Been meaning to come to Heatonist since it opened up a few months back. I finally had free time and whilst in the area, why not. I only got a couple straight forward comments for a straight forward, small, basic shop but a clean, cool and interesting concept of a store.
Do I like hot sauce? Yes.
Am I a fan of hot sauce? For sure.
How many bottles of hot sauce are in my fridge? A good handful.
How many different hot sauces have I tried in all my years of hot saucin'? Over 100.
I wish I could have sampled all of them. But I only tried three to not be hot sauce greedy: Mike's Hot Honey, a NYC labelled one with graffiti label and one where the cool and really friendly host asked me if I liked mustard…whoo yeah mustard hot was a better kicker than the Hot Honey, which is more sweet from the honey then a medium heat kicks in. The NYC graffiti labelled bottle has a medium kick also.
The only problem is when you walk in, which of the many, many, many bottles and jars to choose from. Besides the label, how do I know which is worthy of buying? Well anyway, $12 a bottle for Hot Honey is worth the honey and hot sauce in supporting a novelty, hipster, unique concept.
There's also a backroom, I'm guessing for making hot sauce or hosting tasting events?
This store is awesome. At first I was absolutely skeptical of a concept like this but I took a chance, bought a cross section of sauces and I will never go back to boring Tabasco again. Sriracha will always have a place in my heart but a well crafted, artisanal hot sauce is amazing. They don't stock bad hot sauce – so get here and try something new. Your taste buds will thank you.
I loooooove hot sauce that this place was MUST GO shop for me. They let you taste many sauce to choose for purchase. I probably tasted 10 different kinds… lol
They have sweet dessert side and very clean tasting sauce. All are wonderful. I ended purchasing 3;-)
They can ship you the sauce you even if you live in outside of The U.S They were nice people :-;
Heatonist is a curated hot sauce and condiment purveyor in hipster Williamsburg. The selection is incredible and varied, covering multiple types of peppers, combinations with fruits or honeys or other vegetables, sours and sweets. The store is small, but well stocked and appealing to the eye. Most notably, they have a taster bar, where you and your friends can sample any of the wares, compare spice levels, and triple dog dare each other to lick the hottest of the hot. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, expertly talking up each of the sauces and trying to match you with your dream condiment. They also put together gift boxes for your favorite heatonist/masochist.
Hot Sauce!!! Who doesn't love Hot Sauces!!
I have been trying to come here for a couple months and I'm glad I finally got to it yesterday!
I spent a little time speaking with the lady and found out great things to do with the hot sauces that I bought.. I can use some in drinks, on salads, fish food. The advise she provided was amazing!
It was great to find out that there are also open kitchen nights when we can taste the food with the sauces and that they filter out unpopular ones and use new rotations. They have seasonal sauces as well and a new collaboration they are working on which I'm excited to try.
I purchased 4 different ones yesterday; can't wait to finish them so I can go back for more.
If you love sauces.. This is the place for you– Not all of them are spicy/hot so it's worth a little kick in your butt to try some of them out– Trust me you wont be disappointed.
Do you like hot sauce? I mean, do you REALLY like hot sauce? Then the Heatonist is for you. Walked by on the way to the Wythe Hotel and just had to stop in. They have all sorts of local and nationally made hot sauces, and had about 30 bottles lined up on their bar for you to taste. Had some super awesome stuff, and the two employees were great with their recommendations.
They also have a back room for private events. We were told there was a catered event going on that involved a lot of their hot sauces, but it was too late to get in. Oh well, maybe next time!
My brother is a hot sauce collector, so it's fitting I took him here on his most recent trip out. The host was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about her hot sauces. We tried over a dozen different kinds (they have samplers of ALL of their sauces) and finally settled on two favorites. They also have a large kitchen space in the back, which the host said is for private parties. How cool is that?!
Are you a fan of fiery sensations, aka a "heatonist" (the best new culinary term of the year)? If so, then this shop is for you!
Opened just last week, the dust is literally still settling on the minimal wooden shelves of this hot sauce sanctuary, which will also double as a music venue once construction is complete.
The shop features a couple dozen different indie brands with a few different varieties of each. All of the bottles and spice blends are insanely original and are produced for the most part in small batches by little producers around America, with of course a nice range of Brooklyn-made blends.
After tasting about a half dozen different sauces my face was on fire but I was still able to pick out the one that I loved most: a habañero carrot curry sauce from a small brand out of Portland called Marshall's Haute Sauce.
Priced between $10-$14 a bottle, the sauces make cool gifts for the gourmet daredevil in your life or just a nice unexpected twist to your regular arsenal of spices.
