Can't wait to return! This was one of the best if not the best pizza I ever had. Very light, great toppings and I came out feeling like I actually ate something healthy. I ordered the margherita and added mushroom and chicken to it with only a drizzle of their hot bird sauce. The crust was perfect the toppings were perfect and without any visible oil or that unsightly grease. My next step is to try it with steak instead .
Update: Tried the steak and it wasn't my cup of tea. I couldn't figure out exactly what topping/s I didn't like as the pizza just had too much going on. The steak I didn't care for as well but they do top it very generously with it.
This place truly has a great group of workers. The cooks and waitress are very accommodating and friendly to ensure a good experience for their guests which is very appreciated.
I would venture to say this is THE BEST pizza in Harlem at the moment, especially if you are looking for something a little more gourmet. It is a small restaurant and they have outdoor seating, which is nice. We had the Mixed Green salad, which was tasty and sized nicely for two people. For our pizza we had the Alper, which we chose mostly because it sounded so unique. The star ingredient is Sujuk, which is a Turkish beef sausage. While the pizza was very good, this particular combination was a little too much for me. My companion, a guy who loves meats of all kinds, really enjoyed it. I think that one is best to get if you are sharing a variety of pizzas with a group of people. The flavor is so strong that I would have liked to offset it with something more neutral like the Margarita. The taste of the sausage reminded me a little of hotdogs and was very overpowering because the crust is very thin and I didn't feel that the meat ratio was quite balanced enough. I think if there was less meat on the pizza I may have liked it better.
Despite the fact that I didn't love The Alper, I did think the pizza itself was very good. The ingredients seem fresh and of good quality. I enjoyed the taste of the crust, sauce and cheese. As some have mentioned the pizzas are quite small, but this wouldn't deter me from coming back. I think this place is pretty solid and definitely recommend it.
I rarely write reviews and give 2 stars. But so many things about this place rubbed me the wrong way.
First of all its 50 degrees out and you have everyone exposed to the cold with your front windows open. No one wants to sit outside in that weather.
I was already a little suspicious of the price I was paying for such a small pizza. But hey, if it tastes good, I won't complain. Welp the taste wasn't worth the price at all. I got the"hot bird". The dough was decent. The chicken was gross-some of it was really rubbery. The hot sauce was pretty good. Overall though, It was really hard to eat. The arugula was the most plentiful thing on it and as you bite into it…it goes everywhere. Hot sauce all over the place-ehh. Very underwhelming. *note-no cheese critique is mentioned
When I ordered I asked if I could substitute the Gorgonzola for something else. I was given a confident yes. So I asked for broccoli rabe. When I I let my boyfriend try a piece and he made me realize there was no cheese. No Gorgonzola (like I asked-thanks for doing that right) and no mozzarella (wtf -didn't ask for that). But I decided not to complain because honestly whatever-I wasn't waiting for another one and I wasn't that impressed in general.
So as we sat there and waited for a check that didn't come we decided to get up and pay at the register. We were not shown an itemized bill but we were just asked to pay. So simple math told us something didn't add up. They charged me $3 for the substitution. So I recounted my conversation with the waiter and they said "oh well he's new. We don't do substitutions." At this point most eating establishments would take responsibility for their waiter and take the $3 off. Nope they blamed the waiter and didn't take ownership of their establishment. How about you train him or don't let him wait tables until he has his stuff together. She apologized again because they were "busy". I'm sorry but 10 people inside your place should be able to be handled appropriately. Especially when you can see everyone. So when I also said I'm paying $3 more dollars when I not only was told substitutions were okay but I didn't have mozzarella either. They responded with "yes you did". Well I guess it's possible you put one piece of mozzarella on it and it got lost in the sea of arugula (I believe that means your recipe sucks) or you forgot to put it on there (you're so "busy" I guess that's possible) or the "new" waiter put down no cheese at all (definitely possible).
But anyway. Rant over. Never ever going back.
welcomed addition to the 'hood and they deliver!!
Have gotten delivery from here 2x. both times the pies were still warm and crunch and delicious. Looking forward to dining there some time.
Stopped by when one in my party was starving and we were all ready for the complaining to cease. Turns out that what I'd hoped to be a decent experience was beyond so good. I'm debating between 4 or 5 stars for a few reasons. However, I can tell you that the gentleman who makes the pies is good at what he does and makes it look so good. Ahem.
So I greedily gulped two glasses of their only Prosecco. Then tried some of their beers starting with one whose name escapes me but then the special of the evening was a sweet peach tasting beer which is so my go-to for next time. They had some delicious sounding specials for the evening but my group was tame and so we opted to share from the standard menú.
Out came the margherita and alper pies. Wow and yum. The Margherita had a soft, yet crisp crust that was thick enough for the sauce but light enough for the fresh mozzarella. And the Alper. Hm. Let's just say that we all had an eye on getting the last slice. Fingerlicking good. The sausage used was thinly sliced and a perfect compliment to the pie. Almost forgot to mention our shared dessert: the Nutella calzone. Two words: Try it. (Or: Do it. Or: Must have. Get it)
All pies are made to order and so you get to see the skillful chef work his craft. We were seated front and center, halfway inside and halfway out so we got to enjoy the views. I was skeptical of the wait time–maybe too much– but the owner who happened to be nonchalantly enjoying a pie himself made sure all was well. Gotta love great service. I will gladly return and see if this service and product are consistent.
Walk on in, seat yourself and have a glass while you wait. Cheers!
I'm not a fan of pizza, but this place I would venture to again. My baby seemed to love it and the employees here are friendly. The dough is nice and fresh. There is this type of cheese pizza with no red sauce that was decent. I added mushrooms and it was ok!
