  1. I used to come here a lot a few years ago and then I stopped coming here for a few years and decided to try it the other day. The place was packed and we actually got seated pretty fast. I order two sushi rolls and a few sushi pieces. I notice the prices are a little more than other sushi places I go to.

The sushi rolls tasted just like they do in the place I usually go to and there was nothing special to them. So I don't get why I am paying more. The sushi pieces were the same too.

The customer service is so bad here. No one comes to your table to check on you and see if you need anything. Also to get the check was a mission. We probably could have gotten up and walked out and no one would no. I wouldn't return here again.

  2. The food has really gone done in quality here.

    Sandwich is not freshly made.

The squid looks like its been boiled instead of grilled. Its coated with sauce. I feel like I ordered takeout from a cheap buffet.

The stir fry noodles were also subpar.

  3. We quite liked the food we ordered from here.  The Portugese Chicken over fried rice is delish. I also ordered 3 sushi rolls (2 eel avocado and 1 Alaskan) that were good too.  Best of all is the prices!   I paid less than $20 for our 2 meals and they were very large.

Good service is definitely a bit more rough to come by though.  This restaurant is very primely located on 86th St which means parking can be difficult to come by.

  4. Cheap mediocre chinese food. I alternate between getting the baked spaghetti with portuguese pork chop and the satay beef noodle soup (get this, its delicious). I wouldn't get the sushi. Their prices are a little more expensive and the quality is not as good.

Also, what is up with the tea? I asked for tea.. not boiled water. Asian people love their green tea. This is not green tea!

  5. HK Tea and Sushi serves delicious food that brings back the feels from Hong Kong plus affordable prices, large portion sizes, fast service and decent sushi. What's there not to love about this place?

  6. Ever since Ritz Cafe closed on 8th avenue, the only other HK cafe style place I can go to is HK Tea and Sushi. To give a bit of context, HK style food is quicker and smaller, and they make use of baking, whereas traditional Chinese is mostly stir-frying and steaming. This place burned down a few years ago and renovated – to be the exact same storefront. Rumor has it they did it to collect the insurance, but that's neither here nor there.

Onto the food now! I've been coming here with family and friends for the better part of 10 years now, since I was a pimply prepubescent teen. While the food is good and won't make a huge dent in your wallet, the sushi is sub-par, especially for Bensonhurst where there's a sushi restaurant on every corner. What you SHOULD get, though, are the baked dishes – my favourites are the Baked Oysters, the Baked Minced Beef with Rice, and the Baked Portuguese chop with Spaghetti – but only if you are into melted cheesy goodness.

Pro-Tip – they do take-out as well, but make sure you hit the minimum for CC to get those points! Cash is always an option as well.

  7. I know it's called HK Tea and Sushi, but I would not recommend getting sushi here. It's mediocre, just passing the okay threshold. This restaurant attracts mostly a young crowd but you will find a mix of different people eating as well. It's always busy during the weekends and they are open till late which is a plus. I usually come here for their baked cheese rice/spaghetti. Seriously the best options on the menu in my opinion. It's not the usual you would expect like lasagna or italian spaghetti. Not really sure what king of sauce they use… Don't worry about not getting enough protein because they stack it. The ratio of spaghetti to protein is unbalanced. I shared the chicken steak baked spaghetti with my boyfriend and we almost couldn't finish it. There were three large pieces of fried tender chicken. We also ordered a side of fries which the waiter forgot to place until we asked about it half way into our meal. The quality of the food is not that great but it's decent compared to their prices.

  8. Always, always greeted with horrible service lol it's no surprise. Their food is not bad for the price. I always come here for oysters and the Portuguese pork chop or chicken over rice or pasta. Their wings are good as well but they're small. I like their lamb, steak, and squid over rice. They have a lot of good food on the menu so you can easily ignore the bad service lol you'll be too busy eating and chatting with friends. I only come here with friends so I don't think it's too bad.
