Summary:
My go to spot in midtown east for great sushi. Always fresh, always attentive, always yummy. Since I work in the area, my friend and I have become regulars here when she's in the area and we are never disappointed.
Atmosphere:
Small, yet cozy space that is inviting. It's a bit dark but that adds to the coziness factor.
Food:
Standard sushi fare. The sushi is always very fresh. We love the special rolls, especially the Third Avenue Roll.
Service:
Super friendly.
So I was just here for their afternoon happy hour. Thankfully I made it there 10 minutes before 5pm when it officially ends on Sunday. The first thing I noticed was that only a few people were here but it was Labor Day weekend.
The happy hour menu included a good selection of beverages including wine, beer, and sake. The food items ranged from tuna roll to steamed or fried dumplings to spring rolls.
I had the hot sake, steamed pork dumplings, and Chilean sea bass spring rolls. All of it was delicious and less than $20 total! Very filling too. The service was good. This is a great neighborhood spot to grab cheap, filling, and tasty snacks in the afternoon.
The go to spot for inexpensive midtown east sushi. Good lunch deal, fresh sushi and quick service. What's not to like? The restaurant always seems full when I come with coworkers but they're usually pretty quick about finding us a table. Glad to be a regular.
Came here in a big group of 8 for a weekday lunch. The menu is diverse, ranging from Thai food to Japanese sushi.
We each ordered a different style of food but they all tasted so-so. I feel sushi was better than other food offered here. Two kinds of pan fried noodles were salty or too sour. The fried rice with shrimp and pineapple was too oily and heavy to me. The dragon roll tasted find but there was only a little eel wrapped in it. Given the $15 dragon roll price, we felt it was overly charged.
Won't come back anymore..
Finally got a chance try Hiroshi again after many years! The interior of place as changed a bit I believe but the food is still great. Came here with my friend Xue T. the other day for their lunch specials. Got the eel avocado, spicy tuna, and spicy crab!maki rolls. It also came with miso soup and salad … All for $13! Not bad for sushi lunch in Midtown Manhattan.
I'm satisfied with my visit. 🙂
I came here for lunch the other day with my co worker after we saw the line for Sons of Thunder (which is right down the street). We saw that the place was pretty crowded so I had pretty high expectations. The waiters were friendly and we were seated pretty quickly. They had a sushi lunch special (3 rolls for ~$15) so I ordered that, the spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, and the eel avocado. I must say, the rolls were very very mediocre. The yellowtail did not taste fresh at all and they used lots of crunch to mask the not so fresh flavor. The eel avocado was tasty but the eel to avocado ratio definitely was skewed towards the avocado by a lot. For over $15, I definitely expected more. I would not come here again, next time I'm just going to suck it up and wait on line for Sons of Thunder.
I've ordered from here a few times and I'm not that impressed. Found some fish bones in my salmon avocado roll. Not cool.
If you're on the east side and in the mood for some cheap and good sushi this is the place to go. I have fellow sushi lover friend that works close by so we are here frequently for lunch.
I have never had dinner here but I assume the food is just as good. I usually do one of the lunch specials (11 pieces of Sashimi) which comes with the standard Miso Soup and Salad.
The soup and the salad are always on point and the Sashimi is fresh and well sized.
I did notice some folks mentioned the fish may be small in the rolls, I can't really critique on the rolls because I mostly eat Sashimi. I did however try a piece of my friends spicy tuna roll and didn't notice anything wrong with the roll.
Overall this is an awesome lunch spot.
