Great selection of wines here, decent selection of liquors, crap selection of pre-made sangria (I was en route to a party I was co-hosting, it was absolutely freezing and I didn't have time to make it myself).
It's close to the 46th street N/M train and was on the way to where I was going, so it's very convenient and large in size. I wasn't too fond at their organization system – kinda has no rhyme or reason. But thanks to my knowing what I like and being familiar with certain brands and types my friend and I were able to locate what we needed.
Also, though could have been faster since we weren't looking to browse, but as nice as the young "kid" (who I had to ask 3 times if he worked here and he looked lost and confused and made little attempt to find me someone who COULD help) and the woman behind the register (and plastic wall) were they were pretty unhelpful and I'm by no means a wine expert, but when I know more than you do and YOU'RE the one running a wine/liquor store – then there's a problem.
I know about whites and rose mostly because those are the wines I prefer, what I know about reds is mostly from a wine class I took in Paris (trust me, it was great and lots of fun, but probably a tourist thing for them) and from what I've learned I like since my boyfriend prefers reds.
They couldn't help in the least, but my friend found something that was good and I went with Barefoot Red Moscato since I knew I'd like it and Barefoot makes some quality stuff – but again, I am NOT a wine expert – but if you're running a store you should be somewhat knowledgeable or at least know where I could find a certain bottle in the store…
The 3 stars I'm giving is for the size, convenience, location and selection – not for the sub-par service.
Good wine and spirits store off the 46th Street stop. Large selection of spirits, but the wine selection is nothing to write home about. The prices are pretty standard for the areas. I tend to see a lot of people coming in here to buy lotto tickets.
