I have got enough of this place already. 2 weeks ago they said we can come in, the bar is open and within next 5 minutes, they locked the door leaving us out waiting for our friend.
Tonight we got here and seated by the hostess very quick however no one came up to our table for 15 minutes. Come on! It is 21.45 already and I can't wait for you to come and tell me that the kitchen is closed as if I was not on time. No 3rd chance! Don't waste your time and money!
Meh…
I came here recently while on a little trip with my husbands family. We were nearby for them to see the Empire State building for the first time (their first time to NY). Since I had already been to the Empire State Building and was quite hungry, I let them do the tour, while I decided to stop here and grab something to eat.
I had a drink here once before when we first visited, and was impressed with the overall restaurant ambiance; hence the reason why I was curious to actually dine here.
I was seated fairly quickly at a table close to the bar area. It was perfect for me. My server was a little dull from the beginning, but nothing horrendous. I started with a dirty martini for my drink. It was made perfect 🙂 They have a delicious sounding menu, with plenty of hearty sounding options. I ended up ordering one of their Heartland Ground Beef Burger. It does not come with cheese, so I added Swiss cheese I believe. It also comes with fry's, however I opted out for a salad instead.
Burger arrived looking less than spectacular. Taste wise, it was certainly average at best – decent sized patty, but nothing special. Salad also looked a little lifeless- didn't really touch it.
Overall, I would possibly stop in again for a drink, but can't say I would be eager to order any food.
Very touristy brewery in the city. I mean, it's inside the Empire State building. The venue is nice and staff is decent. The low rating is for the beer. To classify yourself as a brewery, your beer has to be decent and I was left unimpressed. The IPA lacked crispness, the beer comes out chilled, but not enough. It warmed up quickly. The pilsner tasted like water.
Bathroom is downstairs. Plenty of TVs to watch sports.
I've been meaning to try this spot since it's so close to work and I was finally able to with coworkers when the line for Chik-fil-A was too long. 🙂
The space is huge with even more seating downstairs, which I find preferable. I split the buffalo wings and chicken tenders and both were good but not great, as expected of a touristy spot like this. I just think the food is really overpriced for what it is but this IS located at the base of the Empire State Building.
Stopped by here after going to the Empire State Building to check out the brewery and its beers. It was easy to get seats downstairs and the place is well decorated. Just be ready to shell out $20+ for a plate of food and $8 for a pint. Prices are not surprising since it's right in the middle of town/next to tourist spots. Okay place to just stop for a beer. Lots of other great places to eat around the brewery.
I give a 3 star for the service but a 5 star for the experience, so I split the difference. Now that that is out the way I can explain.
Son & I came here before we were to go visit The Empire State Bldg. He was excited because he had never been so he wanted to stop for a drink before we went up. We sat at the bar next to a young couple. Son asked dude what he was drinking & he said (In a Heavy Irish Accent) Indiana Pale Ale it's good here taste it & hands the glass to my son. It was good. Come to find out dude & Lady were here on their Honeymoon from Belfast, Ireland!
So I order the Indiana Pale Ale & a shot of Avion Tequila which I really enjoyed. Very smooth & warming. Son ordered Grey Goose & Pineapple Juice. Then 2 sisters show up & son buys a round of shots of some stuff the bartender Sunny reccommended. Apple something….not to our liking or to the couple but the sisters liked it.
It's about 1:30 now & we all had another round, laughed, talked got to know each other & decided to meet up at some bar later for trivia night. I said we'd go IF we were still here.
Needless to say we didn't make it up to the Empire State Bldg at that moment. But the drinks were good. The service slow & haphazard. We had to keep trying to get the bartenders attention until finally a guy, maybe another bartender came to help us out. It wasn't that crowded & there were several seats open at the bar. So I'm not sure what happened.
I'd go back for drinks but probably not stay long. The company we met made the experience fun.
This was a pretty cool spot! The ambience and atmosphere were cozy and intimate. Some girlfriends and I came here for dinner and I was happy with the menu selection. Prices weren't too bad for New York City and I was able to get something how I wanted it to be. I ordered grilled chicken plain. I also asked about the check in free dessert, which is cheesecake but I'm lactose intolerant so I can't eat it so they gave me something else. The reason why the review is getting 4/5 stars is because the server really could've been more pleasant. You're waiting on younger women, the least you could do is put a smile on or try to work harder for a tip. He just seemed like he wanted us in and out, didn't try to upsell us either.
****Drinks Only Review****
The best thing Heartland Brewery has going for it is its location. Connected to the Empire State Building, this makes a perfect spot to go either before or after your trip up to the top. My friends in New York, being native New Yorkers, had no interest in accompanying Bryan W. And I to the top of the ESB. They finished watching the Euro match at Heartland instead while we did the touristy thing. We met up with them afterwards just for drinks.
Heartland serves locally brewed beer so I was looking forward to sampling that since I try to go local when I travel. I like how they have 1/2 pint and full pint portions. What I didn't like-they were out of the apricot ale. Instead I had their Saison which was slightly heavier than what I wanted but still a refreshing beverage. Bryan W. Had the harvest wheat in a half pint. I tried it and It was fine, nothing special. Our friends Brian and Sabrina Q. Ordered the Empire lager and a mixed drink, respectively, and enjoyed both. I didn't see any good coming out that wowed me-think basic bar-, but I would say this is a nice place to pause and regroup before carrying on with the Rest of the day. Cheers!
