Harbor Q

“Finger lickin ribs, tasty made to order chopped salads, mouth watering pulled pork as well as delicious sides.”

“While it seems sacrilege to get a salad at a bbq joint, the "make your own" checklist you fill it out to order with was just too great to pass up.”

“I also always order the 'Buffalo Soldiers': eggrolls filled with buffalo chicken and gorgonzola…”

  1. If you want to escape from a busy work day and travel to another island, then come to Harbor Q! Don't be fooled by this tiny little place. Their food is full of flavor.

As soon as you are seated, you are given homemade chips with homemade cheese sauce for dipping. This complimentary appetizer is addicting, so pace yourself.

The menu is small, but the meat is fresh, seasoned uniquely with a BBQ flavor and a Hawaiian touch! My favorite dishes off the menu are: brisket, pulled pork and the mac & cheese.

  2. It's a great place to go when you want bbq without having to trek into the city limits for it.  Service is great and attentive, my was always filled when it was half empty.

    So far I've ordered:
    Hawg Leg
    Texas smoked beef sausage
    NC pulled pork
    Brisket platter
Full baby back rib, half wet/half dry
    Smoked pork on the bone
    Mac & Cheese
    Collard Green
    Cole Slaw
    BBQ Beans
    Corn bread

Even this non beer beer drinker appreciated the fantastic selection of craft beers they have on hand as well.  Great waters views with great food and drinks, it is worth the trip out from the city.

  3. For BBQ, especially in the area, this is as good as it gets! The cornbread is AMAZING. My mom and I always get (and sometimes split) the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. That dish is simply amazing. We've also tried their butternut squash soup when it was on special. It was so unique and very good. If my waistline would allow it, I would eat here even more often.

  4. Surprise find in the middle of Port Washington, who would have thought there was decent bbq out here?  Read the reviews before heading out here and I don't really understand some of the hate this place has gotten (although they were all seemingly based on chicken dishes but I'll get to that).

Restaurant is located in a nondescript area and could be easy to miss.  Interior is cozy and decor is what you expect for a bbq joint.  Everything starts with their home made hand cut potato chips which are fantastic.  Beef ribs were really good and perfectly smoked.  Baby back ribs were also good but the ends of the rack were a bit dried out from the process.  Pork osso bucco in peach sauce was also a nice balance of smoky and sweet.  Pulled chicken seemed a bit dry and I can see where it would have put some people off.  Selection of sauces is good but the best one is the california tangy gold, which was quite tasty.

Sides were decent although the collard greens could have used more ham flavor.  Prices are decent, on the same level as what you expect from chain bbq joints.  Service was excellent and the server was incredibly polite.  Great choice if you're craving bbq in the area.

  5. I go to Harbor Q for only one reason: The spice rubbed smoked jumbo Texas wings. They are the best wings I have ever tasted in my life. So tender and flavorful; the chicken just falls off of the bone. It is a nice departure from the deep fried, soaked in Frank's sauce wings that everyone else is doing. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night craving these wings. Then I fall back to sleep and have pleasant dreams about them.

I also always order the 'Buffalo Soldiers': eggrolls filled with buffalo chicken and gorgonzola…YEAH!

Nine thumbs up for Harbor Q!!!

  6. My first experience with the BBQ joint was when they first opened….I wasn't really impressed. Atmosphere is good, some of the tables are a little tight and there is enough parking, but it's pricey compared to say Famous Dave's (Westbury) or Smokin Al's (Massapequa) and in my opinion the food is at least a notch below those places.

So I decided that I wanted ribs since I was watching that Barbecue Masters show one afternoon. I didn't feel like driving to the other places, so I checked online and it said it was under new ownership, so I decided to try it out again…. Well it's the same food and owner as before. Don't see myself going again..it's a shame cause it could be a great lil BBQ place but it is what it is.

Almost forgot….I have never seen a BBQ place have brunch before, so I guess times are tough for them.

  7. Don't really know if this is good or bad: caught them at lunch with nobody in the place.

Waitress was really nice, complimentary potato chips with a nice cheese dip.

Ordered the brisket platter which was just "meh." I think if I went for dinner it would be a better deal. Don't write them off on this review.

I'd try them again, but for dinner.

  8. I wasn't even going to waste my time reviewing this restaurant, but when I saw all the good reviews, I knew I had to warn my fellow foodies. This place is awful. Truthfully, the only edible thing here is the water and the complimentary fresh chips with blue cheese "fondue"– it's hot blue cheese, but they call it fondue. I have eaten here twice– got the pulled pork sandwich and the pulled chicken quesadilla, I ate one triangle of the quesadilla and cut my losses. I wish this place had better food because it's close to my home and office, but just a no all around. I have heard they make good salads, but they charge a la carte for every salad item/topper, which gets expensive.
