Pretty decent Chinese food. I don't recommend the Japanese menu though, the sushi is not very good. The shredded beef is my favorite and is excellent. The staff is very friendly and is one of the reasons I go back.
Food used to be better. The sauces have become very bland and when you get take out it doesn't come with a lot of sauce. I was disappointed with the chicken and broccoli dish, which I used to get for years here. Scallion pancakes are good consistently but the entrees are just okay. I've been looking for other restaurants in the area.
With so many great sushi and Chinese restaurants around, you can find much better. Two and a half stars.
Busy foot traffic and seating available only at the sushi bar or outside was encouraging on the Saturday night my friend and I went to Hanami. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered a variety of things to find out how good the restaurant was. We were seated and immediately served our beverages and complimentary edamame, which was an awesome touch. The edamame was cooked perfectly, although it lacked salt. Chop sticks, a fork, soy sauce dish, and handi-wipes were also waiting at each seat, which was nice.
For appetizers, we ordered chicken lettuce wraps and a salmon roll. The lettuce wraps were just okay. The chicken and accoutrements were cooked properly but had very little flavor. A rich sauce would have been welcome against the cool, crisp lettuce. The lettuce was cut smaller than most places I've seen, but it wasn't bad. It should have been dried much better though, as each piece was extremely wet.
The sushi was just okay. The rice was cooked properly but the fish lacked that fresh flavor that one craves with sushi. One side note here: has anyone ever been to a good Japanese restaurant where they pre-slice the fish?? That's what they do here. If you look in the refrigerated case at the counter, all of the fish is pre-sliced in significant quantity, ensuring that the sushi chefs will not have to cut the fish at least during that night (and worse, potentially others).
For an entree, I ordered beef chow fun. The beef was scarce and only acceptable, as it was fairly tough. The noodles were a bit overcooked, which guaranteed that it could not be brought home for leftovers. It was not well flavored, although it had a lovely bite to it that's not typical for chow fun. The dish has potential but needs a lot of work.
My friend had chicken with broccoli in a garlic-ginger soy sauce, which was much more successful. It had a great sweet flavor that she loved, and the broccoli was still crispy but had been cooked. The chicken was good too, but she came across one piece that should have been thrown out as it had a large clump of fat in it.
We had difficulty getting refills on our beverages for quite a while, but otherwise the service was good. They end the service with complimentary grapes (yum) and cantaloupe (not yet ripe), which was another nice touch.
I'm not sure why this place is so busy… there's certainly better around.
I think I ordered the wrong things, some food was great and some was nasty.
Good stuff: shredded beef, chicken and broccoli, wonton soup, and chicken wraps.
Bad stuff: jewels of the sea (lobster was awful), orange beef and the filet mignon.
So the bad stuff was also the pricest…guess what you pay for isn't always what you get.
I come here on and off to beat the run of the mill sushi places and Chinese places. No matter how many times I come here I never have a bad meal. Like most places I review, this was a take-out only for me. The dining room did look inviting, and I'm sure it is, but again, I'm a take out guy for some things.
It is pricey depending on what you get but everything I had was fresh and best of all it was still hot (I got Negamaki) when I got home. Thankfully it wasn't sitting that long in a bag somewhere.
The hostess station is nice and friendly and the menu seems to always be changing. Parking can be tricky at times since it's metered…so read signs carefully so you don't get a ticket. Probably the worst thing to get when you have a food coma.
YUM YUM YUMMY!
We begged and pleaded with them to allow us to eat lunch with a few minutes remaining of their "lunch time".
I ordered quickly – was served quickly. Fish was generously cut and very fresh/good quality.
Although quick – it was an amazing meal!
I wouldn't exactly come here for just the sushi…
It's a Chinese/Japanese restaurant with some pretty good americanized Chinese food. When I was younger, I used to order the sesame chicken all the time. Overall, if you're craving Japanese food, I would look somewhere else.
The service here is a bit hit or miss. Some of the waiters I've encountered here are a bit rude, same with some of the hostesses. The dining room does get crowded on a Saturday night, but I do believe they take reservations.
There's a metered parking lot right in front of the restaurant, after 6pm the meter is free.
When I want really good Chinese / Japanese food this is where I come or order. We are so well known here that they call my boyfriend V.I.P. Jon lol but hey the discount doesn't hurt. When we come here they make us feel so welcome, and who doesn't love a both Japanese and Chinese BYOB restaurant?
There is a liquor / convenience store rite next door so no need to go get your booze in advance just walk rite next door and enjoy your meal.
I love their sushi rolls they are so fresh and made to order by the sushi chefs at the bar, my personal favorite is the weinburg which is shirmp tempura, kani, cucumber roll with tabiko and eel sauce but I opt out on the eel sauce and get spicy mayo. They have really great appetizers such as the sizzling duck crepe, edamame, I love their egg rolls, and my boy friend really enjoys their spicy peanut and chicken wontons. They have the best wonton soup around and I crave it when I'm feeling under the weather.
I've tried quite a few different entrees but my ultimate favorite is their crispy sesame chicken with broccoli and white rice it is just so good and made with real pieces of chicken unlike some of these other places around here. I've also had the chicken and broccoli, mango & pineapple chicken which is really good too, General Tao's, crispy honey walnut shrimp, they also have really great fried rice.
Overall this place is very inviting and I love coming here and stuffing my face. If you are ever in the area and craving really good Chinese / Japanese food come here you won't be disappointed.
