Happy Lemon

“I tried the salted cheese and it reminded me of the cheese filled danish from Entenmann's.

Pretty cool spot.”

“It is TECHNICALLY the same thing as Gong cha's milk foam series, except it's a bit better tasting and the cheese flavour makes it more exceptional imo.”

“This drink tastes like the teas with sea salt foam caps from other Asian tea chains.”

  1. Salted Cheese with Sweet Drinks?

Happy Lemon did it really well. My Red Tea with Salted Cheese ($3.50) was not really what I expected as I am not really a cheese person. But it is really a layer of frothy cream on top and not cheesy at all.

The branding and the logo are really cute and energetic without being too cheesy.

I guess I must have really enjoyed my drink.

Located inside New York Food Court can be pretty busy on the weekend but worth the wait.

  2. With a little rearranging, this could be named after how delighted the owner is to have fired Melanie (Happy No Mel), or how I feel about large cantaloupes (Happy Melon), but instead we have this concept which – I assume – in East Asia is completely typical and ordinary. However in the USA, it's unique, original, and somewhat bizarre.

Inside the NY Mall Food Court, which is on the North side of Roosevelt, one and a half blocks west of main. It's in the back, on the right. Other highlights of the court include Mango Mango Dessert.

The concept of Happy Lemon is, well… sour lemony drinks and slushies of all sorts, which make you squint your eyes from the bitterness and break out in a big Happy Lemon smile from the hyper sugariness.

I've tried at least 5 things off their menu and I still can't tell you what I like here. I certainly like to add different fruits to the lemon because otherwise it's more sour than the girl in the Stone Temple Pilots song with Sarah Michelle Gellar (the girl you downloaded pix of in your parent's cellar when you were a braindead AOL-er).

The lemon mango drink and the originality just about edge this place over the line to 5/5, but it's close, and I'm a bit disappointed by the spit guard they wear sometimes because I enjoy (and dearly miss) the taste of employee spit which really adds texture.

Be careful what you order. Some of these drinks are so sour, that when she drank them, Ronda Rousey changed her name to Ronda Sourey.

  3. Wanted to check this out due to all the raving about the salted cheese. I ordered a cold green tea salted cheese $3.50. Not bad for the price. After placing your order they hand you a number token with a lemon logo. Pretty cute. The wait for it was pretty long for my drink. When I finally got it I was fairly disappointed. All it was just frothed cream with sea salt and some matcha sprinkled on top. Not sure why they even called it salted cheese. The green tea itself was good and refreshing though.

  4. SPEECHLESS…how can a drink taste so good?! I wish there were more "Happy Lemon" locations within the U.S. It was by far the best froze drink that I've ever had in my life. I'm not even exaggerating!

I ordered the mango lemon drink and it was exactly what I had in mind! It was tart, sweet, and sour all at once! There were bits of mango and jelly within the drink which was like a party in your mouth. If you're looking for a drink to cool down, you can't go wrong with the Mango Lemon.

OK…I made two stops here within 8 hours.

  5. I'm happy while taking a sip of my bubble tea! Been here twice & got the manggo slushy. Its refreshing! Crew here use spit guard & thats really impressive. You know that you're drinking a clean & tefreshing drink!

  6. EDIT: Happy Lemon isn't the only place that offers Salted Cheese Drinks! There's Gong Cha, but under a different name. Ive been seeing it a lot in other Bubble Tea places…

    3.5/5

The only franchise in Flushing that offers a series of Salted Cheese drinks. Photos of and reviews of such a novelty product perked my curiosity that I just had to(finally!) try it. The salted cheese does not taste like actual cheese, but tasted like the whipped cream frosting you'd normally find on cakes from Chinese bakeries. I wasn't really a fan of the drink and gave it away to my friend who liked it. The drink options here are limited, and it's hard to tell which drinks taste good(I'm sure that in this case, people can argue that all the drinks are good, but I still like to be skeptical). Very cute storefront and mascot, though.

On a side note, Happy Lemon claims to be the first bubble tea joint to be "floated" on some kind of stock exchange, but no results from Google…

  7. Inside the New York food court! My go to drink here is the Mango Matcha Latte, which essentially is a smoothie. Now I know this place is known for its lemon on lemon flavors everywhere throughout the menu, and its salted cheese series, but I will try them sooner or later. I've always been a fan of their ordering system too, as you're given a plastic lemon number and they call it out when your drink is ready. Way better than trying to understand Chinese call outs at other bubble tea places. A high 4 stars for now until I try more of their drinks.

  8. I usually get the green tea with rock salt and cheese, but the last time I got it, it wasn't sweet. So I opted for my usual green milk tea, large; $4.25. It's was perfectly sweetened and creamy without overpowering the taste of the tea. Most places that I've tried tend skimp on at least one of the 3 ingredients (sugar, milk, and tea) that it always feels like it's missing something. Like they put so much sugar and milk, that it just tastes like sweet milk. This place got the formula just right.
My only complaint was that it took a really long time for them to make my drink and it wasn't even busy. There were 3 workers; one on the register and 2 in the back station, but only one was making the tea and really taking his time too.
