Hi Thai
“A friend and I had a bottle of wine, beef pad thai, and the chicken green curry, all for under fifty bucks.”
“I got the pad kee mao and it was soooo good but spicy (my friend said it wasn't all that spicy tho).”
“The papaya salad as well as their house salad was really refreshing and the portions were quite large (the peanut dressing on the house salad was espec memorable).”

I've been here a few times, always with friends visiting town for a few days wanting to catch up, because this place has great deals on bottles of wine – seriously, where else can you get not-too-cheap of wine for $14 a bottle? Not many places in NYC.
Oh, and the food's good too – I always order pad see yu (which seems to be spelled differently on almost every menu I order off of), and I appreciate the fact that this place let's me customize it a bit more (if asked) – that is, for $2 more, I can get them to add eggplant to my pad see yu, which is something I haven't been able to get most restaurants to try.
So overall, good food, good cheap wine, and a relatively nice atmosphere that never seems too crowded. A good place to try if you're in the area and hungry or want to catch up over some (or a lot of) wine.
Very reasonable prices, no wait, good food, and able to accommodate our party of 10 (plus one kid) on a Saturday night at 8pm. The fellas enjoyed the buckets of Chang beer (6 for $15) and the girls in our party sipped on hot sake and thai iced teas. Solid restaurant.
The delivery guy didn't speak a word of English, so that was a little annoying, but I can deal with that. Mediocre food, however, I have a hard time bouncing back from. Pretty underwhelming.
I ordered the noodle soup lunch special, and I chose beef as my protein, broad noodles as my noodle selection, and for my broth, I requested brown soup with Thai herbs. Sad to say, I will not be ordering from here again. My Seamless order arrived in a timely manner, but that's the only plus. Anyway, back to the issue of the food. I ordered a noodle soup, but both the noodles and the soup (packaged separately) arrived in pint sized containers. I had to drink half the soup, and I couldn't add all the noodles in at once. So that was pretty messy. Also, the noodles were THIN rice noodles and clumped together. The broth was bland, and the beef slices in it were tough and overcooked.
Hi Thai? More like Bye Thai. Sorry, but I won't be reordering. There are too many delish Thai restaurants in the area for me to settle for this one.
The Quick: The food was crazy inexpensive and fairly good, if you could get over the awful odor that smelt like S!$&*
The Details: It was a drunken Friday night and we were all looking for something quick, greasy, and delicious. This spot has an $18 special for appetizer entrée and cocktail… Doesn't get much better than that.
The Tom Young soup tasted how it smells in there… Not good. The entrées were actually delicious we all enjoyed them and the cocktails are great. But the back table near the bathroom/kitchen smells horrific. We were all drunk and still could barely survive.
Pro Tip: Sit in the front near the window.
The Damage: $18 + tax/tip each
I like Hi Thai because it is very close to where I live and inexpensive. Came here with a group of 4, and we all ordered the dinner specials for $15 and $18 (a very good deal).
I had the Thai Salad for the appetizer, which was huge. Definitely enough for a light meal. For the main entree, I had the green curry. I asked the server if I could substitute the green curry for the red curry, and was promptly told no, so beware. The green curry was also a huge portion (seems to be a theme for the restaurant). There were plenty of veggies and pieces of chicken in the curry, but it was incredibly spicy. You can also get non-alcoholic drinks for the $15 dinner special, and alcoholic drinks for the $18 dinner special.
Overall, our food came quickly and will leave you very full. The food is nothing to write about–just your cheap average neighborhood Thai place. If you're in the area and craving cheap Asian, then I definitely recommend. But it's definitely not somewhere you should travel to.
Hi. I am here to review this Thai. This placed called Hi Thai.
To cut to the chase, this is not the best Thai food you'll have in New York but it surely will satisfy your craving…and for the well-cared-for penny rather than a pretty one. I've never eaten in-house but enjoy ordering pick-up for two specific dishes, the chili fried chicken and the boiled ginger chicken. The fried chicken is a super lightly fried thin single breast cut in slices over a bed of coconut rice and cilantro. Aside it is a lovely sweet, sour, and spicy chili sauce that pairs with it perfectly. The ginger chicken is something like their version of the street food khao man gai, which is chicken boiled in herbs over rice with a side of spicy, tangy, ginger sauce. All of their lunch specials come with a vegetables in chicken broth which serves as a pseudo broth palette cleanser that the man gai normally has. In addition to the soup for just $7.95 plus tax you also get the choice of one appetizers (i.e. spring roll, summer roll, salad with chili lime dressing). If I have any qualms about how they cook their food it's that they overcook chicken sometimes…it can be tough but at least you know it's cooked. Beware that the credit card minimum is $10.00 so if you aren't getting a Thai tea stop at a local ATM or order pick-up through Seamless to avoid the complication.
While it's not the most notable option on Ludlow, it's a great place for a no-frills lunch at an affordable price. Without 'reservations,' I'm a regular.
Came here on a Wednesday night to celebrate with a bunch of girlfriends, and this restaurant turned into the worst experience in my dining book.
The food was decent, the portions was big so there was no compliant here. Despite the food being a saving grace, if the management (or lack of) doesn't change, I hope the restaurant is able to keep open despite the lack of service and horrible treatment that I received from the staff.
I have worked previously in hospitality and the restaurant biz for over two years, and the service I received tonight was disgusting. I hope no other patrons have to ever go through this.
There were two waitress running the restaurant, and when the check came I never received my card back to sign for the bill. My group went outside to wait while I went to the front counter to retrieve my card. I asked the waitress for my card and all I received was blank stares then continue to turn her back to me and other customers to work on take out orders behind her. The waitress continue to ignore me for a few minutes (I understand that they were backed up), but it wasn't until she turned around and proceed to tell me that she CANNOT find my card and asked me to provide another card for payment then I realize what was going on. Cannot find my card? When a patron provides a card for payment, you have ONE responsibility, to process the payment (which, tip was already included) and RETURN my card to me. There was no apology, and I was ask for another form of payment.
Eventually, after several persistence questioning, the waitress realized she had given my card to another patron. Now, mind you people make mistakes. During the whole transition, it was the lack of response and that frustrated me the most. There were no manager on site, and my issue would not have gotten resolve if I did not continue to question and stay. There were simply no assistant from the waitress. I understand if you are busy and back up, and in return I was penalize for the restaurant's shortcomings by dining here.
Word of advice: The lack of response and the way my situation was handled, I hope never happens to another patron that dines here. If you are going to have short staff without a manager or supervisor of some short, at least have a stronger staff that can handle accidents and mishaps.
On a mission to eat my way through the LES! Haha i stopped here for lunch today and had an overall great experience. Staff was friendly and attentive but not annoying. Food was great- I ordered the lunch special pad garlic with spring rolls. Rolls were super crispy and flaky. The pork garlic dish came with a fried egg on top that was cooked perfectly. Meat was a little tough, but overall amazing for under 8 dollars in this area! The vibes are chill and they have a cool abstract mural on the main wall. Recommend
