY too so that was a no go.

We peaked inside and it was quiet and empty. I wasn't feeling the ambience anyways so we all get on our phones and start yelping the nearest sushi place. My friend calls up Hama and they happen to have a table ready. She tells them we can be there in 5 minutes. We hightail our asses from Hatsuhana a few blocks away – mind you – me in heels and this is during Christmas time. We have to cross 50th Street and 5th with all the tourists from Rockefeller and the Christmas light show, ugh.

Finally, we arrived, sweaty and hangry. We sit down and realize, well, this place isn't even packed but who cares, we hangry!

I ordered my usual cabernet ($8) and was surprised to find that I really liked it. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly delighted.

The highlight of the night – OMAKASE FOR $50! In NY? Never seen that before! In case you don't know what omakase means – it's when the chef selects everything for you.

    DONE!

That's what we all ordered. I devoured my meal in minutes! All in all, fish was fresh, we loved our meal, our waiter was funny, service was GREAT, and the price was just right. This is already on my list of favorite places to eat! I can't wait to come back.

Oh, and the vibe is young and lively. Not dead like Hatsuhana. =)

  8. Elegant, sophisticated design and fresh sushi. I loved the entrance and large door downstairs that led to the actual restaurant.

The sushi boat we ordered actually arrived on a bridge-like platform and we were amazed how fresh the fish was. There was a sashimi that came with crunchy, tiny balls that tasted like wasabi. The flavors together were different from other average sushi boats we tried (which is a good thing). The sushi bridge also came with a different kind of soy sauce, which might of had uni as an ingredient. The service itself was average, but friendly. We loved our cocktails (which took longer to make for some reason and came about 15 minutes after we received the sushi).

Overall great sushi place that is close to Rockefeller Center and even a Zara!
