  1. Oh Henry my Henry. Thou' shall not leave the Upper West Side of Manhattan without dining here.

One has to order the Chilaquiles for Brunch. It is a Mexican-American fusion brunch that is savory and will still leave your mouth watering for more! The black beans was a bit soupier than I had anticipated, but paired with the cheesy tortilla chips – it was incredible.

I also ordered the homemade sausage on the side and can say this was by far my favorite part of the meal. The sausage was authentic and flavorful. Plus, you get about 5 per order. That's so many. Talk about bang for your buck!

On top of the food, the service was exceptional. The waitress we had was friendly, quirky, and outgoing. She was extremely helpful when making a decision – only because I wanted to order everything on the menu. It's okay. It's my life. Overall, I was very pleased with this place and I'm sure you will be too!

  2. Henry's is the "local" UWS spot. Being up here every day for work makes a visit to Henry's inevitable. Not bad.

At first glance, Henry's seems like a place that would be pretentious. It is, a little bit, but in a forgiving manner. A majority of my visits have been to the bar for happy hour. This is probably the best time; the drinks are good and it's kind of cantina style where the longer you booze the more nibblets come your way from the kitchen. Grilled peppers, olives, etc.

    Nice touch.

Service is good, although I always seem to be there when Henry himself is around. Curious to see if the poor service reviews are accurate when he heads out.

  3. Went for drinks and small family gathering. Bartenders were friendly and helpful. Meatball appetizer was good. Would return.

  4. Ok, the owner's thoughtful and positive responses to my and other reviews makes me add another star which brings them up to 5 stars.  It's really rare when an owner cares and is that thoughtful an positive in response to criticism.  If you go to Henry's and are not satisfied with any part of your meal I think you should tell them then and there, which I did not do, I just saved all my bitching for my review 🙂

My original review:  Our excellent red-haired waitress bumps them up to 4 stars. They were very patient when half our party was almost an hour late. I'd describe it as American Bistro fare and they feature New York State wines etc.  A complimentary hunk of bread was served with some delicious garlic infused oil.  My mussels ($19) were big and juicy and a very generous portion but also had a lot of grit in them and the sauce was a little bland.  I probably should have sent them back due to the grit, but I didn't.  I also didn't really love my overly sweet $11 Pimms Cup cocktail.  On the plus side, the $12 profiterole dessert was actually 3 pieces, so that seemed generous.  Espresso ($3) was OK, but I wished it was served with some lemon or orange rind.

Overall my impression of the food and drink was "meh" but the service was excellent.  We enjoyed our relaxed meal and I would eat there again…. I just wasn't scheming to go back as soon as I'd left, if you known what I mean.

  5. So my bae and I are all about live jazz music. We saw a sign that they have live jazz with drink specials on Saturdays.  We went in.  The bartender was very cool.  They only had mimosas and bloody Mary's as their special for $5.  The jazz music was 2 men playing instruments. The music was low and not very good.  We didn't stay long.  We saw a blind man leave because his food never came out after a very long wait.  I hardly can judge this place because it's just on the music and observations, but we won't be returning. 45 minutes was more than enough for us.  Maybe if they liven up the music and have cooler drink specials-otherwise, not for us.

  7. 3.5 stars rounded up for the excellent service.  I have to start off by saying that my experience here may differ from other peoples' due to the fact that I was at a holiday party here, and the entire space was rented out.  So obviously my experience wouldn't be an every day occurrence.

Service here was superb. Drinks were delivered very quickly and the food service overall was excellent.  The amount of time between courses was perfect.

For my appetizer, I decided on the mushroom ravioli which had many different types of mushrooms and was literally soaked in truffle oil.  So much truffle oil… almost too much truffle oil, if such a concept exists!  The ravioli was flavorful as were the mushrooms, but I'm biased – I love all kinds of mushrooms.  Would I order this as a regular entree?  Questionable.  I also had one of the SO's mushroom spring rolls with a thin hoisin sauce – the feedback all around for these was they were excellent, and I'd have to agree.  For a place that isn't "Asian" at all, these spring rolls were excellent – hot and fresh.

The entree was where it went a little bit downhill for myself and friends. We got the strip steak with brussel sprouts and french fries.  We all ordered medium rare, but the steak all came out medium to well-done.  Huge disappointment all aorund.  Other than that, the sprouts were flavorful and the fries were pretty standard.

The dessert was excellent, but you can't really mess up molten chocolate lava cake.  It was super, super "molten" – a little too much, but can't complain too much about that.  The pistachio ice cream (not sure if it is house-made) was excellent.  I love a hot and cold combo!

For a holiday party, Henry's was an excellent venue – it held our party very well and the service was excellent.  Food could have been better in some aspects, but for a large party like us, I think they handled it fairly well.

  8. The inside is roomy and with tall ceilings, with lots of wooden walls surrounding the interior of the restaurant. Each table is dressed with cute blue and white gingham tablecloths, very warm and welcoming feel invites you in.

Food was "ok", a bit pricey on some items, like burger for $16 that does not come with any side (like side salad or fries). The service was not that great either.
