Location: WASHINGTON HEIGHT!! The home of columbia medical center! Heights Tavern is definitely the place for medical students to hang out.
Their food is pricy
but salad is very delicious!
many kinds of beer
Full disclosure I'm commenting solely on the food and ambiance here since I came for an event and can't speak on behalf of service at all.
All the items I had were really flavorful and delicious. The fried chicken and waffles, fried chicken corn bread sliders, and seafood ceviche were the highlights for me. Yes, this was gluttonous comfort food goodness right here. Really brought the calorie laden items here. But hey, you gotta treat yourself every now and then right? But yeah, the food was really good. The vibe was cool because the space was so large. I loved the interior brick. It had lots of TVs so watching sports here would be really great if you're looking for a multi-game venue. Seemed to have a lot of beers on draft as well. All the servers/bartenders I encountered were friendly. I would definitely come back up here if I'm up in the area.
The decor is great, and it's a nice spot in the afternoon — an especially great reprieve from the House of Awful/Mediocrity known as COOGAN's. But I can't really love it.
For one, why is the music turned up SO DAMN LOUD?! It's hard to talk to your friends or even a stranger when the Jackson Five are blaring at level 11 in the background. Second, the bar has this really bizarre policy when you request TVs get turned to certain channels. You can't just say "Turn on TNT or ESPN, please." You have to state the exact matchup, and they get really pissy if you don't. I'm a regular TNT Thursday NBA viewer (regardless of game), and this is pretty annoying given that the cable "guide" feature lists by both program title AND channel.
Food is serviceable, but the sliders/burgers are better.
Update: I came here for a yelp elite event and the new brunch menu is pretty baller. The chicken & waffles was on point. The churro French toast with nutella is to die for. I could eat this every day if I had the metabolism of a superhero but sadly I do not. Their salad with mandarin oranges is refreshing as well. They also had a poached egg on top of guac on top of pumpernickel (maybe?) Bread that was delicious. I'm allergic to fish but my boyfriend said the fish filet was incredible. The fish was perfectly cooked and didn't have that weird taste that fish does sometimes, and the bread was fantastic.
I'd previously been to heights Tavern multiple times with subpar service so I was hesitant to return because it's pretty pricey for the neighborhood but this new menu might warrant a return trip. Kudos to the chefs!
I wish I liked this place more, but it just seems so run-of-the-mill. They have a good number of taps, but they're all pretty mediocre beers…think Shock Top, Bud Light, Goose Island. Fine, but nothing I'd come out of my way for, since you can get the same selection at a million other bars in New York. As a couple of other reviewers have noted, service is really sub-par. The bartenders seemed more interested in chatting with each other/friends than serving. There's a serious sports bar vibe going on here – lots of TVs at the bar, and scattered throughout the restaurant. So this might be a decent spot to come watch a game, and it's big enough to fit a nice large group. But as far as a casual drink, go somewhere else.
I came here randomly after an event and I would definitely return. My friends and I got here at around 3pm and we still had time to eat brunch. Brunch ends at 4 so we weren't able to do bottomless drinks but we were given a drink with our order.
One friend ordered the pizza and it was really good- cooked just right. I wouldn't order it myself because I'm more of the breakfast kind of food for brunch but its worth it. My other friend ordered the banana pancakes and the pancakes were rough. They did not have a great consistency and were hard to chew. I ordered the corn flake friend french toast-YUM. I never had anything fried in corn flakes. There was definitely a lot going on especially since there was syrup and dulce de leche sauce.
I would come back here, there prices are great and our server was attentive and friendly.
Nice place for drinks ONLY. The food took waaaaaaay too long, it took over an hr for the main course to be served. People who were seated after us finished and left. The waiter came to us and asked if we was done…when we were only served with the drinks and appetizers!! Where the main course?! We didn't even feel like eating anymore when the main course came. The salmon I got was burnt and the inside was cold! The salmon was def not worth $22. Thought the salmon came with side dishes but guess not. Would definitely not recommend this place.
A good sport bar to watch soccer games, especially in this country where this game is supposed to be for women, haha you don't know what you are missing… This is REAL football. For some logic reason it has that name, right? Or do you call it hand-football?
Anyway, back to the joint. A nice sports ambience with lots and lots of big TVs so you can't miss a single play and the area is pretty big so it's very comfortable.
Regarding food, well… It's a sports bar…
I came here for a Yelp event and they treated us amazingly with plenty of food, sitting area and a private setting for all of us including a bar with bloody mary selections. They were too spicy for me.
The food was placed in heated pans like a buffet so we got to taste everything. There was and there is too much chicken in the menu. I personally don't like to eat chicken because of hormones and all kinds of weird stuff involving this animal. I stopped eating chicken when I moved to NYC so I'm not commenting on those dishes except that it was all fried, sliders, chicken and waffles and a chicken Caesar salad. Nothing worth the effort.
The other stuff was pretty good. A seafood ceviche which was delicious. A egg benedict over a black bread with guacamole, top notch! An a delicious and I guess sugar bomb, donut-french toast-cinnamon roll-whatever the heck was for dessert.
Good place to watch games not eating but if you like to take a bite I would go with the brunch menu.
