I recently stumbled upon this delicious dessert during Hester Street Fair's "Ice Cream Social." Of all the ice cream stands that were available, this one definitely stood out as it wasn't an ice cream dish, but an actual dessert that served as a meal for me that day. The two guys and one lovely lady who were managing this stand were super friendly and very grateful for every customer they had. As we were standing there, they engaged in so much conversation with us and you could really see how appreciative they were of every person who stopped by and placed an order.
They serve your traditional halo halo and have two other options, with a twist. There was a Brazilian version that was sweet and a Chinese version that was nutty. Since this was my first time trying halo halo, I stuck with the traditional version. It was good! The shaved ice, milk and all the toppings really all worked together perfectly. It was made to order and the quality of the ingredients and time they put into making the dessert really showed. It was good, could be a little sweeter (maybe it's not supposed to be) and there was ample toppings. I had the chance to try the Chinese version and if you like the nutty taste, you'll definitely love this one.
All in all, definitely a unique booth you'll find at your local fair and definitely worth trying. $8 is a little steep in my opinion, but it's worth trying at least once.
