  1. My first meal in NYC was a bagel sandwich at Han's Market. My friend lives on Clark Street, and I was starving from my red eye flight, and I just really wanted a breakfast sandwich before I passed out for a bit.

Walked to Han's Market, and saw they had a full breakfast menu and bagels. I decided to get a bagel sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon. The cook was quite busy at the time, so I was looking at the chalkboard menu of their lunch sandwiches (they use Boar's Head, plus!), have fresh juices/smoothies, and a pretty decent market. They have simple items like chobani yogurt to alcohol and snacks. Lots of folks were coming in to grab some coffee to go as well. Seemed like a very nice neighborhood market, and my sandwich was only $3.50. I paid for it at the cashier around the corner, and the cashier (I am assuming part of the owner's family) looked not very nice as he didn't smile or talk.

The bacon was good of course, the egg, much more than I had expected, and too much kraft american cheese for me. But it was so yummy and since I was so hungry, I scarfed it down fast.

I ended up coming back the next morning for a bagel with cream cheese. They didn't have the lox cream cheese (boo!), but the chive one was good as well. For a toasted bagel with cream cheese, it was $2.50. So I think if you want the meat, cheese, and eggs, the breakfast sandwiches are only $1 more. again, the cashier didnt look so happy when I came to pay, but owell. Not sure if they take credit card, but I'm thinking they do.

They are right next to the Clark Subway station.

  2. This place never smells good, and it is so jam packed with high-stacked items that I am terrified cans of tomato sauce and bags of no-brand potato chips will fall on my head at any moment.  The staff isn't friendly, like you might expect at a neighborhood deli.  The prices are OK, not too high.

  3. Way more than your average bodega/deli. This convenience store attached to the Clark Street Station is quite a find. Not only can you get your mild groceries that you are in dire need of, but the unsung and undercover hero of Han's is the deli counter and juice stand.

From the outside it is just Clark Kent, you would expect nothing more and would look at the glasses and think, "Geek." However, when you further explore the randomly located bodega you will find Superman. A full juice bar with 14 different concoctions and you can see all the ingredients out there and they are all extremely fresh. I always come in here for a drink on the way out of the subway, but today I went to get smoothies since Connecticut Muffin blows and can't find bananas, and lo and behold, they were both amazing, fresh and completely bursting with flavor at $4.50.

While waiting for said smoothies to be made, I looked at the deli menu and saw a nice variety of sandwiches. Inside the case I saw a bunch of different chicken options, Boars Head meats in mass and a five-top of different empanadas that looked pretty tasty.

Han's is a welcome surprise and if you live by not judging a book by it's cover, you may have just found your new spot for smoothies and sandwiches hiding inside what appears to be just another random bodega.
