My family wanted to dine in at a different restaurant the day before Mother's Day. Unfortunately the restaurant was so packed and the wait was forever that we decided to order takeout from here. It was the only restaurant in 8th avenue that won't take long to make the food.
We ordered 5 dishes in total.
We had the chicken with eggplant, oxtail with dry tofu skin, crispy duck, fried fish with tofu, and mix of shrimp, intestines, chicken, mushrooms, squid, tofu, vegetables.
The Chicken with Eggplant was quite delicious. I was expecting it to be a savory kind of dish, but it had more a sweet taste it.
The Oxtail with Tofu Skin was good dish too. The oxtail comes off the bone easily when you bite into it. I like the sauce. Great to put over rice.
The Crispy Duck was very juicy, succulent, and delicious. My family really like the duck and thought it was one of the better tasting ducks in 8th ave.
The Fried Fish with Tofu is usually one of my favorite dishes to eat, but I thought it was a bit too salty.
The Mix dish that has Shrimp, Intestines, Chicken, Mushrooms, Squid, Tofu, and Vegetables was decent. Not the greatest and yet not the worst either. I like the mix of different stuff, but need something else to heighten the dish up.
All in all, my family was very satisfied with the dinner. The two dishes my family really wants to order here again is the duck and the chicken with eggplant dishes. A decent rebound meal considering how our Mother's Day started.
I think this restaurant location may be cursed. Nobody seems to be able to stay here for very long. And if my latest experience at HK Tasty is any indication, I'd be surprised if they make it for another 6 months.
And here's why: -The seats are uncomfortable metal chairs with thin pads. -I saw a guy spraying Raid in the kitchen. -The portions are TINY. -Beef options like the oxtail and black pepper steak were all bone, with just the tiniest amount of meat hanging off.
It might be able to stay afloat based on how cheap some of the dishes are (cheapest is $5-6). This restaurant iteration also has a Chinese BBQ section (available to go), so maybe that's actually worth patronizing. But for lunch or dinner? Stop being lazy and walk a few blocks deeper into Brooklyn Chinatown for a real meal.
Worst place ever, very disappointed. Wasted $20 here. There was 3 other people eating here besides us. I ordered beef stew and carrots. It came out as beef fat/cartilage and soft radish. The mopo tofu had a rotten taste to it, we paid and left the food there after 10 minutes.

My rating is a 3.5 stars.
