Hanco’s
“Then there was a layer of ham, ground pork, pate, and then a slew of veggies that added a sweet crispness to the whole thing.”
“Have not had Hanco's in over 2 years because Nicky's used to quench my sweet pickled thirst for Banh Mi within the area.”
“But since I am a glutton, I also ordered a classic Vietnamese Sandwich which is normally called a Bahn Mi.”

It s. Good place to have bubble tea and Vietnamese Iced coffee. The vietnamese iced coffee is made with condensed milk, coffee and ice. It is a very alternative to ice latte. However it is very sweet (with more fat too). They have a large selection of bubble tea and if you don't like tapioca they have a tons of different Jelly to accommodate everyone. Now the only thing they need to work on is the decoration of the place otherwise a good address!
I've never had the food here, but I've had their iced Vietnamese coffee with boba. I love Vietnamese coffee because it is so strong. This place is no exception! My coffee was really strong and not too sweet, and the added boba was a nice treat. I'm definitely coming back to try the food next time!
I'm officially obsessed with Hanco's vermicelli bowls with vegetarian chicken. I always order this when I'm in the area.
Pro-tip: When you dine in, you get a LOT more food than what fits in the to-go container. I learned that today when I decided to enjoy a late lunch here.
The vermicelli bowl is filled with cold rice noodles, a big bed of leafy greens on the bottom, jicama, carrots, cucumbers, delicious fake chicken (seriously tastes so good), crushed peanuts and garlic chips. It comes with fish sauce which I pour all over and this bowl is seriously the tastiest thing. Incredible filling for a meal less than $10.
Go here!
Quite possibly the worst location in Brooklyn. Was craving bubble tea so went to the Smith St location. Upon entering, the placed smelled like the garbage seriously needed to be taken out. The staff were rude and my taro was chalky and gross. Wound up throwing it out after a couple sips it was that bad. There are numerous locations of this Vietnamese snack/ tea place but this location is best avoided. Dirty, rude and bad inferior quality.
Decent banh mi for around $8 but they use way too much butter on the bread. I bit into a huge chunk of butter which was both kind of delicious and kind of disgusting. The pickled vegetables were pretty good but overall the sandwich was rather bland…and buttery.
Not the best banh mi I've had but probably the only option for one in the area.
You can not go wrong with Hanco's Classic Vietnamese sandwiches. I had purchased the grilled pork sandwich and the taste was perfection.
The prices are slightly on the expensive side at $8 with tax. The taste and portion is so worth it.
Plenty of room to sit and enjoy your meal. I recommend having a Thai Ice Tea as well.
Decent Bahn Mi but certainly not the best. At nearly $8 for the sandwich, I'd say that's pretty overpriced. Given the area, I guess I understand…
The problem I have with Hanco's Bahn Mi is simply the way they stuff the sandwich. It's not possible to get a bite that includes all of the meat plus the pickled vegetables at the same time. This defeats the purpose since the combination is what makes Bahn Mi taste so good.
Ordered a matcha green tea bubble tea and thought it was pretty good. The bubbles were still warm so I had to wait for it to all cool down. Didn't like that.
I will stick with Ba Xuyen.
Tasty food albeit not terribly authentic, SLOW SERVICE, okay prices
Why 3 stars? I ordered a drink and a sandwich and waited for 25 minutes. A cold cut banh mi can still be made in under 3 minutes even if you toast the bread and the tea I ordered was pre-brewed. Seriously, this wait was ridiculous. Even with the people in front of me who ordered bahn mis, they're supposed to be quickly assembled. Anyone who's ever been to a viet super market with a little food court can attest to how quickly these are usually assembled by a pair of quick hands.
Cold cut bahn mi:
1. sandwich bread was legit Vietnamese baguette which I recognized and can appreciate.
2. I ordered a cold cut sandwich but not only was the bread hot, the whole thing was hot (this is how I knew things were a little off). The primary meat was not a cold cut but a type of flavored meatball/meatloaf. It was quite tasty, but not what I ordered or expected
3. The pate is either non-existent, or tastes just like plain mayo. There was no visible pate (again, not very authentic)
4. The quick pickles were nice, but TERRIBLY distributed. I'll submit photos, and you can see how all the pickles are on one side of the sandwich. I literally had to alternate bites on the sandwich and I would get entire bites of pickles, entire bites of meat.
5. All said, it was still tasty but for the mistakes, I'm not sure it's worth $7.25 (especially when I'm used to banh mi for just under $5)
The vietnamese ice tea was pretty good, not too sweet, and still pretty milky. Warm boba? Not my thing on a hot summer day.
