I'm glad someone has already reviewed this place, since I looked months ago and couldn't find a Yelp page for it. This service is awful. My friend gave me a free week's worth of food. The food was fine, but not as exciting or innovative or tasty as other do-it-yourself food delivery packages. And it arrived a day late! I use another food package delivery service regularly and my food always arrives on time. The Hello Fresh box did not arrive on time for me and it was sitting around for an extra day!!! I called their customer service and was on hold for 30 minutes until they hung up on me! I submitted a complaint via email and they called me the next day and had an attitude about when my food was going to arrive.
I used the first package but canceled my subscription right away. Less than a week later, I started getting multiple calls a day from Hello Fresh representatives wanting to talk about my experience. Oh, so now they wanted to talk AFTER my food was late? I kept declining their calls and telling them not to call me. They kept calling at least once a day for a week until I just blocked their number. So persistent and annoying. If their late delivery and mediocre food didn't dissuade me from continuing my subscription with them, their annoying calls certainly did. The same thing happened with a friend of mine when she used this service.
I strongly encourage everyone to NOT use Hello Fresh. There are plenty of other food delivery services that are much better.
I guess I'm lucky. While no longer a subscriber, my experience with HelloFresh was positive.
HelloFresh was my first foray into meal delivery boxes. I got approximately three boxes before I decided to cancel my subscription. I subscribed to the vegetarian box option for three meals a week. It's a bummer that you can't currently choose your meals with this option; it did cause me to skip entire weeks because of it.
From a portion perspective, I have no complaints. Most times, I got an entire extra serving out of my meals and I don't consider myself a dainty eater. The ingredients, for the most part, were very fresh. The only ingredient I had trouble with more than once was corn. It wasn't a total loss, but there were parts of the ear that got mushy in transit.
What led to my decision to cancel HelloFresh was trying Plated. With HelloFresh, I either really liked my meals or felt they were bland. While Tyler Florence ones were usually pretty reliable, it felt like for every tasty one, there was a bland one. I also didn't like that I couldn't see other subscriber's ratings and comments. I was curious if people had ideas to make the bland dishes more flavorful. Also, when compared to Plated, there was more packaging waste. Lastly, Plated offers a 2-meal a week option, which worked out better for me.
The only service-related issue I found annoying related to a delivery expected right after a holiday weekend. I got several notices that I should change my delivery date because there would likely be delays. Seems like it would've been easier for them to proactively reschedule deliveries instead. Otherwise, my only real critique is that the packaging Plated offers seems to create less waste, which I really like.
Cancelling was easy, I could do it right through the website. When you cancel, you're offered the option to go monthly or every other week. I did consider that option, but in the end didn't want to be managing two different meal company schedules. Like mentioned before, I also liked Plated's option of two meals a week better. As a single person, box weeks felt very harried with HelloFresh. If I ate it all on my own, I had 6-8 meals (higher end when portions were big) I had to figure out when to cook and eat all of my food. A couple of lunch dates or evening plans could make me race to cook everything before the perishables started to turn dodgy.
Bottom line, if I ever break up with Plated, I'd come back.
